  • In this video we have Matt Ryks help out a friend with his kikuyu and buffalo to show off the Greenworks 40V battery dethatcher.
    Although we have only used the dethatcher cartridge you can see how impressive this results are on a thick kikuyu and buffalo. (Go easy with buff by the way, a '0' setting is about as deep as you want it to go.)
    The results are brilliant and the Greenworks 40V did the duties of sucking up the excess material.
    The battery will last quite a while but estimate that you may need to recharge after about 150m2, if you are starting at a higher level of cut and gradually going deeper into the sward and the start of the soil profile.
    If you are looking at a skin, battery and charger package for the Greenworks Dethatcher/Scarifier, it is about $649 at your local Greenworks dealer.
    checkout www.greenworksaustralia.com for more information.
    Get your lawn on, we will be doing more Greenworks videos int the near future.

    I bought and used one for a large yard for a customer. Blue couch and prepped to 15mm.
    Used the scarifier and it was brilliant. I had it on nought /zero setting for height. It chugged along on a hot day and performed really well. I only had two batteries so a third would work better. But that was my largest yard so next time I'll prep and scarify each section and recharge the battery. That way I'll get better flow of work. Keep in mind it was hot and the battery needed to cool down for 40mins then add 120 mins recharge time.
    Can't wait to use it again. I want to try it on my Palmetto out the front.

    The dethatcher is the Generation 1, with a 14-inch dethatching width, a brushed motor, and the height adjustment lever on the right. On Gen. 2 (2023), the dethatching width is 15 inches, the motor is brushless, and the lever is on the left. The Gen. 2 is probably better, but replacement parts are more readily available for Gen. 1.

      That’ll be an absolute monster. The 60V gear is certainly the sweet spot of the range in terms of power and functionality.

    Any idea which battery the dethatcher uses? Gen1 or the Gen2 (GMax)?
    And which is compatible with the Allett Liberty 43 cylinder mower?

    Good info on the Greenworks gear. Only thing is how much charge was left in the battery, would you recommend it on 200-300m2 lawns.

    • @mattyr85
      @mattyr85 Před 2 lety

      I mow normally 280sqm and use under 1 battery. Dethatcher uses a bit dependent on how thick it os

    • @lawnporn
      @lawnporn  Před 2 lety

      Have a look in the description. You may need 1 charge because it is a brutal process it takes some power. But 1 charge for a 300m lawn wouldn’t deter me.
      We will do a charge test if we can find another lawn about that size

    • @mattyr85
      @mattyr85 Před 2 lety +1

      Hi, I’m the guy who tested it. I found it easier compared to the sawmi as it’s cordless, it’s also got more steps for adjustments so that helps too. Price is $649 incl battery and charger. Batteries take a couple of hours to charge and can get 150-180sqm of light dethatching out of one battery

      Actually one should never scalp or dethatch buffalo unless it is in really poor condition. I just use my little Victa and drop it from notch 6 to 4 over a couple of weeks - I never go lower (and one of my lawns was 20 years old.)

    Not a fan of the electric equipment I tried it for a whole year and it’s not powerful or sustainable enough to use for over 10 properties. Other than that it is quiet and all but not sure why there is not self propel on the mower.
