The top bearing is RS (rubber side) on both top and bottom because as the grease heats up it will be less viscous and those seals help keep it in place. The bottom bearing only has a seal on bottom. I just tore my Deere version apart and confirmed the same construction. Keep the seals and pack it with grease and the units will work fine. It may not be the exact same but it will last longer than a broken one and maybe not as long as a branded version.
Don't know if anyone else mentioned it but you need to have correct tire pressures before adjusting, especially in the rear. Just sayin' .....................
Can the mower deck and blade be on at the same time?
Are they both the same bearing
Where did you grab all the parts!?? Great video just got an rx75 for free.
I need to order led bulbs for my fence line mower with no deck Light bar might be best for cold weather and night time
That's all right I got different shape and sizes different types of rods Parts anything I need to make this work
Pretty sharp, my hole taillight fell off today won't snap on either!
Nice video. I need to do this same job on our JD 445. Engine compartment is a mess and dripping a little oil on garage floor. I always said I wouldn't tolerate vehicles that do this... Why would I tolerate a tractor doing the same? Anyway... How did you come out on this? Did you end up replacing the covers too or did the new gaskets hold? I'm following your lead and have just gaskets on order. Now... if we could do something about those side panels that crack when you look at them wrong... :-)
I hope the spindles on my 455 and my 245 are that easy....I have a X710 also but he has reality low hours....The 455 and 245 are rescue mowers that that were abandoned after they started having some problems...
Decals - place a layer of dish soap onto the surface, which allows one to slide the decal around into position. The dish soap will evaporate.
I don’t want to push snow I want to level my lawn same concept going to but this for sure
The pulley on my John Deere mower separated. I called the local dealer, it would cost $47, they didn't have one in stock, 7 to 10 days to get it. Amazon had one for $12. It is stamped made in China. It fits and works like new. I wonder if the replacement John Deere pulley would also be made in China? I support American made but needed it in a hurry and my local John Deere dealer never seems to have the parts I need. It is easy to change, so if it fails I may try to find a John made one.
You went to a lot of work to answer the question. I have never idled down my John Deere mower before shutting it off. I recently watched a video by John Deere advising that you should idle down before shutting off. I started to feel guilty for never idling down my mower, so I googled the question and found your video. Life is too short to waste it sitting on an idling mower when you don't need to. Thanks for the information.
So we're just looking and ordering ?
$33+ per wheel. I bought 4 yesterday over $141 with tax! Just for the wheels!
Thanks for sharing this. You made life just a little simpler..🤠
When bolting that back on any idea what the torque specification is? I’m working on my LX 255 now
nice and informative video. 2 Recommendations: consider your time and effort with chains, then price a set of HDAP tires. JD installs them on the larger machines by default. I have a set and have never needed chains, and they do excellent on the turn in the summer. The other recommendation, consider purchasing a nylon (or what ever it is) 2x4x(your width) bar and install that on the bottom of the blade where the "cutter bar" is installed. It will allow you to plow right on the asphalt/concrete surface without a single mark. Our HOA started to yell at me about my plowing in the local streets until I demonstrated I was doing a much better job with my little mower than the official plows and zero surface damage. The bars are about $25 for my 48" blade. Just use it until it starts to show wear (after 7 years so far no issue) and then flip it over and use the other side to extend the age.
Try $856.00 know
Just put sealed bearings in, and dont worry bout grease. Seen PLENTY of bad boy spindles with 500 hours and no problems.
😊
The belt tensioner trick was awesome. Thank you! I didn't see you mention getting your tires to the proper PSI before leveling the deck. I was do that as the first step. Sorry if I missed it in the video.
Fantastic video. Most useful and best video footage that I've seen. Only suggestion is when reinstalling the hair pins, you should have installed them with the head facing forward of the machine. That way when debris, like sticks, come underneath between the body and deck, the pins won't get pushed out backwards. The debris will hit the head of the pin, which will only force the pin back but not out of where it belongs. Thanks.
I think a better option is to clean the original JD bearings and if after cleaning inspection they are smooth with no roughness, wear or pitting then just reuse them. Since they are open bearings cleaning is super easy. I'm curious how many pumps of the grease gun are needed to get the grease into the actual bearings? (ie does that inner cavity require much grease before it can reach the bearings?) How many mowing hours would you estimate between spindle rebuilds?
How did you take that height adjuster round plastic out was very hard to see how, my one is also not coming out why they made it so difficult.
You got it out?
@@Ramon06 no, looks like there is a screw inside, the minus screw, the line is literally none, rhe screw driver slips out when unscrewing with the location being difficult to do anything.
@@NeymarjuniorAyeah I saw that screw to. Couldnt get my screwdriver on it aswell. But I dont have to get that thing of anymore. The problem with my mower is that probably 1 cilinder is blown out.
@@Ramon06 i was trying to clean my fuel tank, but i have abandon to clean it. I think john deere made it purposely, so we take our mowers to their dealer and they quoted me $1000 to clean the fuel tank. will try avoidbuying john deere next time. Thanks anyway.
@@NeymarjuniorA 1000$ to clean the fuel tank? Thats absurd.
there's a vid called "don't trust the experts grease your mower deck spindle bearings common sense maintenance" that seems to prove that the sealed bearings will be packed by greasing the zerk .
Super job you did 👏🏻👍🏻👌🏻
Nose down 1/8” cuts better
As you lower one side the other may rise half that much
Great video. Does the kit include the bolt or dust caps?
Amazing!
Where are you located? I’d be interested in buying
excellent instruction
Absolutely horrendous engineering not giving it 4 corner level adjustment. CHeap. I cant believe they made a deck that cant be leveled. I have this mower and it is impossible to level it
Good video. Where did you buy the engine shaft bearing 6205 ?
Not having 2 hydraulics swivel fittings is poor Engineering on part of JD. Half the price of JD. on that aftermarket hydraulic cylinder is definitely worth the gamble that'll it work out good. Thanks for making this video, I'll have the knowledge to do this on my 425 if it ever needs it.
Cheap is what you get for low price 😊😊 Most have just a tad of grease to fail sooner 😢😢 Only buy direct from Stens 😊
What is clocking a spindle? Can’t see what you are adjusting to level the blade.
Part number could help…nice job on rebuilding yours.
Looks great , and the decales look awsome too!😊
Will this linkage work on a x310
Fantastic video, great instruction, and tips! Thank you so much!!
Thanks for posting this. I couldn’t get my deck to stay up after adjusting the deck height to factory setting. Once I saw how the locking mechanism worked I figured out how to fix it by lowering the deck height all round. It’s much lower than the setting tool which comes with the mower but it now locks in the upper setting properly and the deck is level. You saved the day!
Having the same issue. Anyone know why this would happen?
Yoou literally are surprised a $40 chinese part is junk!
What happened I was commenting and the video ended
Change that pulley on top of the transmission. Made mine work like new
I’ve got 13 years on mine but you’ve topped me being this video is 4 years old. I’m dying to do this very same thing
Where does the spring go on the body
Thanks for the video, my deck rusted out even after I patch welded it o er the years. I bought a new one from Kohn Deere. It was the last one in their inventory. I painted the underside with truck bed liner to help prevent rust. That was three years ago. Now it keeps throwing the belt. I took into the JD dealer and spent $400 only to have it work for a couple of mowings and then start throwing g the belt again when ever I would engage it.😬Does anyone have any suggestions?
Yes, had same problem. Belt spring is undersized. I put heavier duty spring on and has not thrown a belt in 5 years.
