- Union Pacific 844 as seen along the Lincoln Highway Centennial Weekend Celebration
June 29th the old cars were eastbound and the Iron Horse was westbound. This is from Potter to Dix - Auta a dopravní prostředky
I've run out of new videos to watch but reruns are just as fun. Union Pacific 844 and 3985 are a true joy to behold. Can't wait to see 4014 is back online.
It brought tears to my eyes. The sound of those old locomotives is what I grew up with and even miss now. At the time, those smokey, noisy things were a nuisance. Now as rare as they are, I can't get enough of them. Dad was a UP employee, so that has a lot to do with it. UP, please keep up your efforts to bring back Challenger and Big Boy - don't let us old timers down. And, thanks for keeping 844 going.
You have my vote for video of the year. It is masterfully crafted with a fantastic combination of sight and sound. The visuals are stunning especially during the high speed run. It also has the additional value of replicating a bygone era as your camera tracks the locomotive through the small towns. A superior video any way you look at it!
Pure Heaven!.
The sound from an old steam locomotive is just incredible . Great video !
Awesome video footage, of A historic American Idol

I enjoy watching and seeing the 844. I love that whistle. It runs so smooth. I try to see it as often as I can.
Great to see her without a dieselhelper. All hail the living legend 844 !
I asked the Lube crew today and he said it was a, Paraffin Wax base high in molybdenum and sulfur.
Open fields and rolling skies and this magic beast!.
Took a little to get going, and then it was just roaring !!
Thanks again. Loved it !!
Haha thanks! And stay tuned, because you miiight just see some familiar faces on the head-end equipment of this year's Cheyenne Frontier Days train as well ;-)
I saw this monster as it went through San Antonio and Austin TX but I forgot just how HUGE it is. The driving wheels tower above the men lubricating them---WOW! And to think this marvel of mechanical engineering was accomplished WITHOUT the aid of computers or robot assembly; just human brain and muscle. Truly a thing of beauty.
It is great......
your comments are the reward, thanks
2:16-2:17 boys, she's getting impatient, might wanna hurry up XD
I love Union Pacific 844
I was thinking more of how they hold up in the hi speed winds. Hey, maybe someone should try to get that diner on Food Networks, Diner, Drive-ins & Dives, those onion rings looked good.

If the removed light in question was a Mars light, it got taken off due to the condition of the bolts holding it in place.
pure epicness.
"Fill 'er up and please check the oil and wiper fluid!"
hey I was riding in the tool car for this one! Nice video Skip!
It's interesting how once people went by train because of the journey, now they go by train because of the train.
Awesome video! Good job!:)

Honestly. I like it better with out the red emergency light hanging out right above the headlight. Never understood why it was put there in the first place.
Up 844 at potter ne
Nice... I wonder how many flags they go through...
Up 844 high speeds fast to steam shop
Better check those yard sales along US30
Awasome i wish i could be there...but i dont live in USA
don't they use zinc or lead in that lube? would think it would help with the extreme friction on the rotating gear
you lucky man
I am guessing but, 23 states across the western two-thirds of the United States
this train could do 100MPH easily but i think they wont allow it anymore for some reason? i think the tracks can still handle it though.
FRA rules these days restrict most trains to a maximum speed of 79 mph. There are numerous sub-rules that I won't go into. I have heard credible reports of 844 reaching over 110 mph "back in the day", before the new rules were implemented.
Gr8 video indeed..what must be the top speed of this train? .Is the furnace of the engine oil fired?
110mph and it burns on oil
Just noticed they have taken the Red Emergency headlight off the front end of UP 844.. Did they take it off before the UP-150 celebration last year, as I didn't see that many videos of the front end..?
rare shot without a diesel locomotive!
Wuh ow
For when you run out of superlatives
60mph is a lazy day of cruising and riding the rails. :-)
Looks like real thick grease logs the one man takes from the metal ammo can and feeds into the huge pneumatic grease gun
USA!
Better work on the bed and rails that set up can break 117 mph. mb
