New Updated Version of The Akaso Brave 7 | Is the Internal Audio Fixed?

  • The issue with the original Akaso Brave 7 was with the internal audio. The internal audio of the Akaso Brave 7 was so quiet that it was basically not there. There was nothing in post that you could do to make the audio even close to bearable. So Akaso has re-released the Akaso Brave 7 with some fixes and hopefully, this new version of the Brave 7 is better. SO in today's video we are going to again take a very quick look at what comes with the Akaso Brave 7 action camera, but will spend the majority of the video and time checking to see how the audio from the internal mics are performing. Plus you may be surprised ( I know that we were ) at the improvement (at least we think it looks better) of the image stabilization.
Let us know what you think of the new updated version of the Akaso Brave 7 action camera.

So not a perfect fix, but definitely usable as of now. With some adjustments in post, you should be able to get this audio very presentable. Plus is it just me, or does the camera's stabilization look better?

Okay: After owning the Akaso Brave 7 for about a week I am ready to follow-up on my last comment. For those that are interested in buying a Brave 7 model, I’d say go ahead, buy it. I had some growing pains with the camera, but then the technical people were telling me a LOAD of misinformation. One such piece of info was the Akaso would not work properly with Apple products… (WRONG..IT WORKS GREAT). I have a MacBook Air and it does great with the 4K/30 setting. The Akaso Brave 7 internal mic is “FIXED”. Here is where I believe people (me) are having issues. Almost any computer will play 1080P/60. I tried it on an old Dell running Windows 7 and it cruised right through it, same with an old Mac Book Pro early 2009 running High Sierra SSD AND 8GB RAM. The problems come in when we as equipment users “up” our peripherals and expect it to play on older tech….that…… and having a customer service person state Akaso will not run on Apple products……and here I am trying to to play 4K/30 on my old 2009 Mac Book Pro. I admit, I was the problem not the Camera. Akaso does need to up their game in the technical department.
Here is a tip.. keep your hands away from the mic..on top of the camera. If you brush your finger over it (not using a hand held stick) it will sound like static.
Another thing NOT IN THE MANUAL. You do not need “Akaso Go” to download and you don’t need to remove the micro SD card either. If you’re interested in downloading videos straight to your Mac Book here is what to do. Get a known good “premium” USB C cable… some cables will not work so make sure is isn’t just a spare charge cable you’re using. Okay….with the Akaso Brave Camera OFF Plug it into the Charge port of the camera. Plug the other end into your computer. Wait a second or two, if the camera doesn’t turn on, press the power button. The back LCD screen should have 3 functions. Select USB STORAGE by tapping it on the screen. A “NO-NAME drive will appear on your computer screen. Open the no name drive by clicking on it. Any videos you have in your camera will be visible on your computer screen for you to click and drag to your video folder….
EDIT EDIT EDIT: Today is August 11 2021. A word to those that do not like SPAM…. It has been my experience that someone at AKASO took upon themself or themselves to send me daily (sometimes twice daily) SPAM. They called it my daily bargain or something like that. They sent me discount coupon codes that when I tried to use them they were denied. Some of the coupons were expired and when they figured that out, they sent me an endless stream of them, all denied because they said the item I ordered was already discounted….like everything else available for sale. So, it was this sort of thing, sending useless emails and coupon codes and questionnaires on their performance as a customer service. Even when I emailed them to STOP, they always responded saying they were sending my response to management and then they would send another email asking me to rate their service. In reality, it was probably a SPAM answer bot that was following a program. Normally a spam website will have an unsubscribe link at the bottom but not Akaso. I had to call customer service to have them stop. We’ll see how it goes. Yesterday was the first day with no Akaso spam.

Hi, I am considering the 7 and would like to know if the external akaso mic can be plugged in while it is in the naked case/frame. does it perform well if fixed on a motorbike in terms of the vibration supression of the EIS? Does the recording still seem choppy if using the EIS and performing panning movement (left to right to left). I saw that oddity in another reviewer's video and asked but never got any answer. hopefully this will. thanks

This is January 2024 and I just unboxed the Brave 7 yesterday. So glad you did updated vid as I was thinking after your first version that I had made a terrible mistake. You see, I bought the camera with an additional purchase of a remote controlled pan and tilt apparatus for use in a "circle jam" we have once a month. We like to record and share (mostly to see how we did) with people that missed the gig. I can't hold a camera while fiddling so this should be great now that the mic works. I will compare internal to external in our terrible acoustics room with 8 to 15 musicians all trying to follow along with whomever has the lead at the moment. Your thoroughness is appreciated.

I've just had a replacement Brave 7 sent to me after my first developed a leak after use in water. They have an updated remote (still not USB C) and the doors on the camera have been reconfigured to make them easier to open. Definitely an improved package ad good to see updates are still being made even after the release of the Brave 8.

Late to the video but I just bought the Brave 7. Afterwards I saw your video on it's horrible internal mic and thought that I might have messed up but then saw that I did purchase the updated version. Other links on videos about this version took me to the Amazon listing that I purchased although your link for the U.S. didn't bring up a specific Brave 7 but did bring up the Amazon results page that shows all of the Brave 7 models. I'll have both the Brave 7 and Ek7000 when the new cam arrives. For the price point I have really enjoyed the Ek7000!

I'm looking to purchase the akaso brave 7 (version 2). And have some questions.
    1. Do you know of a head mount strap for it? I see ones for the brave 7 LE but apparently those don't work for the normal 7 (no idea why). I absolutely cannot find anyone selling one that works with the brave 7... makes no sense!
    2. Does it have Bluetooth and if so, would that allow me to be able to mount the brave 7 say on my head mount strap (if I can locate one) and connect the brave 7 to bluetooth to my cellphone and be able to see LIVE video of exactly what the camera is being able to see?
I'd want that so when on my head that I can ensure it's capturing what I am wanting it to capture.
    Thanks very much

Thanks for the update, great video. Just one question: Regarding the waterproof debth, on the Akaso website it mentions that it's waterproof to 5m in some places and 10m in other places, do you know which is right? Also, can you get a waterproof case for this? I freedive to around 20m so need a case that can go to at least 20m or a bit more to be safe. Would this be your pick for a cam for diving or any other suggestions? Thanks again.

The thing I noticed is that some unboxing videos this camera comes with a waterproof case and some come with the naked case.. But when I ordered mine there wasn't a option for either.. Maybe the older version came with a waterproof case? And this newer one is just the naked style case?

The sound works with the internal mic even while playing back on the camera. Does this camera (the Brave 7, not the 7 LE) support an external microphone? And if so how is the audio quality? I plan to use this camera to record my motorcycle trips with the external microphone mounted inside my motorcycle helmet. To me, audio quality is equally as important as video quality. It doesn't matter to me how good video is. If the audio sucks, then that's a deal breaker for me.

If it hasn't been mentioned, the recorded sound on the updated Brave 7 is close to my Galaxy S9, which is very good. All I did was turn off the wind noise reduction. It sounds bad coming out of the Akaso speaker, but out of my S9 it is very close. I deal with noise reduction in post I guess.

I didnt read all comments but i would have liked you to test it with wind and if bad would the external microphone fix this and will it be a standard akaso mic or specific to this model. And isnt there an akaso camera that has good audio and good image stabilizer without tbe external dust or waterproof cover?

    • @gregtoope
      @gregtoope  Před 2 lety +1

There is no such thing as a camera that can record good audio with a waterproof cover on it. To make it waterproof means that it has to be sealed, which means that sound cant enter either. So when you have a case on any action cam the sound is next to nothing. And you cant really test how a camera sounds with an external mic as it depends on the wind as well as where the mic is placed and how it gets hit by the wind.

When i tried to dip it under atmost 10 inches underwater for like 10 seconds or less the water gets inside the lens and the screen beside it. Then the main screen started to blink many times. AHA!! I figured out why the mic didn’t record before. The only mic on the camera is on the top and when it’s in its housing, it covered the mic. The upgraded version just has a hole at the top over the mic. Which, I noticed, is why the sound isn’t 100% yet. Sorta still sounds a tiny bit muffled. I also saw in the manual that it specifically says that it’s not recording sound in the waterproof housing. I have to try it without the case and see if the audio is more clear. I would say the only thing Akaso needs to do is place the mic elsewhere and maybe have two of them 👍

I got the Brave 7 a couple weeks ago off of Amazon (because for some reason Akaso had ZERO of anything in stock on their website). So i assume i got the updated device, but still the audio is POOR! Even when i plug in the external mic, whinc i got, the difference is almost indistinguishable, it sounds almost the same. I also found that that the mic is very unidirectional (i think that's the term). If I'm not speaking directly towards the camera, you hear absolutely nothing. I took it for a test MTB ride using the helmet mount, no audio. Video and photos IMO are good, though video is super contrasty, with darks being very dark and brights being very bright. Horizon leveling is non existent so if you're used to GoPros 10 or modern smart phone cameras, it'll be a bit disorienting to watch video that has vertical movement along the Y axis.

Has anyone had issues with the Brave 7 and fog. I'm in the North East US and the air temps are starting to cool down and getting breezy. When I record video I keep getting fog in the lens. I guess the camera heats up when recording (a normal thing for this camera), and is causing the inner lens to get warm. But the screw-on outer lens cover is exposed to the cooler air temps. So it looks like the inside of the screw-on lens cover is fogging up, especially when the breeze is blowing (you can hear the breeze in the audio). Is anyone having this issue? And if yes, what is your solution? I reached out to Akaso, and they said it's a phenomena that can be reduced with anti-fog inserts. But these inserts are meant for waterproof cases, and the Brave 7 is a sealed enclosure. Besides the battery and memory doors (which are way to small to put inserts), the only other place is in the screw-on lens cover. But this would obviously block the inner lens when recording. Any advice?

look up "Modified your Akaso type C external microphone - DIY project" and see how this guy spliced in a 3.5mm jack for any mic use. what appears to be the thing is, the capsule mics that they use are just super cheap/low quality. so it doesn't matter if it was the internal vs external mic as they were probably the same capsule mic. that being said, what exactly people expect from a BUDGET goPro, is beyond me. sacrifices are clearly going to be made somewhere.
