Q: 911, what is your emergency?
A: A man exists.
LEO: LIGHTS AND SIRENS!
Well, I have found that to be a serious problem!! 😄
😂😂😂
My first reaction is, wasn't dispatch able to find a patrol officer closer to the man's location!
Probably no one else available short staffed obviously.
Apparently not.
Police can't literally be everywhere at once, what can you really do.
I don’t know what technology they use, but it would be cool if they had something like the Citizen app that showed them where in the city a call is located and where each officer is (and maybe fire and ambulance units).
@@Xosidhe They do have that. Dispatch has a big electronic map on the wall that shows the movement of all police units within the city. Son is a cop.
90% driving to call
10% elderly man
Not a bad thing though
It was an interesting drive
Except it was a priority run on a bogus call. Endangering the officer and public for no good reason.
@@bearcat0551 Not so sure it was a bogus call. There was an old man at the intersection. Maybe the police already know him and know he can jump out the way of the traffic - and just admonish him to keep on the sidewalk. A person driving by would not necessarily know that.
The drive was pretty exciting, though.
I can hear the sirens from a mile away!
I always pull to the right and stop!
Why don’t people get that???
Because they love camping that left lane for no reason, have their music up to deafening levels, and/or simply don't care
Not everyone can hear as well as others. Most deaf people drive. Although I will admit it seems as if many drivers are clueless about their immediate surroundings. Which can be dangerous for others on the roads.
The LED emergency lights can be seen from a mile away, too-if you’re checking your mirrors.
Agreed 💯
Because some people are horribly reckless.
When Karen’s call 911
all these armchair neurologists who diagnose anyone and everyone over the age of 50 as elderly and having dementia make me wanna SCREAM !! …
Never heard of them. I'm actually 69. What makes me wanna scream are all these armchair neurologists who diagnose anyone that commits a crime or misbehaves in public or has to be frog-marched out of a public bar or has committed a horrific murder - as someone with autism.

I can’t believe the woman that called on him actually believes he’s really old and out of his mind walking around in circles. 🤦🏼♀️
she probably doesnt...
just mad hes asking for money at the traffic lights and trying to put what she thinks, is more than a ticket, on him.
Where I live, people living like this, young or old have a short lifespan. Lots of them. Police don't do diddly, even though their fatality rate is quite high - like the boys that used to sell newspapers at intersections. So, it would be cool if this practice can be limited before it gets out of hand, like here. Once out of hand, people are terrified of stopping at intersections, in case one of these pople break your window and steal your bag off the seat.
The citizen who phoned in must have arrived in a time machine from an era when it wasn't so common to see people begging or selling trinkets at intersections.
As retired EMS nothing more infuriates me than drivers not moving out of the way for Rescue personal on way to a call,i have been sideswiped in a ambulance on way to hospital with patient lights and sirens, idiot was not paying attention and went thru red light,as for the lady who didnt know what a real emergency is i just shake my head and think just another day in this crazy world, hope you have a Great weekend Officer Ben😃
I live in an apartment complex on Sullivant near Westgate Park and was walking to Kroger's with hubby to do some shopping. On the way to Kroger's, a cop stopped to question us because someone claimed we were looking in garages. We weren't and was minding our business. The cop was polite with us and slightly irk that someone wasted his time.
A few drivers need to learn the law regarding pulling to the right, and stopping when an emergency vehicle is approaching. The fella didn't look like he had anything wrong with him. Have a great day my friend, and stay safe ❤️🙂⚘️🚔💙.
"He wouldn't respond to me." Well doesn't she think highly of herself. No one is required to respond to everything she says to others. It amazes me the amount of people who think they deserve a response from total strangers.
This is *soo* true. People will interpret your noninteraction as a threat because they fear the unknown. I had an instance of this at work the other day. Said not a word to a customer while servicing her, and she busted out into an unhinged verbal assault on me the other day. She completely forgot or did not care that I’m a grown adult and don’t need to respond to her.
My father loved to take long walks alone. Then he began a slow mental decline but was still able to come back home with no problems.
But one day he got lost.
The people who noticed him didn’t call the Police.
They stopped to talk to him to see if he was in trouble and needed help. They saw he had my mother’s phone number and they called her.
Nobody risked their life that day and he was safe.
Useless to say that was the last time my dad walked alone.
Please, stop and talk with the elderly if you think they are confused or in need.
That long drive at high speed could be avoided if people had been less superficial.
I'm sorry for you, officer Ben.
Hard to believe that you were the closest car.
You obviously have no concept of the number of calls for service everyday, the number of officers available to respond. Sometimes they have 15-20 calls backed up that officers are attempting to handle. They have to be prioritized by nature. Talk to your local police or sheriff office about this very issue. You may be surprised about what they are dealing with these days.
5 minutes? Not that hard to believe.
At that time of day it was shift change. Seems they sent someone out from 19 pct to cover 10 pct during the shift change.
Worked on a cop car as a mechanic. Test drove it and saw 32 waiting calls. Ended up chatting and learning it’s because short staff.
False “silver alert.”
"He looks very oooooooolllllld."
Well, thank you ma'am, we'll put out a BOLO and an APB at once!
So many clueless people out there who have no idea what to do when sirens are coming!
They know, they just don't care. That or they aren't paying attention to their surroundings.
Good thing there wasn’t a robbery, car jacking or actual emergency because the criminals would have been long gone - the fact you were the closest unit to respond is not good and this video was a clear example of how it takes too long for officers to arrive to real issues.
Well if people wouldn’t treat the police like crap and scream defund the police we’d probably have a lot more people wanting to go into that profession and have more available officers closer to respond to calls 🤷🏻♀️
When seconds matter, the police are there in minutes. And it's not the fault of the police, they can't literally be everywhere at once. Which is why all good American citizens should carry guns of their own.
@@mama_j1629 I'm convinced a robotic police force is coming. That is not ideal, but will eliminate all bias and emotionally caused circumstance.

Wow! Just watching this, “riding along” with lights and sirens, cars not moving over, gave me anxiety! 😮 God bless you officer. Stay safe out there.😊
His driving and siren gave people anxiety.
I watch these all the time bc they are such a great example of empathetic and compassionate officers. Great respect 💙
Caller just wanted Panhandling to stop
A friend of mine's mother had dementia and would escape the house, trying to find the job she retired from 30 years ago. It happens. Don't just walk by.
She knew what she was doing , she did not like the guy by the road with his sign, she needs to be cuffed for jeopardizing the officer and public for a bullshit call.
I absolutely love your intro music. I find myself humming it throughout my day.
0:45 "He seems very old" isnt that illegal in ohio?
In some cases it’s better to be safe than sorry
It just goes to show how little attention that some drivers have its good that the officer didn't get into an accident
A First Responder once told me they’d rather be called 100 times for nothing than not be called one time they are truly needed.
I think that message is more beneficial than the one conveyed at the beginning of this video.
Not in this instance. The point is the clueless woman had zero insight about the man in question. I’m rather concerned that someone that clueless is looking after a father with dementia. She’s dangerously ignorant.
Either you're lying or that person didn't know what they were talking about.
1:48 that black car: “What should I do? Where should I move? Let’s just straddle the centerline of the road.” 🤨
Is it really that hard to see what's happening there? He was about to turn left (maybe seeing then the cop was directly behind him) but then the cop went into the opposite lanes and would have T-boned him it he hadn't been paying attention. I'd say he did the best thing he possibly could have at that point.
@@adammiller9179 That gray SUV which was behind him in the left lane had time to move over two full lanes (as appropriate) before the black SUV’s driver even started his left turn.
@@adammiller9179when an emergency vehicle is approaching with lights and sirens, you're supposed to pull over to the right side of the road. Emergency vehicles always pull to the left, even if it means crossing the yellow line.
@@ColumbusPoliceBodyCamera If reading from the UK etc please remember it's the opposite way round. 😂😂😂😂
@@ColumbusPoliceBodyCameraYou know what cracks me up? I used to be an avid runner. These days I ride bikes. Anyway, we use the same rule while on a path running or biking. I ALWAYS shout out "Passing on your left" any time I'm going around someone. About 50% of the time I will get people who will either completely STOP and freeze or they will move to their left, thereby getting right in the way. 😳 Common sense is so lacking these days. 🤦🏻♀️
An older man with a touch of dementia wobbles into a Catholic Church, sits down in the confessional booth, but doesn't utter a word. The priest coughs, hoping to get a response. But the older man just sits and says nothing. Finally, the priest raps his knuckles three times on the screen.
The older guy mumbles, "Don't bother knocking, pal. There's no paper over here either.”
She was concerned. A rare thing nowadays! And if this person was ill? Better safe than sorry!
Would have been better if she didn't completely exaggerate everything on the call.
If she was as concerned as she claimed she would’ve waited with the man until police arrived. She called from her car and exaggerated/lied about the whole thing.
Putting all these people in danger for a guy who can easily be lost and confused for three more minutes. That's not okay.
People who truly have dementia and Alzheimer's disease go missing all the time , even in 3 minutes. Many times, it is because no one steps in to take away the right to drive. There are 27 American states with a silver alert system in place , but it truly should be all of them. If the woman truly thought this man had dementia she should of stayed nearby and kept him in sight until help arrived. Clearly she should not have called. As a healthcare worker of 19 years I am thankful the dispatch response was quick in case it was a real dementia person. Have a great day , Officer Ben .
No, it's not. Bogus call or not.
You just drove half way across Franklin County….. and YOU were the nearest police officer for this call ?
If the person who called in really cared about the person/thought it was someone who was lost, they could have stayed with them or kept them in the store/with someone else if they didn't have time/had to leave so they were safe until cops got there. That way an officer wouldn't have had to speed through the city and potentially cause an accident (nothing against this officer, just saying it sucks for all officers that their lives and others are put at risks, especially for something like this). Also, since the officer rushed out, wouldn't hurt to talk more to the man. Or maybe the businesses around, see if maybe they've had any issues with him. Maybe the man HAD been causing issues, jumping in traffic, etc. Maybe he was lost and confused and just saying no. Unless you know the person, can be hard to tell with a two second engagement. You rushed there, might as well give it a few minutes time just to be sure. Glad everyone/everything turned out okay. Hope people stop making (potentially) false calls. I get sometimes people mean the best, like calling in if they see someone "slumped over" in their car (but then it turns out they were just napping while their spouse was in store shopping or something) but at least TRY to engage with the person and figure out the situation before calling for help so you don't waste officers time. Don't just assume. Stay safe, stay kind.
It is 2024. Not a good idea in the city anymore.
That guy practically lives on that corner.
6 minutes of pointless driving and i just watched 6 minutes of a pointless video 😂 here we are.
Cop must have missed the Due Regard portion of emergency vehicle operation class.
Good reaction time.
Praise God, there was almost a real emergency, but it was avoided
There are a LOT of people who are deaf to approaching sirens.
All that for nothing...Wow! That's why I couldn't be a cop. All that time wasted, driving a long time, to get someone on a call and it turns out to be false...No thanks! I could go grocery shopping than waste time in a car for nothing...But I commend them on their patience and tolerance on false calls/reports.
When you can hear the unit rattling as it gets to the destination, - it's time to fix those potholes, Mr. Mayor!
The officer had great reflexes! People need to move to get out of the way when possible. That was a lot of stress over someone's misinterpretation of a situation. I think if I were going to call on something like that I would have gotten out of my car first and try to really assess the situation.
That was a long response.
That's what she said

Yes, emergencies only!! There was one woman who called about her neighbors putting garbage on the sidewalk.
Thats on you brotha for not stopping at that light where the truck about hit you, or slowing down enough. That coulda been your job there. Or a life. Respect otherwise but id say that was totally on yal that time.
I'm so glad I decided to fast forward through this. It's not even about a lost man with dementia! 🙄
That's the point
So basically, it's a joke, then? Because all I see is a homeless man pan handling! 🥴 Dementia isn't something to joke about. 🤦🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️
If she was so concerned about his safety she should have checked on him. I thought she may have been driving and could stop but from the your reply comment she was still nearby. It's a shame that some people feel everyone around them is a threat and her good deed was to call 911.
It's a shame we live in a world where criminals get to do whatever they want, so they're always back on the street. Shoot, I tell my mom not to ever open her door for anyone unless she knows them well. Worlds a dangerous place but you gotta take risks as well. But people need to admit criminals are taking over not just the country but the mindsets of people. It's cool to be a felon right now... Tell me how THATS the world we live in.

Oh man that Made my heart stop when that truck nearly collided with the officer I'm surprised that's all the officer said
OK I am not a fan of cops but as someone that worked in EMS for 25 years, it is freaking irritating no one will pull over for someone that is coming with lights and siren
Just wow,dispatch! 😮
Many years ago I called on a senior cause they were in the median of the highway. They where kinda running towards traffic and then back into the median. The 911 operator ask me a few question. Like does he appear confused ect. My answer was I am not a doctor, I drive a semi and I don’t need to get into a accident. There is no car parked on the shoulder. There is no houses around, there is hotels. It doesn’t seam like a good idea to cross a four lane highway because you’re craving Mcdonald’s: when you are overweight and older.
Oh well, may as well have a coffee and some donuts instead

Wondering if the caller was actually concerned for his well being, or was just annoyed he was at the intersection pandering with a sign?
Why is he driving like there’s a robbery or another officer shot
That caller should have been charged for calling 911 for nothing. 😮
That's a false report and she should be. What a weirdo Karen
Right, so the next time something happens she won't call. You have no idea what her interaction was like with that man.
@@adammiller9179 and u don't either. It was probably her yelling at him and him ignoring
Why would any cop drive like this for some old man walking in a circle??? He’s creating more problems than the supposed dementia guy.
'Murica
The caller made it seem like the man was in the road. The office was trying to prevent him from being accidentally killed. I had an aunt with dementia. She went out walking but thankfully my sister was driving by and saw her. She was in the street in her pajamas.
Oh my God, you got idiot drivers in that city that don’t know what to do when a police officer is behind them with their lights and sirens
This woman called in & lied because she was angry that he was asking for money. She probably tried to pull a Karen on him and when he didn't immediately follow her orders to stop, she thought if law enforcement rushed to him fast with an untrue story, be would get in trouble for panhandling!
I almost witnessed a accident by a Franklin township patrol car and a driver who didn't pull to the right and stop at demorest and clime roads. The patrol car slammed on the brakes barley missing him.
It amazes me how many people did not do right for sirens and lights, including a semi who always complains when people do not give them enough space when on the shoulder. Hopefully you guys have plate numbers for stupid people like this.
LEO is probably going 3X the speed limit, it kind of reduces reaction time a little bit for other drivers.
That caller need to be fine or charge.
she should be arrested for a false report, all that wasted time running over there risking head ons and collisions putting his life on the line just for what? a bogus call
That's the closest car? Ummm ok then.
In every comment section theres always a couple keyboard warriors that think they know how to do an officers job because they watched a video! I'd love to have them recorded at work and critiqued by the viewers..if they have a job!
When i was with 911 we would get the most pathetic, nosey, and non emergent calls. It was so frustrating
so no one thought the driving was erratic and dangerous. for the nature of the call. breaking speed limits, blowing thru intersection, wrong side of the road, almost a wreck. but its the woman that called fault? to me very puzzling anthology for the totality of the circumstances.
When I was probably 12 or 13, I found a guy with dementia in his underwear on his wheelchair while I was delivering newspapers. It was a super cold January day in northern Wisconsin. I remember having a full face mask on, so it had damn cold out because I was usually too cool for that! I found out when he was young he lived in a house across town and thought he was heading home.
Unlike this case, the elderly man you encountered actually needed help.
How frustrating! You needed a few cats behind you to ticket those that didn't get outta your way.
Jump to 5:35 to avoid several minutes of driving.
That was the best part.
Thanks!
Thanks
The driving is the main part of the video. The cop drives like an a$$, almost colliding with cars multiple times. It's not like the call was for an active shooter.
@@adammiller9179 We suspect that you work at Dollar General and drive Uber in your spare time. What you saw were the vagaries of driving code. Go back to sleep.

Im really so sick of these weird ass people that call 911!!! They should be charged

where did the dog go ? 😂
What did i just watch?
I'm giving the caller the benefit of doubt and just glad the officer arrived safely and all ended well. Just be sure of your facts before using 911 or call the non emergency helpline. To all drivers, get the hell out of the way of emergency vehicles as safely and quickly as possible. The comments here today are quite brutal, even officer Ben sounds grumpy. 😂😂😂😂 Have a great weekend everyone.
Waist of 911 resourses is a FELONY!
should've asked the caller "does he look act and talk like the current president of USA?" if the answer was yes then yeah it's dementia :P that homeless guy was nowhere near dementia status. just homeless. don't even have to be a doctor to tell. also y would they need police for a dementia patient? it's a medical issue! call ambulance! the EMTs r far more qualified to deal with it
cop should have gave him money lol
Police departments have non-ER lines for a reason 🤦🏻♀️
Ok, that was weird.
That wasn’t a call worthy of all that high speed driving even if caller was correct
No, a dude with altered mental status wandering onto a busy highway full of drivers on their phones and such absolutely warrants an emergency response, because it's an immediate and imminent threat to life.
The caller exaggerated the entire scenario. Guy probably tripped and didn't want to be bothered and she had to be high and mighty.
There was no need for the cop to driving so fast, the old guy was not bleeding.
How fast was he driving? What scientific speed detection system were you using?

Q1 when did pulling to the side of the road for lights & sirens stop being a thing?
Q2 why isnt either the city or cpd filing charges on the callers of these false reports?
Q2a isnt that a crime?

The cop did not have to drive like that ffs. It was not a robbery in progress.
The narrator shouldn’t have said what he did in the beginning unless he is 200 percent familiar with Dementia. You’re reprimanding a person who is just being a concerned citizen who wants to check in on the well being of an individual. The cop didn’t need to drive so recklessly.
