    Thanks for this video. You saved me a lot work and inspired me to take my X320 apart. Almost all the bolts were rusted but I sprayed them with Blaster and followed the advice of another video about ratcheting the bolt back and forth gently. It worked on all but one on the seat rails. The rails are so rusted that they won’t move but I don’t adjust it anyway. I put 2 pry bars under the height adjuster and it popped right off. Mine looks just like yours under the body. I mainly wanted to get the gas tank off and clean it. I can’t see how much gas is left so I’m pleased about that. Now if I can remember how to put it back together. Thanks again and good luck with your X300

    Great video. I have exact same X300 from 2008. Think I'll give it a cleaning!

    Once again, thanks for more good information. I’ve been taking my x300 apart and cleaning it too. My experience with the seat slides is very similar to yours. The seat absolutely refused to move. When I removed the seat there was hardened dust powder caked all over, and in, the slides. The slides have four threaded rods that go through the platform with a washer and a nut containing an insert that prevents it from vibrating off. I was able to get the two front nuts off by getting under the tractor with an extension on a ratchet. The right rear I got off by going in from the side with an open end. Not too hard to do. The left rear was much harder because the gasoline tank has a different shape on the left, making it much harder to approach it with a wrench. Looking back I should have taken the platform off and then it would have been a piece of cake to get the four nuts w/ washers off. I’m going to take the platform off when I put them back on.
    Even off the slides were still hardly movable. I soaked them overnight in Simple Green and the next morning a hosing cleaned them right up. My question to you or any reader, should I lube the slides, or leave them dry and maybe keep them from getting stuck in the future?
    New question. When you say operator switch I assume you’re talking about the safety device that shuts the tractor down if the operator leaves the seat?

      I lubricated my slides with a conservative amount of white lithium grease. So far, so good on those. Yes, the switch I'm referring to is the seat switch that shuts everything down if you get off the tractor.

    Nice video to watch even though that's more than I'll bite off. Makes me thankful that I use the leafblower on my machine after every usage and wipe the machine down. I am betting I don't have that much buildup underneath.

    You went to a lot of trouble removing the mower deck height adjustment knob. For future reference it just pulls off from the top albeit it is tight.

      I'm in the middle of removing the entire cover to replace the fuel line from the gas tank to the fuel filter and the adjustment knob is the only item keeping me from doing it. According to this video it doesn't just pull off. There is a retainer pin/clip that has to removed first. Please advise on this. Thank you.

    • @FoggyTinkering
      @FoggyTinkering  Před 3 lety +3

      I initially thought there was a retainer, but there isn't. Mine was just pressed on very tightly. I used the pry bar to get it out eventually. Watch/listen to the video closely, and I mention it. It's easy to miss.

    I have an x300, been an awesome machine. Sadly , I know need an entire hood assembly for it and cannot find one used. John deer wants nearly 800 dollars for one. Not reasonable. Any leads on finding one.

      Unfortunately, they're tough to find. You'll have to keep browsing Ebay, FB Marketplace or Craigslist for a used one, or buy new.

    so did the hairpin hold the deck adjuster on or was it just prying it up get it off?

    • @FoggyTinkering
      @FoggyTinkering  Před 6 měsíci

      You just (carefully) pry it off. If you happen to break it, I think you can get a replacement from Deere.

    Hey this is great stuff. Like one of the commenters below, I too recently acquired a 2014 (600 Hours) John Deere x300. It had a 40 inch shovel on the front which I hope to sell because I will never use it. The linear actuator on the shovel does not work but the rest of the tractor is OK. Anyway I'm curious about that hose that's under the seat. I have/had a slow gasoline leak under the tank and I don't have that hose visible under the seat. Is it possible there is a connection between my not being able to see the hose and the sometimes leak? Anyway yesterday I got it running and I rode it around my yard. The leaking stopped. Any opinions why? If you or any of the folks who read this have any ideas on why the leaks stopped, I'd love to hear them. By the way I live in the Mojave Desert and my lawn is very sparse weeds and sand. My planned use of my x300 is to drag the lawn to make it look better. Foggy Tinkering, I really like your presentations, where are you?

    • @FoggyTinkering
      @FoggyTinkering  Před 3 lety

      Thanks for watching and commenting! I am not sure what your issue could be. Directly under the seat should be a harness for the operator switch (not a hose). Immediately under the platform should be both that harness and a single fuel hose that runs from the tank to the engine. If you don't see that hose, then it may be a different design (2008 vs 2014) and the hose is somewhere else and possibly leaking. I'll just say I'm located in the midwest.
