How to operate a single engine inboard ski boat {No steering in reverse}
zhlédnutí 828Před měsícem
Single engine inboards can be one of the trickiest vessels to operate simply because you have no steering in reverse. This applies to small ski boats or big single engine trawlers. Traditionally these boats are standard rotation and will back to starboard (generally). It’s important to plan out all of your docking and close quarter situations with this in mind or else you can easily get yoursel...

Before you approach and head into a marina basin such as this one, stop yourself to analyze wind and tide. Find out from the Dockmaster ahead of time what your docking situation is so you can plan ahead based on those conditions. Is the wind and tide working together or opposing? Will those conditions push you toward the dock or away? How do I need to set my spring lines up? Those are a few con...

With twin Detroit Diesels and no bow thruster you better know how and when to manipulate the bow. Allot easier if you dock with wind in the nose of the boat. my opinion only.
Feckin smooth, I approve!
Smooth AF from where I’m sitting. Good stuff!! Great coach
Nice Job
Went right past my house. Nice.
If I were to send you a picture of my boat on the lift, will you be willing to suggest how the boat should be secured for a hurricane? If affirmative please let me know how I can get you the picture and my questions. Thank you for your time.
Hi! Great video, thank you! I’m going to be renting a Lagoon 46 next week and although I have some experience handling this boat, I find reversing into a spot between two other boats from a narrow channel quite daunting. Could you give me some pointers on this? For example: should I go into the channel backwards or forwards? How should I line up the boat before rotating into the spot, etc? Thanks for your help.
All depends on how tight the canal or fairway is. You need to evaluate that before you enter while prepping your lines and fenders ahead of time. You don’t have to have it completely lined up to the slip before backing in but it should be close enough to do a small rotation to square it up and slide it in at the last minute.
@@thecaptainscoach Thanks for your answer! The fairway sis quite tight with about 1.5 meters on each end if the boat is across the fairway. Would you go into the fairway forwards or backwards? Would you stop to do the turn in the middle of your slip? cheers!
It’s hard to say without seeing it but 3ft on either end should give you enough room to come down forwards and spin it
Amazing video even greater people. Great seeing y'all at the sandbar.
Talk to you soon
so STUPID you're this close!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This some rich people shit! Who ever said $ don't buy happiness has never been broke great rack on blonde
Nice video! Did you hire a guide on the fishing trip? Scout is a very nice boat. Seriously considered it before buying my Grady 456 Canyon.
Yeah this Bahamian who had a couple good numbers to check out. That Grady is a nice boat as well. Heavy and built
blue light so cool
Good job with the video!
That looked like an awesome trip!
Nice boat you have there. That was a great trip gonna check the rest of your channel out. I'll love to do that myself. But I only have a 23 foot boat. What do you do for a living? Beautiful boat, beautiful home. Was that a captain You hired of the fifth person on the boat to navigate for you. Just subscribe to your channel.
I enjoyed the video! Would have loved to have been along for the ride!

Nice trip! That's an awesome boat and looked like a fun crew!
Awesome recap of your trip! You are a great guide!
Looks like a great trip with a great captain! Safe boating, good weather, awesome company!
Nice 😮
I am currently looking at a Yamaha jet boat. Have owned 26 Sea ray Sundance, 22 Cobalt, 46 Owens, and a 27 sail boat, but never a jet boat. They look really fun.
how thick dock lines should you use?
On older skiboats, (1980's) the Mastercraft propeller turns one way, and on the Ski Nautique, the propeller turns in the other direction. I wonder if the new boat factories have all standardized turning in the same direction?
Some boats back in the day were reverse rotation for sure. Not common anymore unless it has twins.
Please show me how to check my Bayline Crusier air conditioner because it's not getting cool.
Why wasn’t he using the remote station?
168 videos. Practical advice. Well demonstrated. 🤙 I’m in. You should have many more subs.
Thank you for your instructional video. But my question is I have a windlass on my 22’ Center console, is it better to put the windlass in free fall mode or is holding down the button a better option. What do you recommend or advise? Thank you.
Great question. If it’s easy for you to go in free fall like a “pro fish” windlass I would do free fall. Some are trickier to get loose than others. Either way will get the job done.
Where are you located?
I don't usually see people struggle when it's wide open like that. It's when it's busy and you have to anchor very close to other boats. I can't tell you how many times I've almost gotten my anchor lines run over. When they leave and pull their stern anchor is when it tends to get even worse.
Looks like Buncees
Do you leave your jet boat in the water most of the time?
ive heard no more than 3-4 days in salt water? im sure captain justin can clarify more. this is whats keeping me from buying one. i really love that rear swim deck.
@@itr0863 Same -- I'm in a mixture of salt and fresh. I leave my current stern drive in the water for 4 months of the year. I'd love a Yamaha for my next boat, but concerned about leaving it in the water that long
I’ve got a 252SD and live in Cape Coral on a canal. I have mine on a loft behind my house. I would not leave it in the water for more than a few days at a time in Salt water. The pumps have zincs but I would not recommend leaving it in Salt water. Obviously if you’re going to use it all week, leave it in but once you’re done using it, give it a really good flush and rinse and get it out of the water. Treat your boat good it will treat you good.
@@gregbergstrom4094 thanks for the reply greg! Very helpful

nice job.
I have an AR250 and had a kid on a jetski not paying attention run right in front of me. I threw it in reverse while traveling around 30mph and the boat came to a stop so fast it almost dipped the whole bow under water. Also, as far as slow speed maneuverability goes, use your engines while steering. I loved my boat when we bought it but hated it at low speeds. I learned how to use the twin engines to maneuver it instead of trying to just steer it like a I/o and now wouldn’t trade it for anything. I can parallel park at the dock and I always back into my slips. The best maneuvering boat I’ve ever owned around the dock now.
No wake mode is awesome for docking and retrieving your boat at the ramp.
Thanks for the info, just got my 2024 252ES and love it, only problem is the grass, we launch out to the Anclote River and the grass is terrible, we try to avoid it as much as possible, any suggestions, tired of pulling the plugs and cleaning out gobs of grass.
Those barnacles on the pilings make it necessary to come in mistake free.
It’s too bad I didn’t install, sea swivel ! Would have been able to use hatch!!
