  • In the Averett University Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program, people around you always want to help and support you through the complex process of becoming a nurse. It is one of the best resources for how to succeed in nursing school. ABSN students Aliyah and Lindsey share the impact this had on their experience.
Nursing is a high-stakes field, and the students who enter it must be highly qualified. As such, any nursing program will come with challenges. Because the ABSN program is on a shortened timeline, these challenges come more rapidly.
“It is a lot of work. It’s a lot of stress in your life for a very short time,” Lindsey says.
However, your instructors are passionate about your success and are readily available to help.
“Take advantage of having the time that you do have what your instructors - whether it be your clinical instructors or your didactic instructors,” Aliyah says. “Because at the end of the day, they’re all here to help you succeed.”
For Lindsey, being surrounded by supportive peers and friends made a big difference in her success.
“You have to find the people that are going to help you through that, whether that’s people you’ve befriended when you enter the program or people from home that are going to support you and make sure you are on track,” she says.
You may even graduate alongside peers who become your friends beyond nursing school and into your career.
“I have lifelong friends from this program,” Lindsey says. “That’s one of the best things I’ve gained overall.”
Even though the nursing program is challenging, the support and friendship you gain help make it possible.
