Akaso Brave 7 Full & Final Review
Vložit
- čas přidán 14. 08. 2024
- So after just about 5 weeks of having the Akaso Brave 7 and testing it and waiting for a replacement from Akaso because of the poor audio, it was finally determined by their engineers that it is a hardware issue that can not be corrected with a firmware fix.
Really a shame as this camera had SO much potential and was by far the best made camera in regards to it's build quality that Akaso has ever produced. Maybe they will come out with a Brave 8 that will have the same build quality but correct the audio issue. Only time will tell. So here is my Akaso Brave 7 Full & Final Review.

osmo action the best but costs double the akaso
Audio...YIKES!!! LOVE my Osmo action, you suggested it, and have been happy ever since. 👍
Yikes is right ! The Osmo Action is still a solid performer.,
Akaso should make a recall on the units and fix the audio issue. I am so sad because I had my hopes up for this camera since they announced it last year. I guess I'll go with the Osmo Action, solid camera and the price drop made it a game changer TBH.
Thanx for an HONEST and accurate review! The situation on the action camera market is HORRIBLE: GoPRO suffers from sudden freezing and occasional occurrence of artifacts, these Akasoes have been reported as non-reliable when used in the water + the internal mic apparently doesn't work, Osmoes are too fragile and non water resistant... I'm pretty sure, if some CEOs out there would've been visited by some street gangs and had a lesson or two, we might finally get what we give our $ for...
Glad it was helpful!
Totally agree about the Osmo Action. I spent weeks looking at action camera videos and finally settled on the Osmo Action. The first time I rode with it on my ebike I dropped it on an asphalt bike path and other than a mar on the lens ring there was no damage on the outside or with the electronics, and still works perfectly. For an excellent action cam that is very reasonably priced you can not buy a better camera. I do not think anything comes close.
I agree, the Osmo Action is a fantastic camera. Thanks for watching
Hi Andre, I'm so glad I didn't wait for this and grabbed an Osmo Action instead, if I had waited I would have been so disappointed, thanks for the thumbs up on that on the Osmo 👍
Congrat's on the Osmo Action, it's a great action camera for sure.
Excellent review and thank you. I just purchased the Akaso v50x and except for the audio issues I have where certain video editors will not see any audio data, I'm pretty happy with it. The audio issue is easily fixed if I extract the audio in audacity or run the video through Handbrake. Most of these video editors need a constant bit rate, not variable.
I was thinking about getting this Akaso Brave 7, but after watching your video, I think I'll get the DJI OSOM Action camera instead.
Thanks again for your honest opinion.
I bought the 2023 version of the Brave 7 and it works great. Internal microphone works well. Best $165 I have spent.
Still having great sound and video with my v50 pro and glad your always keeping us updated on others.
I actually made a plastic protective cap for the lens of the v50 pro.
Thanks for great reviews
Nice, thanks for watching
Great review. Was planning on purchasing this camera, but the audio issue is a deal breaker. Thanks for saving me a headache.
Glad I could help!
Thanks for posting this. Getting ready to go on a cruise, and was going to order the Brave 7 direct from Akasa, since Amazon is out & don’t know when they’ll have any. Watched every video I could find. The biggest thing to me was the IPX8 waterproof. But, gotta have good audio. So, after looking at EVERY Akaso camera made, finally decided there was some flaw in each & every one. Just figured they’d put all the good stuff from all into the Brave 7. So, I ordered the Brave 7 LE today. Thanks!
So Mickey, I too will be getting my new Brave 7 tomorrow. Is the sound as bad as everyone says?
@@coryable8256 I thought so. It was so bad I sent it back. I just bought a waterproof case for my iPhone & a Gimble.
@@mickeymorris I guess I'll see tomorrow. I've watched every video on the subject and keep getting dif information. Sorry to hear about yours.
Thank you for your honest review -
thanks for the heads up, i almost ordered it....
Thanks for sharing this. The busted audio would be a deal-breaker for me. It doesn't sound like they plan on fixing it, or at least make it a priority. Plus you could pay only 40.00 more and get an Osmo Action.
It's not a deal breaker - it's a CRIMINAL act. To sell such camera, to pull the noses of good people (like of this reviewer - an honest and straightforward man) promising milk and honey, but ending with "oh, sorry, we equipped you with useless shiitt"...
Thank you so much for the honest preview. Unfortunately, I have purchased a Brave 7 with the same faulty problem and on the very first day, I received it just turned my guts around. I made a youtube video and sent it to them. My Vidio is unlisted let's see what they are going to say! I have been waiting for them to respond to the last email I sent late Saturday. Tomorrow will be Wednesday! looking forward to their response before I start to take action.
PayPal advise me to contact the company first.
I keep hearing a firmware upgrade fixes issue. Can you tell me if it does?
@@sadbttru Sorry! No, I can't. But personally, I don't think that firmware is going to do much. In order to bust up sound, there are other consequences obviously in my opinion.
I got an Akaso V50x a while ago. Its a good little action cam. Pretty good EIS. But the audio is pretty bad. I got the external mic, which helps. But it's not great. I wonder why Akaso seems to lack in the audio department. I just ordered the Akaso Pro SE. On your reviews and elsewhere out here, it seems to be OK. Thank You for another really informative review, along with all the details from behind the scenes dealing with the company. Thanks Andre !!!
I have no idea whats going on with Akaso and their audio, it's my opinion its cheaping out on the microphones/preamp, but then again, who knows but it's a shame.
@@WORTHITORNOT It’s amazing that these action cameras are so small nowdays. They are really just packed with some great features. If Akaso could take the audio from some models & the video from others and put them together, they could have a GREAT product. And if GoPro could work out those bugs they have had forever, they would have a camera that would be hard to beat. Is the DJI Osmo that reliable? I’ve been looking at the Insta360 ONE R Twin Edition, I like the features, pricey but people seem to like it. Thanks for doing these videos Andre !!!
@@TimHWolfe The Insta 360 One R twin edition is great !
To think that I wasted 6 months of my life waiting for the NEW Akaso Brave 7 action to see the light of day is a BIG disappointment, especially as the excellent Brave 6 Plus with its external microphone is no longer available anywhere unless I guess, is that Akaso wanted everyone to purchase the Brave 7 and Brave LE! I purchased as an alternative the Victure AC920 with its external microphone, but once again was disappointed by the lack of some of its important programming features. At the moment I'm very pleased that I still have my trusty (2018) £50 Campark X20 4k action camera for all my daily motorcycling videos! I can manage without a front screen, fancy waterproof build, and an external microphone at the moment for the sake of an excellent camera with a good build, touch screen, audio, stabilisation, and wonderful sharp image and colour quality! My Campark X20 4k camera does all of that in shed-loads! Sometimes, newer is not always better! Take care, all!
Hi. Can anyone plz plz plz plz help of how to actually format an sd card in this 7? Every time I format it does then it says “file not found” when I try and play a video. I’ve used u3 , 32 and 64 etc. thnx.
You might try a different sd card. Regarding formatting the card, there is a menu option for formatting which I always suggest using via the camera and not a desktop/laptop etc.
I'm glad I watched this video... Am I the only one who thinks that his voice is soothing?
Thank you and thanks for watching
I use on my channel the Akaso Brave 6 Plus camera mainly on 1080p 30fps. I think it has good image quality. I bought the Akaso microphone improves a little. I tough the Brave 7 would be better than the Brave 6 Plus but after seeing a few videos it isn't. I wanted to buy another to use on my motorcycle rides but Akaso Brave 6 Plus isn't available anywhere.
Great honest review 👍👍👍
Thanks for watching
I'm still getting one,
Audio is not a issue for me.
Great review. I bought Keelead P6A (review on my channel). The same problem plus few others 😁. Returned to the seller. Never chinese camera again... I have one, Yi 2k and audio is great (also with external mic mod), but not produced any more.
Thanks for sharing
Thank you for imformation about that action camera
Thanks for watching
Great review, appreciate the honesty. I have watched all your action camera videos and never saw a review on the XTU X14K action camera on your channel. Seems to have a Sony sensor and tons of features plus XTU offers a LIFETIME warranty on the camera (No one else does that!) The menu on the XTU X1 and the settings on it are different than any of the Akaso/Campark/Victure HDKing stamp outs. Has the Campark style body and buttons. Would you consider it since the Brave 7 is a non recommend and the Brave 6 Plus seems to have disappeared. Thank you!
If they send me one, I’d love to review it.
@@WORTHITORNOT Wow, thanks for the prompt reply. I will email them and see what happens. Thanks.
i just got a brave 7 and audio is working they must of made some changes
Well my original one had terrible audio and the 2nd one they sent me had no audio at all. They need to fix these issues. Do you have a video of the Brave 7 with it's "better" audio? If not, you should post one
@@WORTHITORNOT i will see about posting one
I've been looking for a vlogging style camera like a gopro. my only issue is the audio is not that great..... will this only take akaso external microphones?? or is it able to take regular external microphones like a rode microphone??
In this video I talk about it accepting an external microphone and give an example. Might want to watch the video
Hi I brought a AKASO brave 7 le the other day and recorded some videos, then downloaded the AKASO go app on my phone and tried downloading a video which was 5 minutes long but it took like 13 minutes to download to my phone? This seems a longtime is this normal?? Plz help lol
Transferring to phones take a while hence I never do it. I just transfer files from sd card to computer
@@WORTHITORNOT ok I’ll do that 🙏🏻 thank you
I really love your videos because you are really honest when talking about the products :) Here in Spain the DJI Osmo Action is more expensive (260 euros, which makes about 310 dollars), but I´m still considering it since I bought the Akaso V50X and I'm gonna return it since I really felt disappointed with the sound (let's say, actually no sound at all...). However, just to give another chance to AKASO and to not buy a very expensive camera for an amateur film maker like me :)... what would you say about AKASO V50 Pro SE, which is 130 euros here ($155), and says it includes native 4K 60fps 20MP video, touch screen, EIS, 3 1,100 mAh batteries, and the possibility of external microphone? Does it have a decent audio? Does it worth it? ;) Thanks a lot.
It does have decent audio.
So, I´ll buy the V50 Pro SE for now... Maybe the DJI next time, with a little bigger budget ;) THX!!
I'm looking for a lightweight cam to mount to a small quad. What would be 2 good cams to look at. 4k not needed. Thanks.
Firefly 8SE is a great camera for a quad.
@@WORTHITORNOT Ok, I'll check it out.
It didn't sound too bad once you added an external audio. Which audio device did you use?
? You mean my editing software ? Or the microphone that I was using during the talking head portion? If you're asking about the talking head portion, I use this microphone: amzn.to/2SCebjL

Hi enjoyed this review, did you manage to connect it to the app on your phone I have had no joy whatsoever
Yes I did

Please help. The lighter colors on this camera turn into like a white glow. on high sunlight, the lighter colors become to white and they glow white.
You probably should contact Akaso about it
well i came here looking for a review... and a review i got lols. you saved me some cash
hope you answer my query, my akaso brave 7 issue is the moist inside, did u experienced the same cased?
Nope did not experience that with mine.
Thanks you nice video
Thanks for watching !
Thanks for saving me money!
Any time!
Hi there Bruce from Canada here. The Osmo Action 3 is out in 4 days. Can you give me any input? You seemed to love your Osmo Action. The Osmo Action 2 seems a bit awkward to me. I am limping along with an Olympus camera with no screen at all right Now. I produce 2 edited videos a week. I hope to hear from you. Just subbed Thanks for the great videos.
Hey Bruce ! My Action 3 just arrived a few hours ago. I’ll be doing a lot of test videos with it.
@@WORTHITORNOT Perfect!!!
Audio should be fixt now on the new models that you buy from their site....
Thank you for the review. You are too apologetic about your conclusion, and you shouldn't be. The days of the silent movies are long gone, and an action camera with no audio should not be accepted by users. Especially not a camera with a front facing screen supposedly intended for vlogging. Akaso has had audio issues with their action cameras going back to the 50x. Audio is not some obscure problem that should be discovered by users after they buy the camera for full price. It should be identified in development and testing. It is unlikely that the water resistant body of the Brave 7, or a protective membrane over the internal microphone are the reasons. GoPro and Osmo Action have water resistant cameras and do not have these problems. Regardless, this problem should have been identified by Akaso before they put this out in the market. I have nothing against Akaso, as I use their 50 Pro and like it.
Great analysis !
The audio issues outweigh all the pros for me. I'll keep using my brave 6 plus.
Hi, have they sorted out the audio yet?
Unfortunately no
So what camera should I get for $150 or less?
Honestly, spend a few bucks more and get this: amzn.to/2T1zOdY
I've been watching and enjoying your reviews for a couple of years now, and is it just me or does it seem like Akaso just can't put together an action cam that takes advantage of the strengths of its line of action cams and put that into one action cam? It seems like one of their action cams is best in one way, another action cam is best in another way, and so on. Frustrating that they can't put it all together in just ONE action cam.
I know what you mean, it always seems to be a balancing act with what you get for the money as some sacrifices always have to be made somewhere. I would take good image quality, stabilization and audio over a touchscreen any day.
Finally got my camera and yes I have exactly the same issue with the sound.
It’s really sad, as they had a potential winner on their hands.
@@WORTHITORNOT I've just recorded an unboxing video of it. I love the way it was packaged and the accessories that come with it. I did have a rant about Akaso themselves considering they charged me $15 for a 4-7 days delivery that actually took the 6.5 weeks to deliver. The comparison video I'm going to do against the Osmo action is going to be interesting.
No Idea if you still have the camera or not but I've been doing some interesting testing and will release a video this coming Wednesday of the results. I was going to send you an advance link so you could have a look and try it for yourself. If you are interested let me know and I'll send you the link.
I'm def for the XTU X1.
?
@@WORTHITORNOT Meaning I'll take the XTU X1 over this Akaso , I actually have the Akaso LE and like it , but wanting a second camera and the XTU X1 has a lot going for it , for not much more price wise than the Akaso.
@@nashguy2814 Gotcha
Still waiting for mine. Getting a bit peeved about it to tell the truth.
Any word on an audio fix for the Brave 7?
I heard that they are working on it right now and should be releasing information on it soon. That's the last thing I heard about a week ago.
I just don't understand how any manufacturer can release a product with the secondary function unusable. I was already leaning toward recording a separate audio track using my phone anyway.
I agree
Thank you so much for the honest review! I had actually backed their keychain v-logger camera via IndieGoGo and it was a hot mess: www.indiegogo.com/projects/akaso-keychain-ultra-lightweight-4k-vlog-camera/x/17702996#/. After an initial promise of a refund, they backtracked and pushed a different camera. I had seen your reviews on the others and liked the Brave 7LE, but didn't like the saturated video and the lack of an external mic. I requested the Brave 7, knowing the an external mic can be supported, but your review has really soured me on it.
What would you recommend from Akaso instead? The Oslo sounds nice, but I'm not getting my money back from Akaso, so I'm trying to find a decent replacement from them. It sounds like you had far better luck with their "reps" than me. :-( Thank you again!
Humm, the Brave 6 plus is a good camera but they don't seem to offer it anymore. The V50 Pro SE is a good camera.
@@WORTHITORNOT Thank you so much! I'll see if I can swap them out.
@@WORTHITORNOT Sorry to bother again. I'm now between the Brave 7 LE (durability, 2 screens, water resistance) and the Pro SE (better audio, external mic, better quality for 60 FPS settings). I was wondering, however, what is the difference was between the Pro SE and the Endless Summer?
I'm just sad they refuse to fix audio
Considering an Osmo Action is only $50+, at most, just spend the extra cash and get the better version of this camera, even the mic adaptor is only $26 to get great audio. Yeah you don't get 2 batteries but batteries are cheap too so just spend $100 more and you get a better camera.
Agreed
Very thorough video. 👍 #AndreSavesCats
Lmao.
the camera is nice, but the audio is big issue...
Yes it is.
Like I said Akaso is not worth at all. There's an issues in video looping and audio. The audio is so hilarious and the video is still cut Avery 5mins. It's sad because brave 7 Le has a nice image quality I love the color image is so alive, but sad to say there's an issues in video and audio..I love it coz it's affordable unlike go pro that so expensive
Akaso accidently made brave 6 plus soo sooo good that they just cannot make any of the following future products up to brave 6 plus level, and they have to take brave 6 plus out of production so they can do some business by selling comparatively inferior product.
So the solution is to bring back EIS of brave 6 plus with image quality and audio, and keep the built quality of brave 7 or 7 le
It's back ! amzn.to/3iUbfu4
What Akaso have done? this brave7 is clearly a winner! then this stupid sound issue, it not even just bad? the Micro is faulty, not useable.
Another youtuber lamented the sucky audio of brave 7. Its not an isolated case. Sucks tbh
OSMO ACTION is a DOBLE price!!!
Yup and more than double the performance
@@WORTHITORNOT are you talking about DJI OSMO 4 or 3?
@@PetClipdog 3 or 4 but the 3 has a focus issue that was resolved in the 4
Who buys an action camera for audio?
It's not important.
Even gopros need commentary or external mike's.
Well respectfully you’re wrong on a few points, Action cameras make the perfect vlogging camera so audio is important and regarding GoPro, the Hero 10-11 have fantastic audio built in the camera
@@WORTHITORNOT You aren't going to vlog with the built in Mike on a GoPro 10. You would use an external.
And I can't think of a scenario where you would use an action camera with the wind noise switched on.
Depends on your sport of course.
@@matc1603 Thousands of people do use the GoPro Hero 10 or 11 to vlog with the built in microphones and a windslayer foam cover. These are your opinions so do what you like best.
Over the past 6 years of doing reviews on action cameras EVERYONE wants an audio test which means people want to use the built in audio.
I think this has audio issues - word is from the grapevine
I don't know why you waste your time reviewing anything by Akso I thought they don't make anything justy some chinese tech company makes some cheap action cam then allow companies to rebrand. Osmo action just beats this rubbish pants down and what is the point of lots of extras when the action cam sucks! Oh and their engineers?? Hardware issue bull if Akaso made anything they don't fully tests it out after R&D. I will never watch any Aksao review again.
The short Version...I WOULD NOT BUY THIS CAMERA IF I SAW THIS REVIEW and KNEW WHAT I KNOW NOW.
I bought a Brave7 based upon the claims of second generation stabilization. While I will agree the video in 4K when attached to my car is really good and almost 100% stable - There is NO AUDIO! I don't mean bad audio - I mean NO Audio. In my opinion this camera should never have been released. I really hope AKASO can do the right thing and replace these OBVIOUSLY DEFECTIVE units. Now on their website AKASO says - you need to use the external microphone for BETTER audio - in reality without the external mic this camera will not record distinguishable audio.
I bought pre-release, so IT's MY OWN FAULT for believing the advertising. NOW, it will be a matter of determining if AKASO is a reputable company and will either fix this audio problem or exchange the units.
So this AKASO experience pushed me to buy the OSMO action cam based upon the reviews here and now I see what a difference a quality manufacturer makes for a replacement product.
