Hi mate, seen your studying psychology just wondering what do you aspire to go into for work after university and are you doing a work placement year ?

Hi mate, hope you’ve been well.
Yes I study Psychology with Criminology. Funnily enough I speak about the response to your question in a video set to come out next week based around being a second year at Loughborough.
Having just finished 2nd year I’m doing a placement this year via the Year in Enterprise route offered at Loughborough University rather than the traditional placement. This provides me the opportunity to start up my own business.
For my business (Jamie Clark Productions) I am a documentary filmmaker who shines a light on the crucial, yet unknown, issues prevalent in our world. I have recently returned from Thailand where I filmed my first documentary (releasing January 2023), uncovering the devastating story of the endangered Asian elephants of Thailand.
Therefore my plan for work after university is to have established myself as a full time documentary filmmaker (originally I was set to follow the more traditional route and become a detective). My ultimate aspiration for the business is to make a positive difference to as many people’s lives as possible by helping others and inspiring a generation to protect our world before it’s too late.
If you have any other questions feel free to ask.
      All the best
      - Jamie

Sorry for only just getting back to you, firstly Thank you for the in-depth reply also I am looking at Loughborough as a potential first choice myself and studying psychology with a placement year at the moment I think I am interested in going into more of the workplace side of psychology maybe HR, industrial/ organisational psychology etc
However I do enjoy the criminal and sport side of psychology as a general interest would you recommend doing the double honours with the sport psychology or criminology as I think I would have more enjoyment studying these double honours but don’t want it to close off potential job opportunity.
Also, good luck with the business idea sounds really cool.

@@lawrence1722 I wouldn't have said doing a joint honours would close off any potential job opportunities (one of many reasons I opted to do a joint honours). You would only potentially be narrowing options down if you chose a single honours like sports psychology instead of straight psychology, but this certainly wouldn't put you at a disadvantage as a lot of modules are similar in first year across the different psychology degrees and you could opt to do a masters to specialise further.
From the sound of things I would potentially consider you look into the joint honours psychology with criminology especially as the degree is weighted 2/3 psychology and 1/3 criminology. Or if you were to opt for a single honours degree perhaps straight psychology rather than sports psychology for the field you want to specialise in. However, any of the psychology degree options will provide a great first step for the career route you are interested. You can always get in touch with the psychology department to discuss further as ultimately they will provide you with a further insight and level of advisory experience (their contact details are at the bottom of this link www.lboro.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/courses/psychology/)
Hope this helps - if there is anything you are unsure on just let me know.
Thank you for your good luck message and all the best!
