I got so super concerned when I started missing your videos wondering what is going on. I will be honest to you and say that I knew in my heart that something wrong must've happened. But let's forget about that and just focus on the fact that you made it through such terrible times. You're a great guy with a ton of strength in you and all this will fade and you'll recover. I am 100% sure about that. That being said, God bless you and us all and welcome back Matt. You're a power house sir. You engender respect and affection. I've noticed that the photographer friends you've shared space with are mostly the ones I hold in high esteem. You're comfortable with them, and they with you. I was talking with a friend today about grace through pain. I am excited to see what you do with this. This event obviously has a lot of power. I think that part of a major illness such as this comes anger, often despair. One of the things that works for me when that happens is mental health work and spiritual guidance. Part of your gift, I think will be your ability to know terrible things and the grace of getting through them. It's likely to massively increase your sense of compassion. That you will be surprised at the need to comfort others. You've likely considered how your photography skill, your gifts will be of more benefit to others. I wish you the blessings of health, family love, and professional progress.

Thanks for sharing! I had a tick borne illness for many years (Babesia), and it reeked havoc on my life. Last year, I made a full recovery, and I feel like a totally new person altogether. Can't thank my doctors (and God) enough! I've completely rebounded physically, and I'm stronger than ever before (even in my early 30s). I also want to thank you for doing this channel! It's definitely one of my favorite photography channels period! Best wishes...

I sometimes wonder whether the M.E. symptoms I've had over the last 17 years were a post-infectious Lyme disease via ticks..I'm glad to hear you're on the mend..My prayer is that you're back to clean&jerks above and beyond before very soon..and that your mum is fine soon, too.
I came across this by accidents on accidents - first of all a review of a Fuji camera which I only looked at because I was curious about whether it was a medium format, I'm a Canon user myself, then a reference to the nerves regenerating in your hand, and at first I thought this was just you making a joke about the camera being a brick, then I looked further and found this. So far, I don't know you, I don't know your work (yet), but I've subscribed because there was a great deal of humanity in what you said, and a lot I think I could learn from. I have absolutely no idea whether you are a good photographer (yet) but I do know that you are a good human being. This was a terrible thing to happen to you and your family, but it was hugely inspiring that people who hardly knew you rallied around, and that says a lot about humanity in general but also about you. I'm very glad you're still here and wish you well on your continued recovery, I'll be watching!
Just get better, and start creating again. Nothing we could ever give, could ever amount to what you've done for the community Matt. So happy to hear that you are starting to see light at the end of what must have been a very dark tunnel...

As a photographer who has shot for 20+ years.... and then had a trauma injury to my S1nerve bundle...(unable to walk for one month) among other things like trying to stay in business (farming out my shoots) and trying to heal... I commend you on your strength and heart ... I’ll watch the rest of the videos to catch up with your story along the way ... and am looking forward to your full recovery.... as I wait for surgery or full healing , I’m wanting to end up a new person as well ... this will shape the rest of your life and can all be used for good ! I liked it (though I may have forgotten to “like” it) and hopped over to your channel, thinking I would check out some other tech reviews. I notice that the content of your channel looked a bit different from the normal tech reviewer and was instead instead drawn to your Mary Ellen Mark video. This video came up in the sidebar, and I thought, “I bet this video is going to explain why I was drawn here.” Firstly, I’m glad to see that you are alive. I haven’t had the time to watch any other videos but it looks from the Q2 video that you are doing much better - good work! ...I am going through my own struggle and I really appreciate you sharing this. Especially touching is the recognition you have expressed in finding other ways to experience and truly live life in the face of your life changing. This is the most I’ve written in months, so I’m going to leave it there, with gratitude and good wishes.
Matt, glad to hear you are getting better. I broke my pinky at one point and decided not to go to the doctor and paid the price, I wasn't able to bend it at all. Even though that's way different and not severe, I know the feeling of not being able to do things you used to do, its frustrating!

As soon as you mentioned the fever I was like "Tick borne encephalitis!". But of course it's easier to guess when you know it's going to be something big. You've been through a lot, but you're gonna get better again. Thanks for sharing with us. All the best to you.
When I heard about your life threating illness I was shocked. You are young with a family. It seemed unfair. I've been following you for the last two years, very inspiring. Looking at the pool shot of you and your daughter brought me to tears, reminding me of sudden change. My husband had a shock. My father suffered health challenges after a car accident. I picked up a camera which helped me with the grief of loss. The photo reminded me, time is precious. Your daughter will be that age for a short time. I'm so glad you are alive to tell us your progress. You have a lot to give. Time is slowing you down to enjoy.

wishing you the best recovery from canada. My mom has neuropathy, CBD cannabis has really helped her, same with the oil and rub on balm. she said her pain is greatly reduced, and her mobility is much better!

Over the past 4 years, I have experienced major complications from diabetes that have made walking very difficult and have had a quadruple bypass. Family and friends become everything in life. You are so blessed to have children and other family in your daily life. You also have comparative youth and a long life left to recover. Fare well on this voyage.
So glad that you will make a full recovery Matt! I've been following your channel unofficially so I didn't know about your illness until this video (just subscribed now). I totally understand what it feels like to not be able to do things like you could before. I got diagnosed with epilepsy, the bad seizures sort, 5 years ago when I was 17 and it looks like it's here to stay. Every time I have a seizure, I struggle to do anything for a few weeks mentally or physically. Unfortunately, I can never get a 100% recovery so every time it happens, I'll get a little worse memory, a a little worse coordination and a little worse confused thought process. Don't know how long it will be until I'm confined to a wheelchair so I've rejected the notion of continuing with university and then sitting at an office all day for the rest of my life which would surely speed up my decline as my epilepsy is triggered by tiredness or stress. I've picked up a camera, now a film camera, to follow my passion of landscape photography to make the most of the time I have left and to extend it!
You are a very brave person, I wish you a full recovery because you are too young to get sidelined like this. Thank you for sharing it, that has reduced my pains.
Matt, you are truly inspirational on so many different levels. I am truly shocked at what you have been through but heartened that you have come back so strongly.

I totally understand what it feels like to not be able to do things like you could before. I got diagnosed with epilepsy, the bad seizures sort, 5 years ago when I was 17 and it looks like it's here to stay. Every time I have a seizure, I struggle to do anything for a few weeks mentally or physically. Unfortunately, I can never get a 100% recovery so every time it happens, I'll get a little worse memory, a a little worse coordination and a little worse confused thought process. Don't know how long it will be until I'm confined to a wheelchair so I've rejected the notion of continuing with university and then sitting at an office all day for the rest of my life which would surely speed up my decline as my epilepsy is triggered by tiredness or stress.
I've picked up a camera, now a film camera, to follow my passion of landscape photography to make the most of the time I have left and to extend it!
You are a very brave person, I wish you a full recovery because you are too young to get sidelined like this. Thank you for sharing it, that has reduced my pains.

Matt, you are truly inspirational on so many different levels. I am truly shocked at what you have been through but heartened that you have come back so strongly.
