I really like that line from Ardyn - it works on a bunch of levels. First, he’s so tired of being considered the villain of this story - hell, when he started all this, he was literally absorbing demons to prevent people from being hurt. Second, he’s here looking for Somnus, and is getting irritated with the little backstabber’s failure to face him. Third, he’s wondering if there actually is anyone who can kill him.
Older noctis understood Ardyn more than anyone that the 2 of them are just pawns for the gods.

OKAY! Since dev's won't get things straight, I'm just going to assume the reason Regis doesn't recognize or know Ardyn's true form is because....the whole time he was invading Insomnia in the DLC, he was in his officer form but, for gameplay purposes we play in Ardyn form...thus Regis not recognizing him in Kingsglaive...still salty Regis was put to sleep by Ardyn..only way it makes sense.
Incorrect. I'm pretty sure that Regis sees Ardyn 100%, since he calls out his cursed name Adagium. I think the reason why he doesn't recognize him is because of Bahamut. At the end when you finished fighting Somnus, Bahamut stops Ardyn from killing Regis and Ardyn is sent to the mystical realm where Bahamut resides.
Now going to FFXV's main story, notice how everything seems completely normal. They didn't bother warning Noctis about Adagium, Noctis doesn't even recognize Adagium, and Regis who fought Ardyn doesn't even recognize him. This is because I'm sure that Bahamut basically reversed time and stopped this event from ever happening. Because if this event had happened, Regis would've tried have been much more careful, especially since if Noctis was going out on his own journey being very inexperienced.
But that's what I just think. I'm pretty sure Regis says Ardyn, and so does Somnus as well.
@@noshuneclipse9475 Except no one with the exception of Somnus knew Ardyn's features is since he erased his brother's identity from their history. This is the first time Regis fought Ardyn while using his shapeshifting abilities and from his perspective, he's fighting a Lucian guard.
Tabata, the director over FFXV, did confirm Regis did not know but in a Japanese interview.
Thank you for sharing, I come back to watch this fight at times. I find that puzzling that Ardyn projects his hatred toward Regis and Noctis when they two were victims of fate and Somnus betrayal. To add, did Regis ever learn about Ardyn's life before he died, his connection to Somnus and that he disguised himself as the Lucian guard Ardyn cruelly murdered?
Pretty sure that Somnus erased any evidence of Ardyn's existence after he usurped his throne.
The entire reason he's called Adagium is because Somnus erased Ardyn from history, and only kept his record as a monster.
He missed his opportunity for...Regis-ide

Ardyn is one of the coolest FF Villains of all time. The only thing I don’t like about him are his style of clothing.
Since Advent Children, Square Enix has been trying to replicate it’s that movie’s right scenes in its games, hence all the action games like Dissidia, Type-0, KH, Versus/XV and of course VII Remake.
I think the only time they came close was KH2’s Data Org battles, but something about this battle made me feel like they came really damn close here too. This battle may be a little lacklustre but something about it just felt really epic and blood-pumping. Jumping around on lampposts, calling in tornadoes, real time summons, magical barriers and sword clashes just made this all a bit more exhilarating. XV, you may not be the best action game but you’re certainly putting Square on the right path.....

Epic fight, Regis a noble king holding like a lion for his people, probably don't know about Ardyn's true story. Ardyn claming revenge and justice while feeling bad inside. What an amazing story and drama, really epic, feels like destiny and universe are shaking for it. P.D: I will pay the double price of the dlc with eyes closed if this fight have as OST "Light in the black" of Rainbow, other masterpiece.

He is basically an even more perfect Golbez as a character since he’s an anti-hero more than being a villain. Ardyn could easily be a protagonist of a FFXV-2 with the revived-demon Luna (as Dawn of the future the novel, and the canceled DLC show)
Some people may say differently: Like say Sephiroth or Kefka. Tho I would like to see him in something like KH4; I’d love it if he was a secret boss!

In the now scrapped Episode Noctis DLC that was suppose to release after this one, there was gonna be a scene where Noctis is on the steps of the palace fighting guards just like in the Versus XIII trailer.
Many of those trailers were just cool moments that weren't even connected to a main story so my guess is that they planned on restoring some of those scenes into XV somehow.

Yeah... Astrals are so prominent in the lore, but their practical value is nothing more than an occasional tide-turner and impressive tech-demo. Having actual command of them would make way more sense.

Yeah, the biggest issue with the Astrals is that they are reliant on RNG. They always show up at the wrong times.
This was a testing ground for ffvii remake and it was met with positive results, this is why the used the same approach in the next ff game.

Why Regis looks like an Asian guy in his youth but looks British when he's old. Same with Noctis, he looks like Sasuke in his youth and resembles Keanu Reeves at the end.

This story has a lot in common with other ones that run with the idea that "The Sons must pay for the sins of their fathers/Forebears".
Maybe it is strewth that Regis has no red in his ledger, but that matters little to Ardyn who longs for some much needed overdue closure to a cruel existence; His real grief does not lie with either Regis, or the one to come after him, but with the man who sired the bloodline that produced them.
Somnus at this point is technically dead, and nobody gets much of a kick out of beating up a corpse. But pleasure of a twisted kind can be derived from bringing to ruin their next of kin. And besides all that, Ardyn does not kill Regis anyway since Regis needs to be alive for the Old Wall to manifest... and by extension, allow for Ardyn to get in a few popshots on his younger brother.
As for me, the real kicker is that everyone in this game is a pawn of fate, or rather a pawn of the person and deity who enforces that idea. Said Deity, Bahamut, will never become a gameplay boss to fight and defeat, because the DLCs that WOULD have come after this episode were cancelled and the person in charge voluntarily quit.
..... STILL planning on buying the Dawn of The Future novel, though.
@@1aundulxaldin I would describe the Astrals and the Lucis Bloodline to be Choatic good. Doing bad things For the greater good (bahamut and Noctis are my favorite characters despite many dislike them lol). I understand Ardyn pain and angry. The Story has been set in stone and the Astrals goal was destroy the Starscourge no matter the cost. I for one like this game. Theme is about Honor and Sacrifice which also sit well in the end. Probably in the distance Future we might get a remake of this game bases on book they create or they might create a new one with new greater Villians. Not the Astrals or Ardyn.

I assume that Eos may not be a Planet but a Sleeping Deity and the Astrals were created to protect Eos not the Habitants. Eos is Goddess of Dawn in Greek Myth. I mean i could be wrong. The Dawn of the Future may extend it's stories and Dig Deeper in the Origins of the Eos and the Astrals. Hopefully in the Future if they Decided to do a Remake. But i would call it Rebirth instead not Remake for FF15 but that's only me🤣🤣🤣

Ardyn, considering he lived a life of solitude, would have gladly accepted himself as being tainted and chilled alongside somnus and none of this would have happened. He was as much a good guy as he is bad. he only became bad because of them doing him dirty.

I haven't played this DLC in a while and I just watched Final Fantasy 15 Kingsglaive which takes place after this. How did Regis forget that he fought Ardyn again? Ardyn came into Regis throne room in the film and talked to him.

Ardyn is centuries old. He's had PLENTY of time to master his powers more than any other king. So his fighting style should be the most refined. Ardyn has had these powers for centuries. Noctis has had them only for 18 years (his age).

Gilgamesh refuses to use his GoB correctly (it's the writers' fault and their laziness).
Gilgamesh has infinite ways to use GoB but Nasu or takeuchi are lousy writing fights tactically. Narita at least knows how to use Gilgamesh better.

He did. However, he kept it to himself in the movie. He knew what Ardyn was, which is why he didn't bother having him restrained in the throne room. Everyone would've been slaughtered if Regis tried anything. So instead he kept his composure and pretended he didn't know (for every one else's sake)

@@irocklalot He attacked the city disguised as an Insomnian soldier who they were unable to identify. Regis was the only one who actually saw his real face other than Somnus and Bahamut. To everyone else the attack is still a mystery.
It's nebulous I'd say. He either disguised himself as a soldier and it the camera panning round was a stylised way of revealing it was really him so we as a player weren't controlling a non descript guard. Or Regis did know and decided better than trying anything. In his prime he and his entire city were comfortably thrashed by ardyn. This was arguably Insomnia at it's height of power, certainly in Regis' lifetime. So in his old age, towards the end of a losing war he wasn't about to antagonise a guy who comprehensively spanked his entire town. Remember after this he sends noctis away. Could likely be down to him fearing another incident as depicted in the dlc.
So wait wait you're telling me that king bro cannot defeat ardyn while regular bro ignis can beat him. WHAAAAT
Ignis used the full power of the ring -- which ultimately requires a sacrifice of one's life to wield. But even if Ignis could use the full power, he couldn't permanently defeat Ardyn (which is why Ardyn eventually returns after being defeated by Ignis).
Regis clearly wasn't using the Ring's full power as 1) He wasn't the prophecised Chosen King 2) Doing so would mean he has to sacrifice his life (which would result in a paradox because Noctis wouldn't be born) and 3) Regis doesn't have the Crystal's Power.
But regis is part of the royal line they could have at least shown that in the game that ardyn struggled to defeat regis. While in episode ignis it was shown that ardyn is partly defeated. Ignis was just a regular dude yet the king cant do that hmmmm

@@miguelruiz3078 Incorrect. Those of the Lucian bloodline can merely access the power of the ring at a greatly reduced cost. There is a reason that every King of Lucis has been an old man before they reached 40 years of age.
However, it is also worth noting that no King of Lucis has ever been shown to use the Ring like Ignis did. Whether that's because the Armiger makes that function redundant, or because the Lucii don't allow their descendants to access it, is anyone's guess.

The thing is: in Japan. Someone reacting with Emotions is seen as weak. While someone keeping a calm tone despite all situation is seen as brave and great.
That is the EXACT same problem that was encountered for Metroid Other M and "Robo-Samus". It's a difference in culture.
I think it is also Regis' personality. He very rarely looses his cool, and only around people he trusts (I think it was even mentioned in Kingsglaive).

Rion Steiner because during this moment Ardyn is still disguise as a royal guard. At least that’s what I think. During the course of the whole dlc, everyone in the city saw him as a royal guard, so Regis never saw how he really looked like.

Considering Ardyn wiped the floor with him, all of his guards, and even a building sized version of Somnus I assume he recognized him but just didn't say anything to avoid provoking him. He probably wanted to resolve the matter as peacefully as possible without starting a fight since Ardyn is literally unbeatable for anyone other than Noctis.
@@ozairchishti1264 Exactly as you put it, he wanted to avoid an all out bloodbath that could have ended the game early for us. If Noctis was still in the city, Ardyn probably would have hunted down noctis and kill him right then and there. Because as we've seen during the ending of the episode, its shown that Ardyn doesn't care anymore about fulfilling Bahamuts prophecy. (Not like anyone had a choice)

On my way to work this morning, I had a series of thoughts about this whole game in general, so work with me here.
I heard the in the original script, Noctis had the power to speak to the dead because of his and Luna's vaguely defined connection to Etro, Goddess of the Dead who sleeps, which ran in line with Noct's city being called, "Insomnia" and Noct's name meaning "Night".
That was scraped naturally because the dev team had Hibata leading everything. What are we left with? A lame game? Not really. The game seen here, now that we have this DLC episode, brings a whole new kind of context to light.
So, the key figures in this story are now Ardyn and Noctis, the former being someone who had his right to the throne taken away, and the latter being someone who inherited the throne only because of his bloodline from Somnus. Both shackled by fate to meet a terrible end, powerless to really affect the outcome that ends in both of their deaths. Bahamut, as showcased by that Dawn of the Future novel, was the real villain, writing the script of this drama for everything to fall into place so that peace could be achieved, however this results in two kingdoms falling as a result, so really, this makes the end result gained by some twisted means seem kind of pointless, as a peaceful calm is achieved through the final sacrifice of the central two characters.
So poor Noctis. Goes on a quest to find the 12 weapons that would give him the power to save a Kingdom that gets destroyed when he leaves it, turning the end result of his entire quest into a Pyrrhic victory of salvaging victory of any kind in the face of everything gone, and his friends and allies destroyed or ruined, by an enemy that had everything taken away from him. Bravely fighting against fate, but never quite overcoming it.
The takeaway from all this is not necessarily a negative one: if the intent follows the misfired bullet, then this actually could work as an idea. Even when the cards are stacked against you, you do everything in your power to defy your fate. Even when you cannot, you go down fighting, which is more noble and incredible than whatever the original idea Nomura had been gunning for when he started.
Plus, this kind of feels like what happened with the game in general. A weird metaphor. It struggled to become the kind of the game that everyone could enjoy, but it became something else entirely. While it is sad that the DLCs got canned, the game can still be enjoyed keeping the above in mind. While not necessarily something that the game itself would have enjoyed becoming due to the forces and the Company guiding its' development, but it became a game that still could be enjoyed all the same.
And the sad truth of the matter the gods could have prevented if not eradicated the star scourge when it first began but choose not too.
Instead the felt they were above the mess they were responsible for. Since the war with the infernion had led to the diseases arrival on the world. And through the gods there emissary the Oracle could cure it one person at a time, but I'm certain the gods could have been able to cure way more than that at one time.
At the end of the day they could have stopped it all but choose not to. And the real cherry on top was bahamuts true intention.
Elimante competition. A mortal king who's powers can grow beyond there's? A Deamon who found a way to increase the power of the scourge to infect gods, while imparting knowledge on some to create god killing machines?
That is his true motive, control over the masses.
bahamuts rigged the game, ethier followed your roles he set out for you, the world is saved and you both die Or the world ends. While if you where arydn you could win instead, killing the world and the gods eventually and have your revenge, while becoming the last sentient being, and a immortal one at that.
There was no winner or loser because the ones who won weren't even playing the game

Because Ardyn was using an illusion to disguise himself as an officer of the Crownsguard. For gameplay purposes we see Ardyn as... well, as Ardyn, but everyone else is just seeing a random Crownsguard running around with glowing red floating swords.
