The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

" I ain't no senators son"
Sure rings true today. Nothing has changed.
Indeed, sadly…
I saw this live broadcast 4 days before I was inducted, as a 19 year old draftee, into the U.S. Army...things like this you don't forget, ever...
That's amazing
Thanks for joining, and serving,I joined in 1974,honorable American
@@elifoust7664 I'm British but thank you for you're service
@@jackwynne2823 your welcome Cousin
@@elifoust7664 I didn't 'join'...I was drafted against my will...'hell no, we won't go', but we did anyway: No deferment like the 'Fortunate Sons' sung about, right?
The BEST anti war song of all time.
I'll stick with "War Pigs" by Black Sabbath
Even though John said it wasn't an anti war song you still get people lying saying it is
His voice sounds almost identical to the studio recording. Fuckin awesome
It’s amazing how his voice ROARED when he began singing. Shame how the music here was a recording though.
because it was a dubbed performance, as were many on Sullivan's show
@@teresaholly2877 No, it wasn’t. Only the music was.
@@teresaholly2877 The voice is LIVE
@@teresaholly2877 not the voice tho
That high pitched rock tenor voice of Fogerty with that rasp is just absolutely fantastic & unmistakable. What a great songwriter, singer/guitarist. A great natural talent.
Isn't he a baritone??
@@damonmoon436 Are you kidding?? NO
Jim Morrison was a baritone Not Fogerty.
Listen to the difference in the tone of voice plus Fogerty sings much higher and stays up there.
@@yesterdayproductions1019he still sings in the baritone range though. Jimbo could’ve hit those notes as well
@@fiftysecwithoutza No he doesn't. You don't know anything about music. He is constantly singing G4'S & A4'S (mid tenor range) and his tessitura there is very impressive. PLUS his voice is High pitched in tone. He is no baritone. Have no idea who is Jimbo. You whole comment is idiotic. LOL
Talk about a voice of a generation!
Surprised me that Sullivan let them play this song. Sending chills down my spine. great, meaningful lyrics and what a voice. Great.
Every helicopter 🚁 pilot plays this song atleast once a month while in the air.
🤣
Wow...
Get some
"HELICOPTER PILOT"? I wonder if they have listened!
Fogerty's voice has to be mentioned as one of the best ever in rock surely.
This riff is KILLER! John Fogerty is a legend Alive!
His left hand is blocked for most of the video🤬
I hope Mr Fogerty lives to 90!
@@johnathandavis3693huh?????
@@rayvega3163 I play a little guitar. I like to see how they are articulating the fretboard...
I saw John Fogerty live in 2014 and he had not missed a note. What a great, underrated, talent.
Saw him last month in Dublin Ireland playing a full set of Creedence songs. It was amazing.
20 days before I came home after 14 months in the nam. 51 years latter it still fills good to be home. RIP to all the.....GOD BESS THEM.
Gd bless you🙏
Welcome home, brother.
Welcome home. Thank you for your service!
the government sent you to die, that's what this song is about
Thank you for your service
As you see, the camera dolly hits its mark every time with the camera person coming in and out right on the director's cue. This is the work of union NABET workers who were their top of seniority ranks to work the Sullivan show. This was an assignment that you did NOT screw up on or you ended up in the basement of CBS "Black Rock" splicing video tape during the midnight shift :)
Agreed , superb camera work , this whole video would have been a pleasure to see live , bit before my time though (77)
Did you use to how do you know that they are the best I’ve ever seen you got many more examples
Could barely see Tom Fogarty. Not my favorite filming of this song live.
Beatles this. Beatles that. This is STILL why I want to be in a rock and roll band. and I loudly applaud the stage crew who built that simulated barn set for one song.
One of the best vocal performances ever.
That crunch in his voice
The great John Fogerty is still putting on incredible shows in 2021 at age 76!
The best rock ‘n’ roll band of the late 60s
No argument there.
Right
CCR is the pride of El Cerrito, CA! A small town across the bay from San Francisco, next to Berkeley: the epicenter of anti-war movements! 👏👍💪🤗🇺🇸
Right behind the beatles
Make that ever.
Ed Sullivan was what we should all want to be when we're old--open to what younger people are doing and thinking, and not wedded to everything we grew up with. He hated racism, and while he wasn't against the war, he understood that many people were and that they had the right to be that way.
The Ed Sullivan show was solid gold.
What an amazing iconic voice. And a song with lyrics that are so very pertinent 50 or so years later.
Sort of, 2 out of 3, there aint no draft so nobody is sending anybody to war, unless you sign up for it.
@@hammer44head The two out of three are worse than ever.
They really had that raw southern Bayou groove happening. Great formula 👍
This sounds like The Who to me!
In 1972 myself and General Imhoff flew into Saigon and this was the very song played by the pilot of our Huey. It brings back so many memories. Myself and Ron were soon invited to join with the secret service but i can't talk much about that. We were just there for the good food, that is all, apart from we were instrumental in ending that war with our boots firmly to the ground.
I've seen a lot of CCR coverbands; no one even comes close !! That voice; that energy.... Fantastic !!!!!!
Standing up for your self. Standing up for rock and roll, outsider music, music for the real man, the common girl/boy the real deal. That's the truth. That's real deal rock/roll
I really like the way the camera goes around the band, and it looks like CCR play is live. I remember rolling thur the dirt road in some foreign
land like the Mog, locked and loaded and some guy played this song on a cassette player and , What a Rush.
Yep, one single camera shot, Fogerty following the camera, mic pointed straight up to catch his vocals no matter which way he was standing, everything plugged in, 100% live. Good stuff.
@@SamSteinig This isn't live audio.
@@joelglanton6531 Vocals are
@@fz7091 I'm not totally convinced of that but either way the post I responded to said "100% live" which isn't the case and should be pretty clear to any serious musician.
@@joelglanton6531 I'm convinced it's live. Fogerty is making sure he's on top of the mic, everything's plugged in, and - what I think is usually the clincher - Doug Clifford is hitting every beat, every fill perfectly, and this is not the studio version. So there's no way this is just live vocal on top of playback. I know bands sometimes pre-recorded non-studio versions for TV shows and then mimed those versions (most obvious one is The Who's "My Generation" on Smothers Brothers) but this is live. Fogerty's fretwork is spot-on, and so is Stu's bass playing. Tom, well... you barely even see him anyways :)
Damn, the camera-work for this performance is ON-POINT!
Good stuff all-around!
SOME FOLKS ARE BORN, MADE TO RASE THE FLAG
WHOO THAT RED WHITE AND BLUE! that never gets old
Best song CCR.
At the time, it was Creedence and Doors. Nobody else mattered.
Doug Clifford is sooooo cool!
John Fogerty was not only a proficient songwriter but also an amazing vocalist.
Guitarist too
This is fantastic. His voice is great! Perfection by all means. Whoever made it to Sullivan was just awesome 👏🏻
Rock & roll for heroes.
Just as good live as they are in studio, not many bands are like that.
All but the voice is dubbed.
The instruments are pre-recorded. Only Fogerty's voice is live
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Creedence Clearwater Revival!
Sitting in BFBC2 Vietnam chopper having this on the radio back in 2011
What a song , sums up a generation & what they were going through in that period of time in 1960s america ,with the vietnam war raging on ..& the young men that were drafted to serve & die there ...
This is what you call REAL MUSIC
My dad was finally home that Feb of 69 doing 2 tours as a US MARINE with INDIA COMPANY 3RD BATT 26TH. His heaviest battle KHE SAN in 68. he was an F.O . he served form 65-69 we lost him to leukemia do to the effect of Agent orange in 2005.
Wow what a voice
A white Wilson Pickett, John had some pipes.
Just saw John in concert and he's still rockin those sideburns!
He still sounds great...
This song was always and still is fucking great.
Какие там битлы,какой там Ролинг Стоунз? Криденс!!!❤❤❤
This goes out to those who may not be aware. CCR was properly the most played music in Nam. Why? Because most of the songs are about being in a combat zone. Listen to the words and you'll understand.
My dad was in nam, said he played the hell out of CCR

"Some folks inherit star-spangled eyes oooh they'll send you down to war. And when you ask them, "how much should we give?" Oooh they'll only answer, "more, more, more"
My favorite version so far.
It’s lip synced bruh
Totally priceless color footage!
That was nicely shot. You never think of Ed Sullivan
(show) doing anything that creative. CCR always great.
Why would you think that? Ed Sullivan was way ahead of his time. He caught a lot of flack for bringing controversial talent to his show. Especially giving black performers so much exposure. He was the first to put the Supremes and Ray Charles on TV. He was the first to put Elvis and the Beatles. The Doors, the Mama's and the Pappas, Tina Turner, Jefferson Airplane, and tons of others. Ed Sullivan is an icon and doesn't get enough credit for what he did to change the country.
Always like this song....It was 1 of their harder rocking tunes
Yeah this was my Dads favourite band I knew most of their songs since I was toddler. Run through the jungle was my favourite song when I was 3.
@@robsingletary2383 You left another comment.
Cue Viet Nam helicopter sequence.
Man this is Excellent Man they played it close to the studio version cool 👍
This is as good as it gets… And it will never be as good as this again..
Gold
The attitude expressed in these lyrics was actually a popular one then, and pretty common in top 40 music.
My wonderful young years of nieve and happy memories, I'm glad to experience the non hateful era of love and happiest
A jewel!
Without question, the most iconic anti-Vietnam War song ever written.
This track is simply superb. So full of intent and meaning. And what have we got today? Harry Styles in a dress, singing about watermelons..... not sure we have progressed really 🙂
Don't forget "wet ass pussy" by nicki minaj....pure musical genius right there.
We have the liberal woke crybabies now days.
A very important anti-war protest song. I personally believe songs like this helped end the war sooner.
down in sinaloa his songs are strong as the local music most of the people dont understand the lyrics but just get down with the groove
OMG that was tight and right!
Alpha Charlie bravo 👏
Thank you so much! ❤️❤️
Wow those guitars sound extra crunchy in this video. I never heard them so clear! It gives whole new meaning and feel to this song
No one can even come close to singing like this. Great song.
It's because he sings an angry song with joy!
Johns voice is just unique. True rock and roll
Their best song ever!
Hope your listening bush JR
Tom's Rhythm Guitar is Solid as a Rock!
Amazing that the Fogarty brothers, Cook and Clifford struggled through the 60s to find their sound, caught fire in a four-year span, then couldn't get along when they finally achieved success under John Fogarty's leadership, flaming out in '72.
2024 and lyrics is same as our world
Watching clips like this makes it clear how far we've fallen.
Rebellion ...beautiful way to express it
Some folks are born made to wave the flag
They're red, white and blue
And when the band plays "Hail to the Chief"
They point the cannon at you, Lord
It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no senator's son, son
It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no fortunate one
Some folks are born silver spoon in hand
Lord, don't they help themselves, yeah
But when the taxman comes to the door
The house look a like a rummage sale
It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no millionaire's son, no, no
It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no fortunate one
Yeah, some folks inherit star-spangled eyes
They send you down to war
And when you ask 'em: "How much should we give?"
They only answer: "More, more, more"
It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no military son
It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no fortunate one, one
It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no fortunate one
It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no fortunate one

Draft dodger played this at maga rallies in 2020...Mr silver spoon
@@sherirobinson5112 - John spoke out about this and said he wrote this song about people like trump.
@@roseblake5803 he wrote this song about a certain Senator's son from Tennessee and everyone knows who that Senator's son is. Too bad Fogarty does not have the integrity to acknowledge it, since that person is now a leftist icon. i actually read or heard that Fogarty said the person was David Eisenhower, Ike's grandson and Nixon's son in law, which makes no sense since he was not a Senator's son. as for Trump, he did more to keep us out of needless conflicts than any recent president so it was weird if Fogerty took that cheap shot. if Trump had led us into war, then the comment would at least have reason to be considered, Trump did exactly the opposite. the fact that Fogerty will not even acknowledge who it is about means he can write a great song but not gonna look to him for lessons on integrity and honor.

Very great song!
CCR for ever!

A perfect live vocal, no easy task.
That was absolutely epic. Love CCR, superb band. 💜
Good camera work! Good video qwality and sound
So bad azz..you damn right
inviting musical guest onto your show and then making them perform to a backing track is wild.
Sixties music and cars can’t be beat.
man, john will always have the coolet voice on the planet. that perfect rasp.
One of my favorite all-time songs
CCR obliterated the Beatles, and knocked them off the charts and the radar of the USA. Incredible feat, despite their internal squabbles, Fogerty was just extremely talented. He sung about important topics, such imagery and imagination. The other guys did not have the insight to let him be the band leader like Bono in U2 ......
Probably the best sounding performances by Creedence ever, live or studio.
Wow never seen this performance!
Great camera work
They played in st. Louis 1969 that was my first concert
Thank God there is no Draft (period)
Incrivel como a voz do jhon soava como a versão de estúdio em todas as músicas, uma lenda da cultura pop
Reminds me of playing Battle field bad company 2 Vietnam dlc
Great group
My dad passed away 3 weeks ago. He served 2 years in VN in 68 and 69. He came home with half his jaw and left thumb gone. He was snuck into the Oklahoma City airport at 4;00 am to avoid the protestors. I remember being scared to death when I was a boy hearing my dad scream out in his sleep with nightmares. If this song came on he would get really angry. Didn’t realize why until now. You can ohh and awe over this draft dodger but I say for my father who sacrificed so you could stay home and be a rockstar. Screw you John.
He was in the reserves and didn’t dodge anything. 🙄
You should say “screw the state” not John. Sorry about your Father. I’ll pray for him
Yep truly the best band!!
these are the best !!!
