That's always been his real name. It was in his bio at the Mortal Kombat 1992 Prologue comic written by John Tobias.
Remembering him being John Carlton makes the Dorkly joke of Johnny Cage sounding like a name of pornstar sounds more legit.

I like how this Johnny is a goofy cocky bastard, but he's not dumb. He's very knowledgeable about what he owns down to its history, and when shit gets. serious he wises up and man's up.

In 9, Johnny acts like the comic relief, but by the end of 9 onwards, he goes through a lot of character development especially when he becomes a dad and then years later divorce Sonya to focus on raising Cassie alone. (Not sure if you've read the MKX comics, but it's either shown or at least mentioned that Johnny had to celebrate Cassie's 1st birthday without Sonya, who is apparently too obsessed with her work and not spending time with her family)

And we learn in the MKX prequel comics, and MK11, and this game through that one dialogue with Bi-Han that him and his father did not get along with the reason being at least according to the MKX Prequel comics, and MK11 Johnny's dad was a successful businessman who was according to Johnny "a asshole who focused more on work and making money, then spending time with him, and his mom. and that Johnny's dad would on multiple occasions promise to be there for Johnny on important dates like his birthdays, and the various youth martial arts tournaments he competed in but would always break them because he cared more about work and making money, and every time Johnny called him out on sucking as a dad who cared more about work and making money then being a good dad Johnny's dad would respond by calling him "a ungrateful spoiled brat throwing a tantrum about not being the center of attention."

Eitheir he meets up with Sonya or Cristina becomes Cassie's Mom in this universe. If that is the case, Cristina could've never told Johnny about Cassie, who later joined the military and served under Sonya Blade. Needless to say, Johnny would've realized that how much he messed up by letting the fame get to his head rather than think about spending a normal life with Chris and being a father, needless to say it would've helped Johnny really mature as a character, much like he did in the previous timeline.

Dummies will act like Johnny and Sonya had some kind of epic romantic relationship, when all it did is make Sonya a worse person. At the very least it gave us Cassie but now she's gone, so the one good thing from that relationship is gone.

Yeah. Although having a short screen time, she’s probably a more interesting character than Sonya. Before MKX, Sonya used to be this “sexy femme fatale” type of character, but now she’s just a boring hardworking female soldier.
But I don’t think Cristina needs to be a playable character. She seems to be just an innocent civilian. There is no lore explanation that she can fight.

Now, Kuai Liang's "friend" (cof cof) would be interesting as totally new character. I would like her more than having 3 guest characters in the pack.
At the end of his hopefully canon Arcade Tower Ending he quits acting and goes into producing and convinces Liu Kang and probably Empress Mileena into letting him getting a movie about their adventure greenlit as a way to not only start a cinematic universe and get rich, but also as a way to help the people of Earthrealm get used to the magic, inhabitants, and creatures of Outworld.
Ironically, he fits more to directing and producing movies. He fits the aging and a throwback to his arcade ending in Deadly Alliance.
His arcade ending is canon. The arcade endings are Epilogues for every character showing what became of them after MK1 main storyline.
So Johnny did become a movie director and made a successful career creating the Mortal Kombat series in this new Mortal Kombat timeline but currently majority thinks it is all fiction for now.
Though certain governments are becoming aware about this being real as shown in Kenshi ending when Kenshi met Jax (in this timeline he works in the FBI) and help found the paranormal division for the FBI.
They're canon endings for Titan LK Timeline Characters that's basically their epilogue after the Main Story Ending.

Every arcade ending is canon. They all take place at the same time except for a couple of them.
Sindel's takes place during the main story
Rain's ending takes place after Havik's
Sub-Zero's ending takes place before Shang Tsung's and Shao's endings take place before Kitana's which takes place before Reiko's
Li Mei's ending takes place before Reptile's, which takes place before Baraka's, which takes place at the same time as Mileena's
Scorpion's ending takes place before Smoke's
Johnny Cage's ending takes place before Kenshi's

You know one thing i can commend about Johnny is that he's not an abuser, he really loves Chris but he's just too self absorbed. Unlike other dudes who are self absorbed to the point that they abuse their significant other and control their life just because they think too highly of themselves. Here Johnny respects Chris but not himself.
I like that this johnny is not a brat like the old one. He feels like a celebrity, jokes around but also cares about people. Also proves his worth when its time

I always liked Johnny's development and how raiden (earth realm protector version) and liu kang (current god version) both basically say he's a slhero and he hasnt realised it yet.
He's that annoying guy who thinks hes funny, cocky etc but deep down is a very good person and eventually wise up, becoming an excellent role model (once het starts realising how everything is really serious). He's great at fighting and he really cares. It also takes a lot for him being the cocky individual to eventually mellow and admit what he has done before is wrong. You literally see how annoyed mid age johnny was with his past self and how he scolds his past self.
As an audience i like both versions. The cocky young cage was funny in my eyes and how he hits a nerve on others. The wise up version is a nice mature guy who can help and guide others etc
To be fair, Johnny’s arrogance was not without validation. Especially when he took down a Yakuza who just recently left the gang and the leader of an ancient clan of assassins rooted in China. The stuff on a movie set is one thing, but the last 2 are something to brag about.
Honestly, this is going to be an unpopular opinion but Johnny's relationship with Christina already has miles more chemistry than he ever had with Sonya in my opinion. Chris genuinely loved and appreciated him but couldnt take the man she loved becoming more self absorbed and spiraling down hill. I wish they could have worked out their problems. Sonya seemed to dislike him intensely for 80% of the time they were in proximity of each other. I honestly want him to be with someone other than Sonya this time around.
I think that's the point of Johnny and Sonya's relationship: they weren't compatible and parted ways because they were incompatible.
But Christina does look like someone who genuinely cares and worries for Johnny. I like her.

They need to maybe get Johnny and Christina back together in the sequel. Or maybe have him date a different girl.
I liked Sonya/Johnny but yeah, they weren't a very good couple. I honestly don't think Sonya disliked him. She acted like she did though, probably because she was embarrassed by him. Which is almost worse. But I thought Sonya's story of struggling to just enjoy things and love people, not to mention her commit issues to anything other than the military, was interesting. And Johnny struggling to hold together a marriage and raise Cassie almost on his own was pretty sad but also had an interesting effect on his character. Despite how unhappy they often made each other, I think them getting back together after the divorce was sweet and a sign that they both learned to be content and put family and their daughter over their own bullshit problems. Ultimately, I don't mind Johnny and Sonya dodging all the drama this time around. But I do think it's fucking tragic that that means Cassie will be erased from existence. Both Johnny and Sonya would go through a lifetime of sorrow in order to protect her.
When MK facial animation is superior than starfield. NRS has one of the best facial animations in the video game industry.

I always have a huge respect for Johnny. He's always upfront about who he is and why. Especially to ppl who really know him.

He doesn't give up. Whether he should or not is debatable.
He knew how to run the showbiz and was correct. He knew what to do and the structure. He was waiting for his paycheck. She didn't get it. He is also doing this to push himself forward and not be complacent. There are some people in this world that need the red-line to appear in order to keep focus and not forget about *why the hard work is there* . He has a hard time with motivation and staying on task, so he needs a bit of a yelling at.

Here is an idea for the next Mortal Kombat game story. Since Jax is confirmed to be FBI it stands to reason that Sonya is FBI as well. How about (for whatever reason) the Black Dragon target Johnny and kill Christina and Sonya is assigned to the case then She and Johnny grow close.
Unless there was something that the Black Dragon got tied in, to killing Christina, like say, whatever was of value to putting into their black market, or something to due with a debt that cost her life, or maybe wrong time and wrong place.

My idea:
Red Dragon will be an inter-realm terrorist organisation and planning to unleash Tarkat to Earthrealm, creating ground zero near New York (I wish we could have playable Stryker and Kabal in the future). OIA will investigate and ruin their plan.
Would've been nice if Sonya in MK11 was more like that one intro with herself where she said "I don't give a DAMN about my reputation." That one felt like she actually cared like Chris did.

Kenshi, Liu Kang, Tomas, Kuai Liang, Raiden, Reptile and Ashrah hold a supportive group for Johnny who says he's fine then soon will break down and tell him how Christina let him go. I can see him getting the support and might need Kenshi's shoulder to cry on.

Johnny is my favorite character, I hope if he ever finds someone else things will work out. I loved how he becomes more humble and selfless throughout the story.

The thing with Johnny divorce came from the old comics based on the firts game that was write by John Tobias, in there Johnny was divorce and I dont remember if he had kids or not, also his popularity was decreasing like in this game.
She realized he was broke, so she divorced him, and took whatever he had left... bruh

Johnny has a lot of personal growth in MK1, so a lot of these suggestions about how the future might play out make sense. This is how I see it. Johnny decides to live a smaller life, becoming a director and taking smaller acting jobs on the side, for fun and to pay the bills. He sells the mansion along with a lot of the crap he bought, and buying a smaller, but still classy apartment, it is still Johnny Cage after all. He and Christina talk it out, but agree that it’s never going to work, and remain friends. He eventually meet a beautiful marine biologist named Sonya Blade. Even though she is dismissive at first of the idea of dating a celebrity, she decides to give him a chance after he shows his ego has also downsized. They eventually fall in love, get married and have a daughter named Cassandra. In this timeline, as Cassie grows she decides to become a police officer, where she meets two people who become her closest friends, Jackie Briggs and Takeda Takahashi. If she becomes a cop, she would still learn hand to hand combat and how to use firearms, excelling in police defence classes on her own merit and not because of who her father is. So she would have both her parents looks, her mothers intelligence and kindness, and her fathers martial arts proficiency and sense of humour. I think that if they did decide to bring Sonya and Cassie into things, this new backstory might work for this timeline.

As the saying goes, 'If you don't love at my worst, you don't deserve me at my best'. They made vows to accept each other at their worst. She left him at his worst. That should tell you everything you need to know about her.
Chris is probably going to be absolutely jealous and regret leaving Johnny when she found out that he had became a successful director of a cinematic universe based on his adventures and ended up with either Sonya, Kitana or Li Mei

That sorta burden doesn't leave much room for learning how to be a family woman, especially with how much her military life has shaped her into someone with expectations to get the job done no matter what. So I don't think she's intentionally being toxic. She's just...out of her element when it comes to family stuff.

I mean... Cris wasn't wrong at all. And she could've still been good for the man John Carlton was, and the Johnny Cage became. And I think he knows it, too. It's just that they weren't right for each other through that particular hardship, and thys may not have lasted through many more. I'd like to believe they may eventually become amicable, though.
It's the tragic reality for what Hollywood can do to people. The expectations Johnny had on his shoulders, his desperation to keep clinging to his fame as it's the one thing allowing him to live the good life, and of course the need to project his success given how superficial Hollywood often is, especially nowadays. Cris realized how he was letting it all change him for the worse. He wasn't John Carlton anymore. He was letting his Hollywood name overtake the man she loved. And his coping mechanism, chugging shot after shot of alcohol to try and keep his mind off of the grim reality of his life falling apart all around him, didn't help things. Johnny knew it too, but couldn't bear to look at it for what it was until Cris walked out on him.
Cris: “I didn’t marry Johnny Cage! I married John Carlton!”
MK Franchise: “John Carton’s dead, live with it!”
I am no therapist. But I suspect that what is going on with Johnny in the mansion is less about his career and more about self-esteem. If he doesn't keep up the opulent life style then he isn't Johnny Cage anymore. If he isn't Johnny Cage anymore, then he is just John Carlton. But he doesn't like John Carlton.

Hmmm I still prefer Johnny & Sonya as the definitive canon couple I mean the results were pretty much perfection which is Cassie Cage (I still kinda miss her even though it wasn’t that long since the last game and not to mention she no longer exists in Liu Kang’s timeline) but who knows maybe in the future both Johnny & Sonya will probably hook up again (hopefully lol) so that Cassie will exist again 😁😌👍

For MKII I can see Lui Kang getting involved with special forces making a task force to monitor the universe for any new universal threats. The Shirai Ryu and Shoalin get introduced to SF and they all tell Johnny that they love riffing on his movies but Sonia says she actually likes them and fangirls out a bit. Sort of have Sonia start off a little more likw Cassie and she eventually grows into the cold soldier throughout MKII.
