  • Welcome to the maaaaaain event.
For weeks now, those of us in Northern California have been marking off the days on the calendar as we awaitied the return of UP's steam program to Donner Pass. UP arrived in style behind the UP 844 towing three diesels and the passenger fleet as it heads west to take part in UPRR's 150th birthday celebration.

excellent video production! I'm working on a documentary about the WPRR. My father worked from 1915 until 1961 with the WP. He was store keeper at Elko, Winnamucca and Portola at the same time in the 1930's and rode these same rails in your beautiful video. I have many photos, documents and stories from my father I hope to produce into a short doc.

Great work! Great shots of the train, varied backgrounds and angles, I love the classic signal bridge with searchlight signals at the opening. Thank you!

Thats one heck of a telephoto lense, nice filming too, now if we could only get rid of the GE locomotive and keep the EMDs

Wow! Loved that, the long zoom shots exaggerating the curves, dips and bends in the track, that mournful whistle, superb!
But tell me, just how much assistance were those diesels giving on the climb? Three units seemed a little OTT for the load and 844 appeared not to be working too hard...

haven't steam engines generally been able to hold their own, especially the 844?
