I started my DIY car journey a long time ago when Maguire’s was the top tier in waxes and shampoos. Then about 10 years ago, Chemical Guys started their video training/marketing series on You Tube. I bought into what they were selling. A good foundational understanding of the difference between a compound and polish, the 2 bucket wash method with dirt traps, etc. How pad choice combined with compounds or polish made a difference, etc.
Then Pan came along with his chemists viewpoint and decades long pro detailer experience (along with Todd at Esoteric). Now, competing voices opened my awareness to better products. I learned about other top tier brands such as; Rupes, P&S, Car Pro, etc. The journey continues.
Thank you Pan. I respect your opinions, your approach and video story telling and teaching of skills. Keep up your great work! And, keep it tight!

Amen to this Brian! This is exactly my experience. Chemical Guys opened my world to what good detailing really is. They were a “gateway drug” for me. Still learning but honestly thankful for them, as without them I never would have started researching ceramic coatings or probably even found this channel. I don’t buy much from them anymore (I still like VRP and Silk Shine), but would happily buy the guys a drink as a thanks for opening up my approach, technique, and skill.

Amazon has a serious issue that needs to get fixed! If you scroll further enough into the reviews, you’ll find that lots of the reviews are mixed in with different products. Sellers have found a glitch to do this.

Agreed, high ratings don't mean much. I also see a lot of reviews from people who got the product for free, saying things like "I haven't tried it yet, but it's exactly what I've always wanted, five stars for sure".

As a long time fan of Pan the Organizer, the only product in this line up that I use is the Invisible Glass cleaner. All the other car detail products I use have come recommended by Pan. I’ve done some testing myself and have some favorites that I will continue to purchase across a variety of brands (TW, Griot’s, P&S, McKee’s 37, Meguiars). And a side note, I’m just a DIY weekend warrior and not a professional detailer.

Sometimes I find some good deals on Amazon, but I mainly stick with one company. I used to try a bunch of different ones, but once I found a company that offers nearly every product I need, I stuck with them. Some of the products you reviewed are good for the average detailer looking to clean their vehicles, but they're not for everyone. It's important to have people like Pan who test these products and let us know how they work. Great work Pan!

Starting the chat about consumer purchase preference is great... Seeing the Amazon TOP SELLERS list shows to me that the consumer is very much swayed by todays styled advertising on CZcams, Facebook etc etc .. Price / Value for money is a the major swayer for the average consumer... You Pan, definitely steer your watchers to the BEST performing products but all of us can't necessarily afford these products... Here in Australia a lot of the products you show are hard to find locally or if they are available, they have an insanely expensive price compared to the US$ pricing.... I'm finding buying an Amazon I'm able to access products that your showing at a more reasonable price.. Always enjoy your views and demonstrations .. Cheers

I think alot of the appeal for chemical guys is the price point for a decent product, especially for those who aren’t too serious about detailing, the more serious you get about detailing and what products go on your car the more willing you’d be to spend the 3-6$ extra on a very very good product, but majority of people will be more than happy with what chemical guys offer

I don’t mind CG Mr Pink. Good suds out of a foam cannon, decent/acceptable lubrication, OK scent. Works in a pinch if you got nothing else to use but not what I’m reaching for first. That goes to Adams Car Shampoo.
VRP is decent for vinyl tonneau covers for truck beds and similar materials. Works well for engine bays too if you dilute it at a 1:2. But again Hyper Dressing is a thing soooooo. I’ve used VRP as a tire dressing before and it just doesn’t last as long and it actually collects dust really quick. I’ve bit the bullet and shelled out money for Carpro Darkside and that stuff WORKS. It lasts ~1.5 months where I live (Eastern Nebraska) and I live on a dirt road. I’d rather use Perl over VRP but again if you’re out of other dressings of your choice VRP will work in a pinch. It works well for weathertech floor mats and rubber floor mats too.

I work at a Kia dealership and use their Super Soap (1 oz per 5 gal!), Super Wheel Cleaner, Super Citrus APC, LVP Conditioner (HIGHLY recommended!), 3D One Compound, 3D Speed AIO (crazy easy to use(, Poxy Wax, Waterless Wash (GREAT stuff), Non Silicone Tire Dressing (only 3D product I'm not a fan of)

I use the CG Waterless Wash only when I want a quick cleaning on my car when it's lightly dusty or when I'm doing headlight restoration. It does the job.
That's why CG is popular because they make products that "does the job" but of coarse as you mention too many stuff, they should just focus on a few things. And ppl who buys and use only their stuff thinks they're professional detailers. Not knocking CG cuz they have some good stuff but their is better quality products elsewhere.
As I mentioned I use some of their stuff so it's good when you don't want to have much of a guess work.

Very informative video, as usual, Pan, thanks for sharing! I use a couple of these products and have found with Chemical Guys Nonsense that a 1:4 ratio is good for heavy cleaning, and a 1:10 ratio for lighter tasks works pretty well (had bought a gallon of it a while back). Like you said, it's not the best, but it's still reasonably good. I've also used the Adams Iron Remover, and found it to be okay, but not spectacular; I was hoping for a bit better from an Adams product (will probably switch to CarPro based on your evaluation and recommendation). I haven’t tried the USATOOLS microfibers, but I did order a few sets from the Rag Company for the first time before doing the coating on my wife’s SUV. I was fairly new to detailing before (washed my car once a week but always with the standard stuff available at the auto parts store). Anyway, I’ve been shocked at how much nicer the Rag Company towels are than those I can get at Costco or the local store. They’ve made a customer for life in me.
As for Chemical Guys, I have a few bottles of their stuff I’m still using up. I really do like the VRP and Silk Shine products, from the way they apply to the smell. I’ve moved away from using most everything else.
I will say that in a pinch, their stuff works fairly well. I was detailing a car to sell it and ran out of APC. All the “good brands” were a week or two out to receive. I popped by Walmart and got the Chemical Guys stuff and it met the need just fine.

From my experience, Chemical Guys Total Interior can leave residue/streaks on shiny surfaces. Just takes extra work to fully buff off. Could be the protectant part of the product. On non-shiny surfaces it worked well enough. I didn't really enjoy using it, though. Finally finished my bottle and I'm now using P&S interior cleaner, which is just a cleaner. So far, so good.

I have used a couple of these products, but I've moved on to more effective products. I really understand the average person buying these products, because you can get them anywhere. If I ask an average person what they use on their cars, they usually give me the list you've compiled here. If I ask, have you tried Gyeon, Carpro, or P&S? They have never heard of it.
For a workhorse towel, I've been trying Cosco Kirkland towels. They're ok.

New to channel but have been detailing for a few decades-here’s my two cents. Invisible Glass is much better than windex and other houehold cleaners also have the reach tool, I barely wet the pad. I saw recent vids about Cerakote having issues; use Meguires wheel cleaner (diluted) then regular wash soap to clean wheels and tires. Also like Meg’s detail interior cleaner which does not leave any residue; finally like Meg’s wash with my HarbFreight cannon. Tires get just about any silicone based protectant which I apply in the sun-no wiping heat makes it shine well. Thanks again Pan for the reviews!!

Groits 3 in 1 wax lasts over 8 months on new car paint so I think that's the best easiest sprayable wax one can get. but I personally use Adam's Advanced ceramic spray coat or Can Coat evo for most of my customers cars unless they want a glass bottle coating. I use chem guys vrp diluted 3 to 1 for interior dressing works great. every mfg has 1 or 2 products that are good but the rest is useless so it's good to communicate and be part of communities like yours and a few others that test and show what really does work.

Loved the video. My wheel cleaner: P&S brake buster. Daki is used for tires, wheel wells and mud flaps (I drive a pick up truck) and rubber matts. Tire dressing: Optimum. This stuff is unbelievable. My soap is Adams Shampoo but I'm thinking of using something else. Believe it or not, I still have not found the good foam & soap because when I coat the truck with a sealant or a consumer grade ceramic coating, the water beading is not coming back after I've used a ph neutral wash. The truck is too dirty it seems and those shampoo leaving the truck dirty is the only explanation I could come up with to explain why I can't keep water beading. Carpets and upholstery are with rugged doctor, inside is chemical guys: non-sense followed by natural shine for the plastics and trims, maintenance is with inner clean, chemical guys leather cleaner for leather. I wash the windows with diluted dish soap first if they are very dirty, followed by Stoner Invisible Glass of course. exterior plastic trims go to VRP so far but I'm looking for something more durable. I like to use VRP on door rubbers seals and like to think it'll help them stay in good shape longer as I keep my pick up trucks for a very long time. Am I right? I use car pro trix (mix of iron x and tar x) for chemical decon. I use chemical guys clay lubber also. Oh and the sealants/ceramics I've used are Turtle Wax graphene flex wax, The last coat black ice and chemical guys hydro charge.

Great video Pan! I’ve learned a lot watching your channel and I appreciate all the info. A question for anyone here, say you finished washing your car, a couple days go by and some light dust has started to show up on the car, which of the 2 options do you think would be proficient to get rid of the light dust: waterless wash or quick detail spray?
    Thank you!

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  Před 6 měsíci

Neither. I always prefer just washing a car more regularly. But out of your options, I would pick something different if you don't want to wash it the traditional way. Use a rinseless wash method. Much safer compared to waterless, or using a quick detail spray. See my tutorial: czcams.com/video/p58Y5qRd3OU/video.htmlsi=AhrejMIsOwS6Bd2G

One thing that gets used to boost or “steal” that number one/best seller spot is the category of each product.
For example, the quick detailer you mentioned from Mcguiar’s, it’s in its own category of, “Waxes by Mcguiar’s”. Since it’s in such a *very* specific “category”, it can easily have the “Best Seller” title. Whereas if there’s a dozen of quick detailers categorized in “automotive” or “detailing”, they would be competing against each other and would be a better scale to see which is actually the best seller.
I’ve seen products in categories they don’t even belong in have the “best seller” title. I can’t bring one to mind at the moment, but I’ll give a little exaggerated example. It’s like seeing a body lotion categorized as a polishing/compound and because lotion is probably selling more units than any polish/compound, it can steal the “best seller” title from right under actual polishes/compounds. Which will also boost its views and clicks, which in turn will boost sales.
So the seller will mark their product in an entirely different category that it can easily win in, just to get the number one spot to boost their views. I would almost compare it to Google’s SEO. But instead of “optimizing”, they are tricking the algorithms.
If they were categorized appropriately, I think we might see some (not all) different results as to who are the “best sellers”.
Sorry for the long post, maybe a bit of a rant. 😅

Hey Pan great video, agree with you on most or all... I have used Leather Honey cleaner spray to clean the leather seats on my wife's 2022 Subaru Ascent, no harsh smells out of it, it did sorta ok, to remove some surface dirt from the leather. Would I recommend it as a leather cleaner I guess if you had some light stains or dirt. it didn't strip nor leave a greasy slippery surface. it did just ok. With the Chemical guys stuff like you said in their onset to the detailing world they had some good products, they're more driven to average consumer now a days rather than to the professional detailer, excellent as always, thanks for the great video and happy holidays, all the best.

Pan, I have two everyday drivers. A SUV and Ford 150 but I also have a new convertible sports car with PPF and ceramic that only comes out of the garage when the weather is good and roads are dry. Is there one foam and shampoo that I can use for all three cars? Don't care about price or smell.

This is the best shampoo you can use: bit.ly/49QY4lB
That's meant for ceramic coatings, PPF or non protected vehicles.
If you other cars have a regular wax or sealant, this would be the more general soap for all three vehicles: amzn.to/46Cuqh4

I’ve always been interested in keeping my vehicles clean but the last ten years diving deep in CZcams I’ve elevated my game and technique. Thanks to the content of Pan, Larry Kosilla, Matt Mormon, and Buff Daddy I’ve really learned how to do this correctly. The hardest part is curating my detail regimen with the advances in technology, the last 5 years things have exploded. I find myself giving away or throwing out gallons of chemicals every 6 months or so. It is hard to edit the line up from trusted brands. Ammo NYC, Kochime, P&S, and Adams have been trusted for years. How often should you curate your line up?

Chemicals are typically good for 1-2 years if kept in stable conditions and not frozen.

I had decent results with the turtle wax iron remover. It still stinks but not really bad. Pan did a review of it.

Ive been using leather honey conditioner for a couple years now. It performs very well in my opinion. Seems to do a great job at protecting the leather.

Hard to believe that TW seal & shine isn’t there. Affordable, easy to use & long lasting.

I agree, it's great value! The spray protection that is ranked just under the Cerakote is the Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions Ceramic Spray Coating, and that too is quite good for money (I get 8-9 months durability with 2 layers). But I prefer the Flex Wax in the TW range.
