Same thing happened with the dodo, it wasnt lazy nor stupid, it just didnt evolve or have the need to be scared or have fight or flight instincts. Except unlike the dodo, we gave the kakapo a chance.

Kakapos are some of the most amazing creatures, in my opinion. A few years ago, I applied to come to New Zealand and work on the islands for their conservation effort, but unfortunately they weren't looking for anyone at the time and I ended up elsewhere. I'm not sure I would've got to these lengths though

I remember seeing this video once when I was a little kid and I developed this hyperfixation with kakapos afterwards lol. then when I found out they were very much at risk of extinction I went and printed out a bunch of leaflets I made on word detailing how we needed to campaign to save them and distributed them to everyone in my neighborhood lmao

Shafay Rajput he got sick as a baby and thus had to be raised by humans. Due to having to only interact with humans in his youth he has imprinted on humans. Basically it means he thinks he’s a human and thus thinks he can reproduce with humans. They made a sperm gathering helmet in a failed attempt to at least collect his sperm so they could impregnate a female for him. He refused to shag humans with the helmet. To this day Sirocco has not figured out that he is a bird.

Ok since this has gotten one like, and since I’m bored, I might as well explain. Please note that I do not breed hawks at all, I got this info off the internet. Anyways, let’s say a breeder brings in a pair of hawks, one boy and one girl. The breeder tries to let them mate, but realizes that it’s probably not going to work out (usually one hawk attacks the other, but there can be other reasons). So, the breeder separates the birds and brings out a hat and puts it on their head. This hat... imagine a honeycomb that looks exactly like a plain sun hat. Like this:👒. This special hat allows the breeder to collect the hawk sperm. All the hawk has to do is to shag that hat like a kakapo!
