@@selmateacher7 THANKS for putting an emphasis on the words 'case sensitive' because that's what did it. When I heard you stress case sensitive, it caused me to check to see what case was an 'O' is in the System Code...I did this by copying/pasting it in a word document. The capital 'O' was the problem. The board is now unlocked.

For Daniel for this great Detaied video, and for you Andreas for that "keyboard trick" :)
Because I use Hungaryan layout, so permanently press ` next to "1" key. because
on hungarian keyboard layot "0" means "ö" and " ' " means "0" is a very often used letter in our language so thats why is on there :)
And the Ctrl + Enter was another inportant info...
      I press only ENTER 2 or 3 times :)
      Thank you againg guys.

Mr. Berry: thank you, thank you, thank you. I have a very old Dell Inspiron 1600 Laptop that I purchased in 2006. I had to have the hard drive replaced about 5 years ago when the original no longer worked. At that time I had added an admin password to it, but I lost my record of the password. I was therefore completely locked out of the laptop. Thank God I found this instructional video of yours, showing me exactly, but very simply, how to Remove the existing password and get into my Setup to change the password. You have saved me so much aggravation and unnecessary expense. Thank you and God bless you.

I've tried all the combinations I could to avoid the mistakes of the "is it an l or a 1", enter, ctrl-enter, and so on and it hasn't worked on my dell latitude E5530 laptop. I am still locked out of my bios and can't flash it with what Dell says it needs (critical update they say). It is a descent laptop running windows 10 but everything I used to get it up and running I already had, except for the battery.
BTW, is that Selma near Reedley?

    • @selmateacher7
      @selmateacher7  Před rokem

Yes. it is Selma, next to Reedley. On some newer Dell models , we have had issues as well. BTW I was teaching at the adult schools in both Reedley and Selma, over 20 years. If you are familiar with RHS, I was in rooms, 701 and 707. Now back to the E5530, I understand that you tried everything. In those cases where everything was tried ..multiple times.. and still locked.. then I would call Dell support. transfer ownership to you and then they will give you the code to unlock the BIOS.

Thanks for getting back to me even though the thread was quite old. I will probably have to contact Dell then if I decide it's worth the hassle.
I am a RHS graduate, and also taught and retired from Parlier after 32 years but at the elementary level.
      Thanks again for your response.

@@MichaelPhillips-km2hf I wish Dell had a better solution than that. In class, almost all of the laptops that we receive via auctions will be unlocked as shown in the video. when that does not work, we have tried other ways, i.e. reset the BIOS, ... When that did not work , then we would be forced to contact Dell support, transfer ownership of the unit and then they would send a code. The last option took the most time, (on phone ) and was one of the reasons why it was the last option.

some units are harder to unlock than others. I would say try again as the ones looks like i or L and zeroes look like the letter O. Also some users try ctrl + ctrl + enter after keying in the code. You will find success eventually, because we have seen thousands of these in my classroom. Some do take a few tries. .

The dell laptop series I have is a Latitude E5440. I followed your instructions by pressing F2 immediately after turning on the power and the screen that came up is different than the one shown here. It has the same white box on the right with Settings, System Info. etc. but there’s no unlock button on the bottom of the page. Mine says Load Defaults, Apply (grayed out) and Exit. Any suggestions?

Whoa. I have not seen that message in any of the units that we service in our classroom. But this message may be caused by an external device that is connected to the computer.
So, if your machine is stuck on the “Just a Moment” screen you can try to remove externally connected devices like USB devices, wireless mouse / keyboard, Bluetooth adapters, . Turn it off and wait 1 hour. Then restart. If still stuck, power off your machine, wait 2 minutes then power back on and try again.
