- One of my favorite items on the menu of my happy place, @joicafe, is Joi’s amazing caesar salad. I remember the first time I had it-what a REVELATION!! I was like, “whoa. I could actually eat this as a MEAL.” Prior to that time, the thought of eating a meal without rice, a sandwich, or at least a bowl of soup, was slightly cuckoo! Well, I’ve since eaten that caesar salad for MANY meals and was thus inspired to come up with my own, at home version and it was THE BOMB DOT COM (sorry, kids, for dragging that parlance out of the trash bin, but it is so appropriate). Recipe below and I’ll be adding it to the #tkvmealplanner!
.
1 3/4 cups cooked chickpeas, drained
1/2 tbsp soy sauce (or coconut aminos)
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp cayenne
1 to 2 tsps garlic powder
1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1 cup chopped romaine lettuce
1 cup ribboned lacinato kale
1/4 cup diced red onion
1/4 cup chopped celery
2 tbsp chopped walnuts
2 tbsp cashew cream (or hummus)
1 tbsp garlic confit (or 1 clove garlic)
1/2 tsp onion powder
1 tsp soy sauce
1 tsp plus 1 tbsp furikake
1 to 2 tbsps water
1 tsp grated vegan cheese
handful of croutons
.
Mix the chickpeas together with 1/2 tbsp soy sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, cayenne, and EVOO. Place in air fryer at 400°F for 15 minutes. In the meantime, add lettuce, kale, red onion, celery, and walnuts into a large bowl. Blend together cashew cream, garlic, more onion powder, more soy sauce, and 1 tsp furikake, together with a little water, for dressing. Add roasted chickpeas to salad bowl, followed by dressing, more furikake, vegan cheese, and croutons. - Jak na to + styl
I love how DESCRIPTIVE you are. Your voice is soothing your stories I feel. You are truly APPRECIATED ❤️❤️
Thank you so so much, Butterfly Angel!!
I agree. When the clip is over I'm like o wow that was to fast.
I really feel like the descriptiveness is her best quality as a creator. The voice is soothing, and can carry emotions well when applicable, but that’s true of many creators. The descriptions pull you into this rich detailed world even for something as simple as salad! It’s incredible.
I grew up hating salads, but as I got older and made my own it turned out better cause I figured out I just don't like certain salads.
Me too!!
same here !
Saaame
Agreed
Totally
I KNOW. Everybody hates salads until they learn what a good salad is
I totally agree, I get really sad when people say they hate salads, and I always just think "you just haven't had a good salad" and when I ask him to describe, they are describing some sad iceberg lettuce with some ranch, and it makes me sad. But I think I also might be cocky because my salads are amazing lol
Honestly, I eat iceberg letticue like watermelon. It's just sweet, wet and not much else. I could get through a bag of the stuff whilst watching a movie, but I would not recommend it as salad. It's like poor person watermelon for when your too lazy to cut up the cucumber and sprinkle sugar onto it, but with a more satisfying crunch.
Iceberg letticue is just best eaten as is, not as part of a salad.
@@bethanybrookes8479 I never thought to eat it that way, I'll have to give it a try
I love ranch but honestly it's good on like anything BUT salad
@@alim.9801 Oh 100%
Truly... Best SaLad evaHhhh!!!!
It's so good!!
not a vegan but can confirm, there's just something so satisfying about eating a good salad
Oh yes, the crunch is necessary!
You have a beautiful laugh. Everytime I hear you giggle or give a little chuckle it reminds me of how absolutely wonderful human beings are. We can get joy out of these life long hobbies and in those little moments when we find humor in what we're doing....it's one of my favorite things. You're one of my favorite people to watch and I love your stories, with the way you're so well spoken about your past and your parents and how you can still be learning to overcome your most difficult moments, appreciating them even after they were so difficult.
Didn't mean to get so deep on a post about salad lol, but sometimes that's just how things turn out. Thank you for what you do, truly
I grew up on hummous and seeing it used in different ways such as a salad dressing is certainly interesting.
I had a delicious salad the other day: greens, cabbage, walnuts, cranberries, red or purple grapes and vegan ranch. Sooooo good
OMG SOUNDS LIKE MY KINDA SALAD!
Looks amazing! My mother used to make this kind of salad for me when I was younger. We always had a blast making it together too.
That sounds so lovely.
i absolutely LOVE the Korean culture and food and I was always so jealous of it !!! Also your voice is so mesmerizing I love your podcast !
💕❤️❤️❤️
Yep. The salad you make with the things you like are the BEST salads!
Aunty Jo, you have the BEST laugh! It's a perfect blend of joy, confidence, and humility. That's for always being able to make me smile!
I love watching your vids, everything always looks sooo good :)
Thank you so much Kylie!!
I can't say enough how relatable your content is. Salad was NEVER a thing I ate or saw in anyone's home growing up. It was fancy, boring, restaurant food...or insufferable diet food. Lol. But yes, it needed layers. When you add those familiar flavors to your salad it makes allllll the difference.
i used to hate salads (as any 4 year old does), but my grandma made me love them. first of all, mom always has store-bought dressing (which is fair, i do that too, but it all kinda tastes the same), and she usually just had the lettuce, some corn and dressing. but my grandma makes her dressing herself (and omg it's the best dressing ever. this is actually my reminder to ask her about it one of these days) and she always added salted peanuts and small apple pieces to the salad with corn. i think i started liking it there and now i love even the most boring of salads.
I've been eating versions of salads since I was very young so the concept of a "bad salad" to me was something that didn't exist, finding out as an adult that loads of people don't like salad because they just don't understand how to make a good salad was mind-boggling
For some reason it brings me joy to see people enjoy the food they made themselves, its how proud they are the thought that, that could be the first time they have been proud of themselves in a long time or ever
I hate salads at like restaurants and places that have like minimal amount of things in them but when I make salads at home they are so feeling there's so much better than any solid ever had growing up
This looks so GOOD, ALL OF YOUR FOOD JUST LOOKS AMAZING AND YOUR STORYTELLING IS JUST GREAT! I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS SO MUCH
Thank you so much Alene!!! That makes me so happy!!
@@TheKoreanVegan you’re welcome! Thank you for being able to cheer me up on bad days!
I used to not eat salads. But salads actually go hard! I wish I ate em more often!!
Same. Never enjoyed salads, until I started making them for myself.
The carrots were always too big, so I'd cut them a bit thinner, I'd add fruit, and I love raw radish/cauliflower. I love cabbage and I love walnuts.
I make my homemade salad dressing because the ones we buy is either too sour or too sweet or bland and it's just the best. I love and crave a nice chilled salad on a hot sunny day.
Like I didn't know I was such a veggie girl until I started cooking. My family usually cooks a lot of non veg, but ever since I've started cooking, I feel in love with vegetarian food and managed to share my love with my family. If seasoned/cooked right any food would become delicious.
We aren't vegetarians but I definitely have helped changed our diet successfully into a more veggie friendly diet. Everyone feels tons better and lighter and they are all content with how things are.
I love this salad so much. I actually crave it and end up making it again and again. Yum! Thanks!
Your stories made me cry every time. I am really thankful finding your chanel, because I am in really weird stage of my life and your videos really help me to change my view of thinking and to try to change my relationship with food. So thank you so much for that.
Yaaaasss!!! Chewy, crunchy, sweet and sour. Salty and savory. All of the things in the salad!!
Thank you so much for posting this. I have never tried a salad like this but my goodness it looks good. 🤤🤤🤤 I need to try this ASAP lol. 😀😝😂😎
tried this recipie and absolute loved loved loved it!! chickpeas were absolutely amazing and the sauce is to die for. Thanks!
I loooove salads but you're so right it needs to have ALL the right elements to be great.
me too. I don't understand salad at first until I saw that you can put different ingredients and give different textures. So yeah, I love salads too
Discovered this same thing about soups yesterday. Made my own broth from scratch and the realization hit. Crappy soups from cans could never measure up.
Your voice is so soothing. Anytime I watch your videos, I get the same feeling you get when your drinking hot cocoa by a fireplace reading a book ❤
Coincidentally I just prepped a salad for work tomorrow. A vegetarian (not vegan though) Caesar salad. Home made salads just hit differently. I also never saw myself taking a salad to work but lately it starts growing on me. That’s the 3rd salad in 2 weeks that I take as main dish.
Discovering you can put fruit in a savoury salad was such a game changer for me. Strawberries, mangoes and pears all work fantastically
Not cocky to say that people don’t understand salad well enough to make it good!
i can relate as well. most western restaurant or party salads were raw bland veggies. with some sweet sauce/dressing. then at home i started making salads with some greens but onions, tomatoes, nuts, fresh herbs, etc. im now a fan of salads.
Salad snob! F*ckin love it!🥰🥰🥰
Although I love your story videos...I am loving these recipe related videos quite a lot...seeing you delight over a bowl of salad and why...and giving us more food tips!✌🏼
I know this is an older video but I so appreciate it. It’s so hard to talk to those around me about my struggle. they don’t understand it when I say I’m addicted to food. I’ve gained 60 pounds the last 3 years and if i keep on the way I have been, I’ll be another 40 pounds heavier by next year. I understand weightloss is basically eat less and move more but when you’re addicted to food it’s not that easy.
Working on my perspective now 😁
Not a vegan, but when I discovered Thai steak salad with all the mint leaves & spicy sweet sour flavored dressing in it, game changer! Even my husband asks me to make it now. And you can switch out the protein. Salmon is great.
I haven't used iceberg lettuce in so long, it's terrible. I love a mix of greens especially the crunchy, peppery, slightly bitter frisée.
Thanks for sharing this with us it looks delicious!!! Love love love listening to you talk about food I need my salad to have different notes to the tastes and crunches to it too. I appreciate you! Stay safe stay great!!!
I love that the longer I watch your videos and get tips on life AND food, we get to see more and more of your authentic and joyful personality come through. I just had that thought, when you were so excited about the salad, so earnestly. I love that so much 🤍🤍🤍
Amen, you are absolutely right❤
I love salads!!! Light, yet filling! Yum!! Can’t wait to try your recipe. Thank you for including details in your descriptions! ❤️
Eating a salad is like a bandwagon, once you get on. You’ll soon realize, you’ll never get off. For me, I have to eat salads regularly and when I do, my body becomes a custom to it. Then I start craving them and it’s almost as if I need to be eating salads!!!! Then it becomes my food of choice and it’s great. Salads are magical and I used to hate them as a kid. Give salads a chance, if you try a salad you don’t like, that just means you don’t like that salad. It doesn’t mean all salads are bad.
as a person who feels the same as you, your salad looks amazing! 💜 🥗🍅🥗🍅
Salads that we make to our own liking are the best
I didn’t like salads for the same reason. But I went to this really nice restaurant and they served salad before the main course, that was the only good salad I’ve ever had and it was amazing!
I really appreciate my mom cutting up lettuce herself and making us salads so we would like to eat them, I love how fresh a good one tastes. Also croutons!
That looks absolutely delicious! And I can totally relate. It was only when I started making my own salads and experimenting with recipes and what I could add to them that I realised how amazing salads can be.
I need to try this Recipe asap
I love salad so, so much. Always have. I was diagnosed with gastroparesis and I can’t really have fiber anymore so i’m in salad withdraw. Though I would suffer for a super good salad.
I like to make a nut sauce for salad with homemade sprouts and various veggies which has so much protein , is very filling and is a meal all by its self !!! ❤❤❤
Great salad 🤗 looks amazing
If you want some really amazing salad recipes, there’s a cookbook called “Community” and it is just AMAZING!!
yummm. and massaging the kale in the dressing before adding the others in is the cherry on top 🤌🏼💗
Salads are great!
Mediterranean yum
Omg..... this salad looks like the best salad ever. It has most of my favorite things in it too.
I’m really basic so my favorite salad is ceased with lemon and salt but hey basic tastes good
Yum!!
i make a salad with vegetables i like and flavours that don’t overwhelm me. is it boring? maybe
but can i enjoy it without having sensory overload? yea.
and that why i like them.
theres so many types of salads and really its a completely customisable meal that can take minimal effort
The fact that you just described salad the way that I do is just fantastic. I’ve always hated salad because it is just the most boring thing to exist, while my parents would eat Caesar salads all the time and love it. I’m definitely trying this recipe (along with the mile long list of things I need to try from your recipes lol) because it just looks that good! 😫🤌🏻
I just had “wilted greens” and it was so good! I was a pick kid and am only just getting over fear of foods so learning to make stuff myself helps it be less intimidating. Like if I know everything in it, it can’t scare me! Lol
Please share more salad recipes ❤
Love your calming voice and your video's.❤️❤️❤️ Lot's of love South Africa 🇿🇦
You’re making me hungry 😭💖
hahaha go eat!!
I 👍 agree with all of this & my salads, too are the very best 🥗
Roasted chickpeas is such a good snack
Well that looks delicious
It was amazing!!
I like making & eating my own salads also.
You inspired me, and enabled me to reuse a lot of my leftovers that I need to use.
That looks so good!!♥️♥️
It was delicious!
I recently learned of grated salad, I live in the south and cole slaw disgusts me, but without the saucy grossness? It’s so good!
I think the greens play a role as well I've been getting some of the organic girl green mix bins and the variety of flavors and textures in their protein and super green bins are great with a good dressing alone, but I'll make roasted nuts or croutons and add some tomatoes, radish, pickles of some sort, grated carrots and/or diakon, etc you get the picture. Salad especially here in the US is said in a way that it implies its just a Salad when people could be having a lot more fun with the concept of a Salad, just my thoughts.
Y’all better come over here and get you one of these
This looks so delicious!!
Layers of flavors ☺
LOOKS AMAZING
Yes you are right!
Salads are always best when you make them.
Good salads are so GOOD
Oooo… this looks so good. I’m gonna make it so my 12 year old son can try. He loves salad!
fully agree about salad!!!!
Totally agree with this.
My favorite salads are always the ones at the salad bar 😅 bc I make them myself lol
That looks so dang good!!
I love chickpeas in my salad, ove never thought about throwing them in a air fryer.
That’s looks so great!! I need to make this!❤️
Yay!! check out the description for the full recipe!
@@TheKoreanVegan Alright! ill tell you how it goes i guess!
THIS ZALAD LOOKS GOODT!!!!
I started making Emeril Lagasse's caesar salad recipe and got my salad hating husband to like that salad. A win. I love a good hardy and filling salad.
Looks so delicious yum 😋 😍
That looks SOOOOOOO GOOD
i love the way you make your vídeos, can't explain, but i love it so much, def will try out this recipe
Girl that looks yummy ❤
I remember when I was a kid and the salad on the side of lasagne and other dishes was a piece of lettuce and a slice of tomato. How times have changed.
I relate to this so much
Thank you... I have the same feeling
That looks really good
Dang this looks good!!! 😋
I wish you have the long version of this or at least the recipe.
Looks so good 👍
I'm not even vegan and I love a good salad. Crispy onions, croutons, good seasoning, different leaves, fruit and veg that provide different flavours and textures...
Tho, I did grow up with a mum who loves making good salads.
