How does an intransitive verb of "arrive" get to be a transitive verb of "pass" or "hand" or "approach"???

Muito obrigado pelo video muito util e todos os examplos no conteudo. If I want to ask someone (at the Time Out Market in Lisbon for example) "Would you mind moving a little to the left?", what should I ask : (a) Importa-se de se *chegar* um pouco para à esquerda ?" or (b) "Podia *desviar-se* um pouco para ...." ? Muito obrigado mais uma vez.

@@learneuropeanportuguese I'm at a high A2 level. It's challenging choosing to focus on European vs Brazilian. The latter seems to eclipse the Lusophone world. I can't seem to choose one or the other lol.

Maybe it helps to know that chegar = llegar in Spanish....(Why is ch the same as ll )?

That was great, as usual, thanks. However, the English phrase about blowing your own trumpet is more about 'virtue signalling' or boasting , publicly extolling your achievement, not so much about protecting or furthering ones own interest like pushing sardines. We'd say, 'looking after number 1" for being selfish.

Is it rude to use chegar at a meal to say that you're full? (I.e. when you're invited and you are supposed to be polite). Thanks from Italy

We use chegar a lot when people are serving you. You can respond “Já chega, “já é suficiente” or even “ assim está bem”. To say you are full, you can say “estou cheio/a”.
