Are you thinking about buying the Yardistry 12X14 Gazebo from Costco? Here is a perfect video to help you understand what goes into the installation of the Yardistry 12x14 Gazebo from Costco. I try to show all the major step in a time-lapse format. We built the Yardistry 12X14 Gazebo with 2 adults and a 13yr old who held up a 10ft 2x4. Check out our Yardistry Gazebo 12x14 installation time-lapse video and let us know what you think about it in the comments below.
There will be more videos to follow where I will break down the steps and talk about some helpful hits. Subscribe to stay updated about all this.

Fellow Phoenician here. Was looking at something like this for my back yard that also has limited space and close neighbors. Glad to see how it turned out!
Ordered the 12x20 and I think this will help us tremendously with our build! Thank you!
I’ve searched and looked at a lot of videos for an idea of how this will go…IMO yours is the best thank you so much for making this video …very helpful 👍🏼
Danelle, thanks so much. I watched every CZcams video on this thing before I installed mine. So, I knew exactly what to expect. But they were all missing part of the process. I wanted to show all of it so people could get a realistic idea of time spent on this project. Thanks so much for watching.
I have this same unit and was very impressed with the fit, I could not believe how easy it went together. Only negative is the metal on the roof faded with the exception of the rails that connected the roof panels. Love it.
Thanks for sharing. So far that hasn't happened to us but probably will. We are going to apply a coat of sealer soon . Thanks so much for watching.
I have just picked one of these up today and I have seen a couple of good videos on putting together the posts and the roof panels but this is one of the best ones for erecting the structure. Mine will be on a uneven existing stone patio so I will use a laser level to work out the different levels and cut the posts to the correct heights by trimming the bottoms accordingly (they vary by up to 100mm) as it’s the levelness of the top that is most importance to get the roof right.
Wow, this is so impressive. I loved this. What a difference.
Thank you so much!
I just started building ours and your video has answered a lot of questions that the manual didn't explain very well. Thank you. For the money we spent at Costco for this thing I was so disappointed it was balsa wood.
Very good no frills video. These are ones that I really appreciate, right to the point . Great Job !!
Awesome boy's, just picked mine up! It's just satisfying to see pop get that done with the dewalt screwdriver... Great job, hope you're still enjoying the gazebo... 🤙
Hello. It has been up for almost a year and hasn't moved or given us any problems. We absolutely love it. Did you put yours up yet? Let me know how it goes. Thanks so much for watching.
Oh nice! My in-laws just bought this same exact pergola to cover their outdoor kitchen. It looks great!
Sounds great! Just tell them to watch all the online videos and helpful hints. That really made my assembly really simple.
Just want to Appreciate you for patiently replying for each comment!
Aww thanks. I watched every video out there before I attempted the gazebo build so I know there are lots of questions around them. Thanks so much for watching and for your kind words.
@@PlantBasedDads , Hi There , where you bought it ? , how much for that? , is this wood or metal ? I really love it, you do good job,

Wow, such a great way to really improve the space. I would be out there all the time.
We agree!
the tile!! I love the tile!! the rest is really well thought out and I love it too but the tile!!
When I built mine, all my help flaked on me. I ended up using ropes, pulleys and a whole lot of swear words over 6 days to get it together.
Ed, you did it by yourself? Damn. Sorry to hear that your help flaked. It is a huge project to assemble that thing. Check out our new DIY channel and you can see the new privacy wall I build into this thing so I don't have to see my neighbors work truck anymore. The new channel Is called "DIY Project Guys Channel". Thanks so much for watching.
Kindred spirit.
What a gorgeous, huge gazebo! Love the fact it's all wood and super sturdy. Ours isn't, and sometimes shakes in the wind. Wow 101 degrees..ummm no wonder you needed this! Looks absolutely fabulous! I'm sure there will be many meals out there in the shade :)
Many thanks!
nice job dudes! super helpful. just bought the same one. this video gives me extra confidence & guidance on installation day ahead.
The final product looks amazing! Mustve totally been worth all the hard work. Great job!
It was! Although, at 55yrs old, I am getting to old for this stuff!
We have a 12x12 we’re about to start building. This gives a good feel for what we’re getting into. I was trying to think of what we’d use to assemble the roof then in your vid saw those tables. Brilliant. We have 2 of those as well and should work great.
Jim, I dont work on the floor, which most people do when they build those roof panels. I am too old to be crawling around with all that stuff. So yes, the tables were great. If you dont have 4 people building this, make sure you have a 10ft 2x4 with you. Also, I just built a tounge and groove wall for my gazebo and it came out amazing. Even the stain was a perfect match. I will be uploading that video next week after I finish editing it. It will be going to our new DIY channel called DIY Project Guys. Head over there and subscribe so you get notified when I post it over there. I wont be posting anymore DIY videos on this channel (Plant Based Dads) as this will just be for vegan cooking from here on it. Thanks so much for watching.

@@PlantBasedDads sounds good, will check it out. I purchased a couple of the yardistry privacy panels but still need to assemble and install them. We did the main build this past weekend. Went pretty well. I ended up using my 10’ ladder with a couple blocks on top to temporarily support the roof while bringing in more panels. Went together better than I expected!

This video just motivated me

You can do it. Just plan it out. I did the roof panels in my garage during the week and then assembled the whole thing on the weekend. You need at last two people and a 10ft 2X4. Thanks so much for watching.
Wow you guys are really handy I can’t believe you just constructed that whole gazebo yourself I’m gonna give you a high five for that that is amazing I love the lattice in our work in the roof area it’s beautiful nice backyard now
Thanks so much Jeff. It's a kit from Costco but there were SOOOOO many pieces. And of course, it was over 100 degrees out. Of course the plants are next. HA!
Great job putting it together and putting the video together! 👏
Thank you!! 😁. Thanks so much for watching.
Oh my gosh you guys are handy!! You’re definitely using your quarantine time productively! Time lapses are so cool to watch. I bet once you were done it was nice to rewatch all your hard work you did ☺️
Thanks so much! 😊. I say the same thing after I watch every one of our time-lapse videos. I always say "What the hell were we thinking???" Ha!
Great job guys...it looks fabulous!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Very nice presentation, great idea using a vertical post for center support. Nice job fellas
Thanks! 👍. It was worth the effort for sure. We are enjoying the shade this summer.
Thanks Robby, VERY NICE work. build & video :)
Impressive job! We are building the same here in Denver and this video is encouraging! Unfortunately, we also have to get both zoning and building permits which is just delaying the project. The structure will be anchored on 12" x 42" Sonatube concrete forms to reach the frost line (at 36") and also raise the base by up to 6" to protect from snow melt in Winter. At least that is the theory. The use of 2x4x10 was a great hint. Thank you!
That 10ft piece of wood saves us. Without it, we would not have been able to assemble this by ourselves. And since it was right at the beginning of quarantine, we couldn't ask anyone for help. So glad we saw that on another video.

I've been building this by myself for a few days now, but definitely will need at least 4 people to put up the roof. Great installation video!
Good luck! Use a 10ft 2x4 if you don't get 4 people to work on the roof. I did the roof a week after I put the main structure together.
Plant Based Dads awesome! I was looking to see how long the 2x4 was, and boom it’s right here. Thanks!

Very nice.....Ive put up two of these exact gazebos. I want to tell everyone that are considering any of these gazebos, the corner posts are all hollow. You must drill throught the top of one of the corner posts about 8 inches deep, but if you can, you can run electrical up through the bottom out the top of the post. I currently run a string of led lights, bluetooth patio speakers and a wall switched controlled fan. Its quite simple so take advantage of that fact.
I am actually adding two outlets to this thing and I am doing exactly that. Thanks so much for watching.

Great job gentleman. I see Lexx was out there helping. Gotta earn that allowance!
We agree!
Good job gentlemen.
Excellent work there guys and a great video! I just bought mine mainly encouraged by your video. All the other videos made it look so complicated. Wish me luck!
Glad it helped! So I did the same thing. I purchased mine in the beginning of Covid so I had a project while I was at home. It sat in my garage for 4 weeks before I ever touched it. I spent night after night watching the same CZcams videos. I thought it was going to be a disaster because it was just the two of us and our 13yr old son who cant do anything at all. I couldn't ask anyone for help because of the Covid thing. So, I expected complete failure. But, I also felt I had watched enough videos to know what to expect. After the slab was dry, we started by just assembling the frame the first weekend and it was simple. Then, during that next week, I assembled all the roof panels myself in the garage, one per day. They were really simple. That next weekend we took on the roof. It was the part I dreaded the most yet it went together very, very fast, No problems. I was prepared on how to lift up the other three panels to get the 4th panel in because of the videos I watched. And just like that, all 4 roof panels were on. You should be good if you watched our video and the other ones. If you don't have a guy on a ladder dealing with fitting the roof together, then you have to have a 10ft 2x4! You got this!! I also put up a video about some string lights I got at Costco. And, next Wednesday I am publishing a video of how I wired the thing with electric for the ceiling fan. Stay tuned!
I appreciate your words of encouragement! We have very similar situation. Two adults and one teenager! So I sent both of them your video so they know what to expect. They're on board! The string lights look very cool and doable! Can't wait for the ceiling fan video!
Plant Based Dads when I installed the Post Mount, it's not flushed against the post. When I placed the post in the upright position, the bottom of the post is not even touching the ground. The mount lifts it a bit. Do I need to worry about this? In fact, upon inspection of the Post Mount, it's not at a 90 degree angle.
I just saw this comment. For some reason, if you comment on an existing comment, It doesn't show me the new comment on CZcams. Did you get this resolved. what was the solution?

1599.00 at Costco. It was worth every dime. Thanks so much for watching.
Wow. That was cooool. Wish me luck building mine. Gonna follow your lead.
You got this!! I did the roof panels myself in the garage one at a time over 4 days. I did one section a day for about 45-60mins a day for four days. Then it was two of us assembling the the frame on Saturday for 4 hours and then 3 of us putting the roof panels together on Sunday for 4 hours. It was worth all the effort. A year later, we still love it. I also have a video on how I wired it for a ceiling fan and installed an electrical box on the ceiling for string lights. Then, I have a video on our new DIY channel "DIY Project Guys" that shows me installing a privacy wall on one side of the gazebo out of shiplap. That really changed the look of it so check that video out. Email me at diyprojectguys@gmail.com if you want me to send you all the parts and stuff I used for the wiring. Good luck.

For anyone thinking about pulling the trigger on yardistry products I am a contractor of 15 years with many professional gazebkos built by code ...
I can't build this for 2100 w tax and if I did it would be out of pressure treated garbage not cedar .
Overall very good quality materials and connection methods .
This is built to last i would expect anyone to get at least 10yrs out of this .
Pro tip ....buy some wood sealer and have it handy as you build coat any open edges with wood sealer and thank me in 5 years ! Protecting the exposed ends or cut ends with sealer will help any water from leaching into the wood overtime .
Sealer $25 guaranteed to get you another few years of use !
I had not thought of that. I am headed out to the hardware store to get some wood sealer and to get it on there now before it rains. It has not rained since we build that thing almost 6 weeks ago. Thanks for the tip.
No prob !
2 more tips here ...if you decide to cap the bottom of posts again to cover bolts and bracket ....use the brown pressure treated wood matches alot better than real cedar unless you orde rather stain yardistry sells no exp with that ...but I am impressed with the designs of yardistrys stuff they have alot of different gazebos /pergola/ arbor etc ....but one downside to the 12x14 gazebos is yardistry does not have an engineer stamp for the structure and this gazebo technically requires a permit (its over 108sq ft) and most city's have issues with the roof attachment or something like that ...I am in ontario by the way !
With no stamp its very difficult to even obtain a permit for some stuff ..
Also the roof pies when anyone is assembling them the last step is the flashing that runs up the sides and covers tops dont put that on to tight leave it just slightly raised above roof panels and the ridge caps will slide in waaay easier ....
Still a hard 8.5/10 in my opinion overall
Great job, I appreciate this video. It has lessoned my concerns about installing. I love Arizona. Question, did you consider solar panels?
When solar becomes an affordable DIY product, I'm on it. Until then, I just cant justify paying $20k-$30k to own the system and leasing doesn't give you the tax benefits.
Well done. Wish I was that fast 🙂
Very nice, next I would paint those cenderblocks
The cinderblock wall fence? Yeah I hate looking at that thing too. Thanks so much for watching.
nice job!
Thanks! Thanks so much for watching.
I just finished one in 10 hours 2 persons for 500£ , great project!
So glad to hear that. I have had mine for two years now and I still love it.
Awesome
Good day sir. Great job with the installation and what an awesome video for all of us to learn. I have one question regarding the footings. I noticed (and perhaps this was not filmed) that you did not bold or secure the posts onto the patio. Or did you and it just wasn't filmed? Are the metal brackets strong enough? I am planning to put this gazebo on an actual deck (composite) by my pool and have been debating how to secure the posts and give the entire gazebo some structural strength to survive high winds and potential hurricanes (I'm in NC). Thank you so much for any input.
Very nice - looks great. Are you adding a gutter so when it does rain the water won't gush into your doorway?
Quite the project :)
That's the plan! We are tackling that this weekend and will probably do a video for that too.
Thanks for the video. How big a pad and did you have to put in footers?
Awesome i have one too ,is not installed it yet
great video! just wondering if anchoring this gazebo on patio is necessary. Thanks!
Looks great!!
I have a question on the slab. Did you have to get footings for the pillars or just the 4 inch slab? If anyone know please let me know. I am about to put two and still needing to know if I need footings.
Thanks!
I’m about to pull the trigger on this 12x14. What did you end up doing with your slab?
thanks
You're welcome!
Hey Joey, thanks for sharing this video. The gazebo looks amazing and loved your new DIY project channel. I just recently bought the same gazebo from Costco and will be doing my own project this weekend. Question for you, how did you manage to install the ridgecap on the roof? It looks to me that two of the corners of the gazebo are against the wall close to your patio sliding door? I have a very similar situation on my own project? Trying to figure out the best solution. Your input would be highly appreciated. Ciao!
Hi Greg. If there was one thing I should have shown in that video its that! But, the camera did not record that part of the installation. Yardistry has a video where they tell you what to do. We had to take the ridge cap and bend it open about half way up the length of it. Then we were able to slide it on and bend that part of it back into place as we were putting it on. I wish we had gotten that part on video. It was my biggest concern when we were watching all these videos and nobody showed it. Thanks so much for watching
@@PlantBasedDads did this affect the amount of natural light coming into your home through the sliding door at all? My wife is convinced this will eliminate any possible sunlight into our space, and our yard is similar setup to yours.
Very Helpful to watch. Although I have a question about anchoring into the concrete slab? How thick should the concrete be?
Emmett, I have not anchored it yet. Its been sitting in the yard since may. I had a 4inch concrete slab poured. Since my slap was pored with a pitch, I had to have three of the posts be off the ground so they had to be shimmed. So, I am. not able to use the anchoring brackets that come with the posts on 3 of the posts. So I have to come up with something else. I will do a video when the temperature drops below 100 here in Phoenix. Until then , its not going anywhere because that thing is very heavy.
Hi Joey - Thanks for sharing this great video. Can you please point me to the video that shows how to install the ridgecap in tight corners. I am unable to find it.
That was a great video, thank you for posting. 1 question, I haven't see it referenced on any other build video, how did you secure the posts to the concrete?
Rick, I didnt! Every time we have a monsoon, I run outside to see if the thing starts moving but it has not budged. It does weigh about 600lbs so really I am not expecting it to move. But, I do have to secure it eventually. That was why I had the concrete slab poured. It just got too hot here in Phoenix to work outside though. Next month, when the weather changes, i'll be doing a video on how I secured it when I actually secure it. Check out my lighting video and my fan/wiring installation video on that gazebo. Thanks for watching bro.
this is awesome! my patio is just in full sun for most of the day, and i've been wanting to put a little table out there with an umbrella like the green one you had... but if i could get a smaller version of this it would be amazing! probably renter friendly since it stands on its own, right?
Yes, but this one is like 800lbs to probably too heavy to use in a rental. Tim got that green umbrella with the base for really cheap on amazon. It was under 60.00 with the base and everything. It's huge. Let me know if you need a link for that.
I would like a link to the umbrella please and Thank you!
@@sharonstout4059 Here is the one we purchased. Of course it now says it's unavailable. We purchased in in February before the summer started because Tim's parents were coming to visit in march.

That looks amazing but hard work to build. I am sure you are going to enjoy having that in your garden especially when dining out .
Can't wait!
Great 👍
Thanks for the visit. Thanks so much for watching.
Nice job, you just past your 2 year mark, how is the Gazebo working out? being in a very harsh environment how is it holding up? Can you sit under it during the summer or still just too hot out? Any ideas of what type of wood it is? Thanks
They look great in the store but it looks like a lot of hard work
Eric, I loved it in the store. I love it at home. first, it was a nightmare to get home. I had to call a friend with a truck, and I HATE asking anybody to help me with anything. Assembling the roof panels was pretty simple in the garage. They went together in about 45 minutes each. But, the day we actually assembled all the parts of it on the patio was like 100 degrees and that was about 4 hours on Saturday to build the frame, and 4 hours on Sunday to install and secure the roof. The lifting and all that wasn't bad, but there are literally a thousand screws to this thing. So, that part got annoying, Still, we love it. Thanks so much for watching.
Hi Joey, this is a great video. I bought the same gazebo at Costco and built it on my back porch with one side leaning against the house, just like you. My question is, how did you install the roof ridge caps that are supposed to slide in from the outside corner of the roof? I wasn’t able to figure out a way to do it on the 2 corners leaning against the house.
James, every time someone asks me that I get sad. That was the one thing I wanted to know when I was getting ready to build this and of course, my camera did not film that part. I was really upset. I followed the instructions on the video by Yardistry. Its called Helpful Tips or something. They say to bend the ridge cap open, clip it on one side and bend it back into place. That is what we did on the two sides up against the house. Thanks so much for watching.
Thee installers! Now I feel better.
We had 2.5 but with that 2x4 it worked out well. Let me know how your install goes. Thanks so much for watching.

Great job and video guys! If I may ask, does it get hot in there come summer time? I'm from Imperial Valley CA, and we get 115 plus in summer. Debating an open or a closed pergola like the one you guys built. Thanks for posting!
Hello. We don't even go on the patio during them summer because it's just too hot outside overall. We are about to hit that time of year here in the next 3-4 weeks and then we wont use the patio again until late September or early October. I don't know if the gazebo makes the patio any hotter, but that tin roof aint helping it stay cool in any way. Thanks so much for watching.
Hi - thanks for making this video! I feel more confident to take this project on!! Quick question - do the posts need to be anchored into the concrete?
If you want it permanently then yes but if you want to later move it to another spot then I would not Anchor it
I saw you looking at the plans to build the roof on the saw horses, could you please tell me more about it? I would like to learn that good trick! Please tell what type of angle 📐 you did? How did you came out all dimensions to make fit perfectly! Thank you. God bless you.
seems perfect for summer months! Or can you use it in winter as well? how cold does it get in Arizona in winters? great job :)
Yes you can! Its a warm weather climate. In Phoenix, its mostly in the 50-60 degree range during the winter days.
very nice! can anyone comment on the longevity in Canadian winters with the weight of snow and ice?
Fabulous, do you think it could be used for a small car carport?
I have one these but what worry me most is laying the groundwork. Beyond the location where we want put it is a hill and we live in mountains with snow in winter so although we want concrete pad we also want to pour a three foot concrete form to use Simpson Ties, ect. How did you tie in the posts to the concrete pad? Thanks it’s great seeing your video it gives us confidence!
Hello. We have not connected it to the concrete slab yet. The posts come with mounts that are bolted into the posts and then directly into the concrete slab, so it does come pre-ready to anchor down to a slab. I will be doing a video on that eventually on the new DIY channel we have, "DIY Project Guys Channel". Thanks so much for watching.
Nice Build!!! Would you happen to know/guess how much the triangle roof sections each weigh by any chance?
It wasn't heavy, it was just awkward. Tim and I had no problem lifting it up. The wood is cedar so its light weight. I would estimate about 25lbs per section.
This is the Gazebo i want to buy and install this coming spring..did you have to anchor it to the ground or is it sturdy enough where you are confident it wont tip over or move? Thank you!
Nice job, good to see the kid out there helping and not on his phone the whole time. I'm in Phoenix and also looking to pick one of these up. I thought about building a paver patio to place it on but I'm curious what you paid for the concrete pad and also what costco charges for these . Obviously it's all Christmas stuff so there's no deals on them right now. Just curious what you paid. Enjoy it!!
Hello. We had thought about doing pavers also. There were already pavers there actually. But we decided to have a guy do the slab. He came out, pulled all the pavers up and stacked them in the corner of the yard, dug up the ground, poured the slab and was done by the end of the day. It was 1400.00 for the slab. I did a 13x15ft slab. I paid 1500.00 for the gazebo at Costco in May. The regular price was 1800. I think you can get them cheaper on line now. Thanks so much for watching the video. If you do get one of these, I have other videos on wiring lights and a ceiling fan for it too.
@@PlantBasedDads Thank you for the info, I read through the comments on this video and went to both your other videos and gave 'em a like. Thanks again, coming together nicely!
Hi Dads! Thanks for the video. We just received this gazebo today. Our patio is installed (with footings) in early Aug. With your build knowledge on this, what would you recommend we build ahead of time to help the install process in August? We have an empty garage bay currently holding the three shipment boxes. I was thinking maybe building the roof panels early? But you'd probably know best. We don't want to bring it outside for assembly until the patio is done. Thanks in advance for any guidance here! :)
Hello. Here is what I did. I followed the directions for the first few pages. I prepped all the posts with the mountings for the base (which I wound up not using because my slab is sloped for drainage. Then I started the 4 roof panels. I built them entirely in the garage. Get two tables or something to build on so you are not on the floor. Also, get a cordless screwdriver so you are not wearing out your wrist. Then after that stuff was build I was ready to actually assemble the whole thing over two days. But yes, build what you can in the garage. Thats how I did it. Good luck!

When you put the roofing together did you put weather strips on?
Nice buid! Question does it make a lot of noise when it rains? Being a metal roof? Thanns
Great video. How were you able to put in the ridge caps on the side that’s close to the house? I’m putting mine up close to the house too and am hoping not to run into issues with not enough space.
I wish the camera had caught that part. We. had to bend the ridge caps open, slide one side on, and then bend it back into place around the other side of the ridge. It was not easy. But, it did work and it is keeping the rain out so its working well. Thanks so much for watching.
Good after noon. My roof panels are giving me a very hard time. Sides are flush, but adjusting corners throws it off to where it messes with alignment with screw holes/rafter. Did you have happen to experience this as well?
One of the last steps is sliding the aluminum ridge caps up from the corners on angled joints of the roof. How did you do that on the side that is so close to the wall? (I watched the Yardistry's "Helpful Hints" video, but it made it appear that you need lots of clearance between the roof and the wall.) What was your trick?
Kevin, that was the part that I was dreading the whole time during the build. And, its the one thing I could not find in any other video. We had to restart the camera ever 30 mins because thats the longest it will record. It stopped recording right before we did the ridge caps. So frustrating. It's the one part that I REALLY wanted to show. We watched the Yardistry helpful hints too. Thats how we figured out how to get them on. In the video they tell you to bend up one side of the ridge cap and then clip on the other side and bend the first side back down Tim got them on there but it was a struggle. He had to bend the ridge cap open on one side pretty far up, and then bend it back into place. When you look at the video at the end, it shows a roof view from my upstairs window over the structure that shows the ridge caps, and they do appear to be on correctly. So, we just did what the Yardistry helpful hints video said. It did work. But I really wish we could have shown that to you in the video.
Awesome! Does it matter much if the beams rest on top of the posts rather than bolted on the sides?
This one comes with all the holes predrilled so you have to put it right where it is designed to go. It is very secure as it is with the roof supports on the side of the posts. Thanks so much for watching.
Where is the hot tub? Looks great!
Awesome sauce great job 👏 I like the post brace you put in the middle how long was that post by the way? Thanks!
10ft long exactly
this is a great looking Gazebo. i want to buy one but i figured it can be a great weekend project to build this myself from scratch. Lumber is expensive these days but i figured it would cost me at least half or less than half of the $2000+ they are charging for these
I am not brave enough to build something like this myself. I admire your ambition. Let me know how it turns out. Thanks so much for watching.
Would it be possible to install the roofing on top last after all the framing is done or is it too hard?
Great job! Do you need secure it on the floor?
I had the slab poured for that very reason, but never go around to securing it. I will be doing it this spring I hope. Thanks so much for watching.
Thanks for the video! I'm starting on mine tomorrow. Did you bolt it down to the concrete?
Good luck! Use a 10Ft 2X4 to help support the roof while you are installing panels if you don't have enough people. We have not secured it do the concrete yet. We are going to do that and do a video on that.
