      Well the schools and the government pay a lot of the costs for my kids in Pennsylvania. My disabled child especially. So honestly, it’s not as bad in some places as it could be. It’s a better place to raise disabled children in most places than 20 years ago.

    • @NashHinton
      @NashHinton Před rokem +13

      @cm-qt9ir Nope. Data shows birth rates were reduced during ww1. Demographic data shows the 1910s-1930s had lower birth rates. The silent generation was a smaller generation compared to GI generation and Baby Boomers. Yes, birth rates are lower now than during the 1930s, but there was a short period where birth rates decreased in the 1930s. They only increased right after WW2.

    There's something that I think a lot of people are missing here: our working culture doesn't support having children. When we have to work 8 hours a day, 5 days a week not including time off or weekends, there's simply not enough time to work around people's schedules to make lasting relationships and long-term family planning work PARTICULARLY when you may be punished for taking time off for that.
    We ought to move to more leisurely society in which we work less, and have more time to make things work. I don't believe its just an issue of throwing money at people and then telling them "now make babies".

    The US is a grinder, and they're only looking for new babies to grind up in the machine that is capitalism. They don't actually care about the well being of babies in society.
    There is little to no maternity or paternity leave and we're the only country that suffers from this, bank breaking healthcare costs, unaffordable housing, unhinged grocery costs, more 🔫 violence in public schools, our officials are so divided that nothing gets done, and there are little to no precautions to solve Global Warming.
    Like, who would want to bring a child up in this vile mess? Especially if our adult population can't even keep their own head's above water. Its just being responsible really to not want to bring a child into poverty while the elderly members of society hoard a majority stake of the wealth.
    Like, make things better for the middle class and we'll have kids. But you know the rich won't do it and would rather prefer a global collapse than give up even a bit of their wealth.

    The economy sucks & I’m not bringing up a child in it. Plain & simple, that is it. I make 80k a year & it would be even difficult for me.

    Not every parent is going to be a good parent and it can't damage the child and the child can become a social liability. The present world has many crisis that makes having children not a viable option. People who truly want children and not just beget children through wanton and unprotected one-night stand can have children and have multiple children if they want, but the economic, social, and political conditions of US and the world are not optimistic.

    People need to get a grip. The baby crisis is a *possible* economic crisis not some apocalyptic catastrophe. Yeah, the economy *might* take a hit in the future but people will adapt. Scare mongering isn't going to make people bang!

      It's already happened with both Japan and South Korea. In fact, the economy will NOT adapt because there are fewer people in an economy based on infinite growth in all sectors, this includes birth rates. You also ignore the amount of money required to tend to a large, non-working elderly population.
      For example, both Biden and Trump are old men whose brains are currently failing them. They can not operate in high-stress, high-attention environments. When you have more elderly people who are physically and more importantly mentally incapable of work, you have fewer able-fit people around to work on anything. Including the computers and robots meant to replace human labour in the future.
      This is why the replacement rate is such a crucial figure in any species.
      It is very idiotic to claim that "we can just adapt" or "this is just scaremongering" when you have an economy that's based on how many people are young, able-fit and ready to work in the first place.
