  • While an accelerated nursing program might seem unfamiliar compared to a traditional four-year nursing program, it provides many benefits that may fit your needs and lifestyle. With Averett’s Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program, you can graduate as a fully prepared nurse in as few as 16 months. ABSN students Aliyah and Lindsey explain how.
For individuals who want to become nurses but have previous college experience, another four years in school is likely not ideal. Averett’s ABSN program leverages your previous credits in a non-nursing degree program toward your prerequisites to help you finish the nursing program more quickly.
“I did not want to go back to school for four years for nursing, and having this as an option was very appealing to me,” Aliyah says.
The Averett ABSN program’s accelerated nature is not at the expense of any valuable nursing education. The accelerated nursing program provides the same foundational knowledge and hands-on experiences as a traditional program.
This is done by combining online didactic learning with on-campus skills and simulation labs and in-person clinical rotations. Students apply what they learn in their online courses to nursing practice with manikins and actual patients in a clinical setting.
It allows you to have a wide variety of hands-on practice as a nurse. Lindsey says it “gives you a good baseline to start with many different experiences and clinicals. There are many different options, but many different career choices and pathways in nursing.”
Aliyah says when she visited the learning site, she found it to be a positive environment conducive to learning.
“Everyone was very welcoming and friendly,” she says. “They want us to succeed and help us get where we wanted to be.”
