I watched your video on installing the front axle and steering. I never done one before so I used advice for older than me Hot Rodders. The problem I was seeing was I look at other gasser builds and see they put the stationary spring mount in the rear instead of the front like I did. I got nervous about that part so when I asked 3 different guys they gave me the same answer. If the shackles are in the front you get bump steer and it doesn't handle good going down the road. Watching your video really makes me feel good about my car. I am 74 years old and the information I got were from guys in their mid 80's and they are still building cars. Thanks for your help. I'm Daniel R Parks from Garden City, Kansas.

I think your 55 is Nice, I like how you saved the stock column and set everything up. You always have things you wished you've Done Different that's just part of it all. I grew up with my Pop Drag Raceing and he Did from early 60s to early 70s when us 3 Boys came along he had to stop. Don't let Jack Asses bother you their just Jealous they can't build Cars or anything else

Really appreciate some of the particular specifics mentioned w/ your '55. Good reference for others. Kept paper article on your car from a few years back for my Gasser reference binder.

Everyone thinks a traditional gasser uses a tube axle when in reality the earliest ones used the factory coils but lifted up and in a couple seasons someone went to the truck axle. Then when they became mainstream, it went to tubes. I’m building a complete 💯 true gasser… gassers actually started in the early to mid 50s before the small blocks and big Chevys. It’s a very hazy period for them. Big in-line 6s, Pontiac and Buick engines were the most common power plants.

I have a 57 Chevy truck axle if anyone is interested in buying it.
I'm doing a little different straight axle set up. Im putting together a kit to where it's a bolt in application with no welding. Plus, you retain your frame horns and you can put it back to stock if you ever want to. Video coming soon to my channel.

I had a 4 door 55 but let it get away from me now I have a 1948 style master 4 door touring sedan a 327 but no 4 speed trans. The 2x4 extensions you used will work great for me. A friend has said 1949 truck and said I could have the straight axle guess I need to look at it and see if I can just graft his groin subframe to my frame to make it easy on myself. I have a 10 bolt 8.5" rear posi with3.42 gears I can start with know that will be too tall. I need to get the degas rule book and find someone that can help me with the rules. Think I have a pretty good handle on them now but know there will be questions. Segatakes me back to my teen years. I grew up on gasser racing. When they settled in on bracket racing I gave up on drag racing

@@donshotrodgarage1717 Hi Don, the engine in it is just mocked up, it’s a NOS magnesium block that was cast off of an aluminum winters ZL1 block, with winters heads, ZL1 water pump, winters intake, and real ZL1 carb. I have a real 68 date ZL1 cam for it when it gets assembled. Thanks for the view! -Lance
