Always remember when I was at an Ipswich match about 25 years ago. My dad had taken me to Portman Road. We are walking on the training pitch side and there I spot Bobby Robson. I was in awe of such an incredible man. He looked directly at my dad and said "Hello Bryan, I hope you're well" I couldn't believe it. My dad then told me he had fitted carpets at Bobbys sons house in felixestowe. He had even taken my dad to get an ice cream on the promenade as it was such a hot day. Bobby spilt his ice cream on his lap and my dad said "You'd never have made a goalkeeper would you Bobby" which apparently made him laugh. One thing I've heard recently is Bobby wasn't good at remembering people's names so for him to remember my dad and his name after all those years has astounded me even more.
Nothing i can add to all the wonderful words spoken in tribute to our beloved Sir Bobby Robson other than i was there. I'm the same age as the boys and met many of them and others . We were late teens early twenties they were playing football and i was manager of the Compasses Holbrook. I can now get a bit sentimental about that time and shed a tear or two but not sadness just happy . Johnnie Llewellyn . Till i die.
Sir Bobby spent 13 years at the club and in that time signed a grand total of 13 players. These days many clubs sign that number in a couple of transfer windows. He was fortunate to have a club chairman who backed him when things were very difficult for him at Ipswich. He was given time, and delivered the goods. I was lucky to grow up in a town whose football club had such a great manager. Roger Osborne is so modest; he knows he was no Cruyff but he scored the winning goal in an FA Cup final. Not many people have done that!
