Finally a docking video where there is wind current and a tight slip!!

Good technique. The verbal commands helped me understand what was going on at the helm. A split screen would have been a good visual to that effect as well.

Split screen would have been great.

Pro tip: "Go as slow as you want to hit the dock"
    Great video!

Yep, I learned it as "Only go as fast as you're willing to hit the dock". Also, NEUTRAL is a good speed !!

This helps so much for the powerboat cert

We need you up in the North East-would like to see any of your content with single outboard training…that would be outstanding.

Great vid. I find it helps to trim up so that all the reverse wash goes under the hull instead of piling up. About time somebody isn’t show “how easy it is” with zero wind, zero seas, & a joystick.

Those barnacles on the pilings make it necessary to come in mistake free.

Curious, is this to teach without the need of the joystick in this scenario?
I also have a joystick and would implement it in these conditions with wind and current as the main reasons, but you didn’t have him do that.

The joystick would be absolutely useless in conditions like these. It doesn’t always work to your advantage. High winds and heavy tide the joystick struggles time and time again. It has a mind of its own and you can’t control the approach as well. When conditions are like this the approach and technique are everything. All of our classes are designed to teach you how to operate your boat with every technique available to you. For us to teach someone how to operate their boat only using the joystick would be highly irresponsible. Once Were done with our clients training they usually prefer not to use the joystick.

you could also you know, turn the wheel lol. The only time ive ever had an easy time just docking with sticks is twin inboards. Otherwise steering plus throttle is easier.

I have owned a 16 Sundancer 310 250 IB and now a 23 Sundancer 320 with twin 350 OB. The joystick becomes useless at anything over 15 knots winds in most cases. Why the engines only rev to 850 RPM all back. Compound movement 650 for one engine maybe 50% for the other. Plus you have to wait 2 or 3 seconds for the engines to move from parallel to pigeon toe with a 15 degree rise. All back to compound to all back they go parallel to pigeon to. Tight docking high winds and currents it doesn’t work. Learn this method.

Engines towards dock? Kinda stupid, if front ropes comes loose first thing that takes damage is engines 😢
