Ayaneo keeps developing its handheld without stopping for a moment to know if the previous ones run well. I'm talking from perspective of the Windows side right now. I pray they could stop for a moment by the time they release Pocket Air (Android perspective)

Ayaneo Taco - Looks like a taco and can be used to cooke tacos, but only on Taco Tuesdays
Ayaneo Raiden - Has the biggest battery, quickest recharge and uses the most wattage and could be used as a microwave
Ayaneo Godzilla - The biggest Ayaneo ever, a 27 inch screen that isn't portable for any normal person and is only portable for Godzilla sized users
Ayaneo Cat - Comes with an advanced AI and OS that acts just like a cat, specifically Garfield. Designed for masochists who like to be belittled and bullied by cats. Also gives a weekly reminder on how it hates Mondays.
Ayaneo Jesus - Claims to be the second coming Jesus in portable form and will always tell you the right thing to do.
Ayaneo Ayaneo - An Ayaneo that has an Ayaneo within it incase you want to technically say you're playing on 2 consoles at the moment
Ayaneo Cardboard - An eco friendly and recycle friendly Ayaneo device that uses 0 internet and electricity as it can't turn on. It requires the user to have amazing imagination and it's the cheapest Ayaneo for the most frugal of users being at an amazing $200!
And this is only the ones coming out in 2024! In 2025 they will be 3 times more 😮😮😮😂

This is purely a luxury buy. I don't think i could ever justify spending this much on a handheld. Steam Deck makes sense. ROG Ally makes sense, especially as it can pull double duty as a competent desktop replacement. But this thing ... man, for that kind of money you can just get so much more.

For the 4TB/64GB model, I would agree.
However, for the 1Tb/32gb early bird of 1100 USD, I think it makes a kind of sense.
Much bigger battery, capable of double-sided m.2280 drives, really awesome color reproduction for the screen (trade off, not being 120hz vrr), USB 4 ports for lower entrance cost of eGPU (albeit lower performance compared to Rog XG stuff).
If you bought a Rog Ally, power bank, and 2 Tb external hard drive, the total is creeping north of 900 USD.
I'm not saying a Kun makes sense in all situations, but it isn't quite the fast and easy rejection when you add up what you have to do to make other hand helds in to a comparable experience.

Honestly, for their highest tier sku, I was expecting $2K, so I guess I can understand the price.
If you feel like this device is too expensive, you probably think the highest end Alienware is too expensive, too. And that's fine, but it isn't unreasonable, this device just isn't for everyone, it's for those who want the top of the top, best of the best, and are willing to pay for it.
I, personally, really like it, and I'm super impressed that one can buy a handheld gaming PC with 64 gigs of ram. That's insane.
I'll be keeping my eye on this as an upgrade to my ROG Ally. For that one, RAM is the only real drawback of it, not to mention how great it would be to have a device with 4TB of storage in it, too.

Circle D-Pads should, in theory, be a far better thing to have, so they should get better if more attention is payed, or options to swap out for different styles to suit. There is no doubt that this is a very competent device but it should be at that price. Whilst out of the price range of many, it is a pointer to what is to come later, which will also be cheaper. At this price, use as more than just a gaming device may come to many a mind to justify the cost. The screen looks gorgeous.

Thanks for the review. The Rog Ally is 699$, the base model for the Kun 512gb and 16gb RAM is 999$. Screen is better in some ways, you're getting 4 back buttons (although size and placement is questionable), hall sticks and triggers,.2 touch pads,. facial recognition,. bigger screen,.bigger battery, brighter screen, multiple IO, and better cooling system maybe (hard to say how it holds up over time) so it's not unreasonable pricing. If you have an eGPU already you can take advantage of that 54W. Not sure how the chip will hold over time. That stand looks flimsy and wonder if it will hold up. Using the Ally and switch, touch pads aren't necessary for me, windows work well with touch. D-pad isn't an issue since I don't use it much. But the benefit of this device is using that battery at similar watts as the Ally used to save battery. Performance will be the same but longer battery life. You can also get an eGPU cheaper than the XG mobiles. After all that it's a bummer it's so hard to get in. The back buttons are iffy ergonomics. Looking at their product page the bump in performance,3-10 FPS depending on game, between 30-54W isn't worth the price/fps. Agree with emulation but I think this device would be good for cloud and stream gaming as well. I think there's a lot of extras here quality wise ( sticks,. triggers,. screen,. touch pads,.4 rear buttons) that makes it an ok buy over the Ally. If you want VRR use an external monitor/TV (most ppl have one) with VRR. I don't think you get this for the 54W TDP,. You get it for the screen but more so the battery life, playing at the low wattages and settings that ppl are playing on the Ally. I would've kept the RAM at 16gb and offered 512gb/1TB SSD and then 32gb RAM with 512gb/1TB to keep prices down let ppl upgrade storage themselves and then offer a dGPU for a higher price..64gb RAM is overkill,. maybe 32gb too,. especially when this thing will be outdated by time games require that much RAM on a handheld.. looks interesting,.wait until other reviews come out but might be worth waiting for a deeper sale or finding it on eBay

This reminds me of the Neo-Geo system that came out many moons ago. The graphics were the same you would find in an arcade. What killed it: the price of the gaming cartridge which at the time was over 100 bucks which was insane for a gaming cartridge. This handheld looks great and has nice specs but I'm not sure who this is designed for. Nice gaming laptops can be had for the same price point as the top in unit here. I'm sure folks will buy this device but for many people, the price point will put this out of reach.

It sounds like it's kind of too heavy for laying down and the loo is not ideal for hard to replace electronics.

If you do own a PC, and just want a handheld to go with it, you can buy a Steamdeck, or ROG Ally, and still have enough money left over to make a huge upgrade to your rig, or buy the monitor of your dreams.

Have you seen any battery throttling on either the KUN or any other Ayaneo devices, possibly at higher TDPs? My Geek throttles after 30 minutes on battery if I'm using 25W or above. Being plugged in prevents it. The wattage drops to 8W and clocks to 400 MHz, but I was always below 80 degrees on the chip. It doesn't seem to happen at 22W.
I've had decent experiences with AYANEO so far but if I can only get 30 minutes on battery from a $1000 device then what gives
EDIT: I guess with your verdict on the power scaling, higher TDPs aren't as important. Would still want to confirm that it won't throttle at a somewhat elevated TDP though, 22W or above.

Honestly all I really want is a Steam Deck version with this kind of colour reproduction. 720p for me is fine as I find on smaller screens internal rendering resolution is more important than output resolution in terms of showing off finer details and reducing aliasing. That's not saying higher screen resolution doesn't look better--especially for a device exceeding that 8" mark--but for the power constraints that are going to continue to be a constant issue with handhelds, I'd probably choose 720p into the future just to allow the devices to ramp up more of those detail settings and framerates.

@@Yixdy - Yeah, it's a bargain basement IPS screen. Even budget laptops and tablets five or six years ago had better colour reproduction than the Deck, so you're only getting a portion of the basic colours that games are meant to display. It's considerably worse than the first gen Switch, which has far better sRGB coverage.
I'm assuming it's because when the deck was being released Valve didn't have many panel options to choose from with that size and resolution, but it'll be my primary reason for upgrading when an upgraded Deck comes around.
