I recently did a video on that channel (DIY Project Guys) where I put up a privacy wall on the gazebo. It came our really nice. Check it out:

    Thanks so much! I bought the same stuff from Costco - The Yardistry 12 x 14 Pavilion and now the 48' string lights. I've been trying to figure out how to put up the lights but I never considered stringing them around the perimeter. I thought they would go from side to side, but now I realize that would require twice as many lights. Now I'm trying to navigate the intricate world of remote smart dimming switches to control the lights.

      Hello, I did a wall switch dimmer. Really, I never use the dimmer part. We built this just as it was getting hot here in Phoenix. They temps just started dropping so we are about to finally be able to start sitting outside again. So excited.

      Hi Stacey. Thats's awesome! I couldn't wait to get the structure up so I could do the lights and fan and all that fun stuff. I am thinking about creating a free standing wall/partition made of wood to block out the neighbor on the back side. I want it to be wood and weatherproof so I can hang outside artwork and light sconces on it but don't want to attach it to the structure. I will have to put some kind of feet on it or something. Stay tuned!! HA!

    Nice install! My wife and I just finished assembling our Yardistry gazebo last weekend and are getting ready to install the same lights & a fan as well. Do you have a parts list for the electrical boxes that you used outside (esp. the weatherproof ones)? I'm hoping to find a in-use one that is black like the ones you have!

    • @PlantBasedDads
      @PlantBasedDads  Před 4 lety +6

      Hi Jeff. I wish I had done a parts list for this. I had no idea anyone would ask me that and of course thats the first thing people ask because so many people purchased this thing from Costco and they all want to do a fan and lights, right? So I purchased all the parts at Home Depot. The "in-use" box and all the other parts were grey. I spray painted all of them. Home Depot does sell in-use boxes that are bronze or black, but they were out of them. I did this right after quarantine started so there were a lot of empty shelves at the stores. As far as everything else I purchased, I got 50 feet of of 3 wire off the rolls where you pay by the foot. I also got 50 feet of plastic grey electrical conduit, PVC glue and a lot of fittings. I got a ceiling fan box for the fan to mount to the top of the gazebo. I got some plastic "U" clips that you put around the conduit to nail it to the beams. I got an outdoor switch box with cover to be able to turn the fan on and off without pulling the chain. and then I also got an outdoor junction box to convert the wiring from the fan to half of an outdoor extension cord (which I purchased) so I could just literally plug it into the outdoor outlet. Email me at plantbaseddads@gmail.com if you need me to take photos of any of the parts I got. Not sure if you saw the fan video, but that one shows a lot of what I did. Check that video out too. Good luck with it. We just ordered a patio set for this thing and when It arrived, we are going to do a video that too. Just waiting for the triple digit temps to fade here in Phoenix.

    Awesome video. I had just recently installed the costco patio 12x12 and got similar patio lights. Being stuck at home this gave me something to do. I am somewhat confused though as what do you do with the male and female ends to the junction box. I can't really see from the video if you had just plugged them in but it didn't seem like it either. Could you also link the junction box that you use in the video as well? Thank you :)

    • @PlantBasedDads
      @PlantBasedDads  Před 4 lety +3

      I installed an outdoor outlet box with cover and conduit and ran it to the existing light fixture outside the house which I removed. At the house, I just connected the hot(black) wires together and the common(white) wires together. I also connected the green/bare (ground) wires together. So now, when I turn on the switching inside the house that used to turn on that old outside light fixture, it turns on the new outlet box and anything that is plugged into it. I recommend calling an electrician if it gets too complicated. My guy was too busy to come do this for me and with quarantine, I wanted to finish this and get to the next project. I am on vacation now, but I will see if I have any phots when I get home to send you.

      I think that would work but it would mean a lot of them. But that should work. Try to get someone to hold the string off lights so the weight is off the hooks for the first like 10 hooks. Once you have enough hooks up, the weight should start distributing evenly so the entire weight of all those lights isn't on the first or second hook that you install. Good luck.

    Hi Joey - question on the roof of your gazebo... When monsoon season the rain is going to pour water against your sliding glass door. Can you do the water test with your garden hose and see how it is going to affect the side close to your exterior home with the sliding door?

    • @PlantBasedDads
      @PlantBasedDads  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi Billy bob, we just got a really good downpour last week. The rain was actually blowing sideways and everting inside the gazebo got wet. The sliding glass door took a lot of water but really it was mostly from the wind blowing it around. Once the wind slowed down, the water from the gazebo came down between the gazebo and the house and didn't really smash into the glass door. Our gazebo is about 8 inches from the house. I am going to put some gutters on the gazebo once the summer is gone but right now its just too hot. Not sure if that answers your question or not. We did not have any rain come into the house through the glass door in any way.

    • @PlantBasedDads
      @PlantBasedDads  Před 3 lety +1

      As far as we know, they only come in the 48ft size.

      Yeah that's what we found out, we'll probably have to buy two 48 footers and use the excess for the inside of the gazebo. One other question PBD, my wife wants the bright white bulbs instead of the yellow dim bulbs, how do you know the difference when you buy them?

    I’m following the same thing you guys did and adding the lights, my question is how far from the outlet did you hang your first light and what did you use to secure the lights to the gazebo? I bought the same light from Costco, FYI.

    • @PlantBasedDads
      @PlantBasedDads  Před rokem +1

      The lights come with these holes in them to put screws in. So we just go screws big enough to go into the wood 1/2 inch. We started the strand at the outlet with the first light next to the outlet, and then it fit exactly all the way around to the other side with one box of lights.

      Hi Russell. I capped off the light fixture that was on the house and ran the wired into an outlet box that I installed in the upper part of the gazebo. Since the light fixture that was originally there was attached to a wall switch, the outlet is also switched so I can turn the lights on and off from inside the house.

      Ceiling fan remote kits have small white switches on the part that goes into the ceiling where you can change the remote signal frequency in case you have more than one of the same switch in a small area. Look at the manual for that remote kit. That can be changed.

    Are these dimmable?

    • @PlantBasedDads
      @PlantBasedDads  Před 4 lety

      Yes. I have them connected to the original outdoor light fixture box and on the inside of the house, where the light switch is for that old fixture, I have a dimmer switch. Works great. I did look them up online first to make sure they were dimmable before I purchased them. We love these lights.

    Oh man I’m going attempt to string these on the 12x16 gazebo tomorrow. Fingers crossed I’m not short. Maybe if I pull the string taught diagonal at the corners to get a little more length
