- The Citadel DLC is a phenomenal final sendoff to the Mass Effect Trilogy where Shepard can invite pretty much every squadmate and major crew member (provided they are still alive) to a party at The Commander’s swanky apartment on the Citadel.
But what happens if you throw the party without sending any invitations? We’ll be exploring this exact scenario in today’s video. Keep watching to see it all.

Right after defeating your evil clone and recapturing the Normandy, Joker will suggest that Shepard throw a party. Right off the bat, he will invite Cortez, Traynor and EDI. Glyph will invite Liara and Cortez pings James. So immediately we have six people on our guest list… and this is technically all we’ll need to throw the party.
With the exception of Liara and Joker, this is hardly a cast of fan favorites. So why of all people are these the default characters who must be invited to the party? Well I’m glad you asked. Excluding the DLC character Javik, these are the only six characters who are guaranteed to be alive in Mass Effect 3. Every other potential party guest could possibly die in Mass Effect 1 or 2, depending on the player’s decisions. So Bioware built a baseline of scenes and conversations around characters who were guaranteed to be alive in Mass Effect 3; and then made those characters mandatory for the party to guarantee a bare minimum of content.
Well my friends, let’s take a look at the bare minimum of content because I’m not sending out any invitations. Some of the interactions are relatively unchanged. For instance this kitchen conversation between Traynor and Liara is roughly the same, minus all the extra characters standing around and occasionally chiming in. For this video, I’ll be focusing on the conversations that are the most different from the full sized parties. Ya know the ones that are entirely unique or that just feel like there’s a major piece missing from the interaction.
There are also two different types of parties we can throw - energetic or quiet. And we’ll take a look at examples from both. - Hry

Those of us who are introverts appreciate being able to have small parties with closer friends rather than a huge group of people who I might not even know.
Each scene was progressively more hilariously depressing, but when I saw James doing pushups while Liara's facepalming, I had to pause the video to catch my breath.
I mean, what is he trying to prove? It would have made more sense if Liara was using biotics to hover around while he did push ups.
It also makes the scene look even more like he's trying to get into Liara's pants. Going all alpha male with the push ups, then suggesting a more fun way to get sweaty and Liara is just like YEAH DANCING.
Deep down she's still that naive 106 year old we met in a volcano.
I feel like the EDI Traynor scene talking about cooking was specifically for bringing up the suicide mission and making you feel bad. Since you need the minimum party in order to get that scene, you probably failed miserably in the suicide mission.
This is depressing, but more accurate to how my real life parties go lol

If you want it to be sadder, then look up “Saddest Party on the Citadel”, because instead of just not inviting everyone they go out of their way to kill everyone so they can’t show up.
For me, this DLC alone makes up for the ending. This is what I was fighting for. The memories.
Not a fan of parties IRL but there is no way my Shep is going out without getting smashed with every squadmate it's possible to have there.

What's really funny is how Hackett and Gen. Shepard from MWII are both voiced by the sane person. Lance Henrikson.
Tali imitating ship sounds while she's drunk during the uptempo party, is the best thing about the whole DLC.

@@alcian91 Same with Morinth and Jack. Morinth will be taken by the Reapers, and Jack can be ignored by not going to Grissom, in which Cerberus captures her. Don't recommend either of these though. Zaeed can also save you even if unloyal in ME2, then die in his pickup mission in ME3, but it's very rare to get this naturally. Miranda can also be one of two to keep you alive in ME2, and then you can purposely not talk to her about Kai Leng in ME3, in which she can die on Horizon. There's many ways to manually force the game to let you survive ME2 and then the saviors die in ME3, as I've done a playthrough like this where only Samara survives the three games so that I could romance her in ME3. I've seen a similar party to this, and it is very depressing.
I think the EDI-Traynor cooking scene purely exists to make you feel bad if you'd happened. Bringing up the suicide mission, the "careful planning," etc.
Man, not only is the group photo depressing because there's no one on it, but on top of that, the people on it seem to not care at all about Shepard or the party (except James) lmaooo

I like how you can sabotage the Genophage cure, murder Wrex and lose all Clan Urdnot support, but Grunt is somehow still happy to come hang out with Shepard and the gang.

I don’t think Grunt was ever really bothered by the Genophage in the first place. Hell Okeer practically says Grunt isn’t meant to cure the Genophage, he’s basically a giant FU to the Genophage.

I feel like Garrus would assume he missed the invite and apologized for missing the party because he was too busy calibrating.

Well it kinda is, just rush the story, but being able to only keep one squad member alive is a challenge
@@TheKisj Actually it super easy, barely an incovenience.
So to "no survivor" just dont upgrade the ship nor have any loyal companion, also take Grunt, Garrus and/or Zaeed to the final fight (the ones still alive) just to be sure.
On the other hand to save a single person you need that person to be loyal and send them to escort the crew back to the ship (after being in your squad during the tech part and with fire team in the biotics part). Also you need to kill someone before the Omega 4 mission, the options are Legion (send to TIM) and Grunt (never alive), or just dont recruit the ones from the second batch and DLC (if you are ok with they only being outside the story instead of dead).
AND if you want Jack, Kasumi or Thane to the be the one living you will need the relevant ship upgrade (same for Tali if you dont have Kasumi)
technically speaking, i belive you need at least two squadmates to survive in order for shepard to make it out alive as you are not allowed to go on missions with less than three people. that said, killing off the whole team isn't that hard, especially because you don't actually need to recruit every single squadmate

@@marpj6138 if you're actually interested, ignoring the dlc characters and not recruiting legion leaves 9 characters, and i believe it is possible to actually start the mission with 8, but don't quote me on that, you can kill 3 off before even reaching the base by not doing Jacob, tali, and garrus upgrades, then killing the others off is just about picking the wrong squadmades or having no loyalty. given that every choice you make can result in at least one death, killing off the rest of the team just requires picking the wrong person for the job. if you want to make it out with two characters still alive, then make sure the two characters you bring to fight the human reaper are loyal, otherwise they will die.

Since you have seen so much of it, I have a question: I am certain I have had the party go in a way that at some point Traynor was IN the hot tub DURING the party (I believe with someone else).
