End of an era getting our stock ready for the last time! Jerseys here we come

- One of the busiest days we have had for a long time and that’s including the shed build, more on that next time there’s only so much of your attention I can hold 😘😘
in 2009 i had no experience of farming or the realities that came with it. That soon changed when I met my other half Roy, I had a job as a carer and in every spare moment threw myself into farming. I had only ever driven a Nissan Micra and had experience with horses, I learnt the hard way as nobody had the time to show me and soon after arriving I found myself mothering on calves to three quarter bred limmy cows. We spent every available moment on the farm between our day jobs. Fast forward to 2016 two children later we moved into our very own farm overlooking the northern Pennines, Laitha.
we are in a transitional period at present and will finally be milking cows and making the final switch later this year, after years of planning and implementing infrastructure we will be milking 120 Jersey cows on two Lely robots. This will be a huge change and a steep learning curve
I will be taking you all along for the ride so hit that subscribe button and see you every other day for farming vlogs.
I am overjoyed to be a farmer. I feel so fortunate every day to wake up and do what I love and even better share it with the world and hope it inspires more young people from Preston to spread their wings and think outside the box the world doesn’t need more childcare workers or hairdressers it needs more farmers.

Them is class cattle you have Charlotte your working very hard with your sheep and cattle to ❤❤❤❤
Great video as usual.
Just because you had some blue skies doesn't mean you have to show off 😂.
Looking like things are starting to dry up a little now.
Paper work, errors do happen from time to time as we're only human 😉
I seen the interview and the shed looked so different. After seeing your interview I did comment that the NFU should employ you to go around schools to promote farming to the kids. You have the right attitude for the job and the kids would trust you as you’re funny but straight. You need music when you’re travelling.
That comment has almost made the whole effort worthwhile, I can’t thank you enough for the compliment, that’s the objective, honestly tearful, for a individual to recognise the goal, it cancels out 100 negative comments x
Great video as always Charlotte sorry for the late watch but I have been working away
Great vids . Great looking cattle , please do tell the prices !
Fav zach song as well , get on.
The A66, brings back memories of when the wife and I stayed at a converted barn just of the 66 near Brough, it was the only time I’ve had to turn left to turn right 😂, because there was a small tunnel under the 66 to get to the barn which was about quarter mile up hill, very isolated up there but amazing views. Also the person who’s never made a mistake, has never made anything, thank you me darlin 🍻👍🏼💛
Hi Charlotte, we haven't seen so much cattle moving around before on your farm. I hope you get a good price for the cows and sheep your selling. There is still water on the fields but it looks like enough grass to feed the sheep. By having cows and calves over the years has set you up with experience to look after your new Jersey dairy cowes and their calves. It must be time to get back into the big barn build. Life is never dull on your farm. Chris from Australia 🇦🇺.
Enjoyed
Why does Roy always look stressed out, I don't ever think I have seen smile . ❤
Ha ha ha ha WELL it’s living with me you see 😂😂😂
Lovely sky Charlotte, your cattle look great and hopefully you will get a good price for them.

Regards from Ireland, knackered tonight and going to the bed ! Those small cattle looking great, valuable stock at moment!
Won’t be far behind you, finished washing out for lambing at 9 🙈😂xx
Those young stock has serious quality and you could look at them all day! It's going to be some shock to the system when your looking at a jersey with an arse like a pin!
Ahhh but when your getting a monthly cheque to keep the mum I think I’ll stand it 😂😂
Nice One Charlotte Thanks again
It’s thank you, all the people who watch and support x
A very nice pre planned artistic touch with the beautiful blue sky!
Paint the sky with stars, bloody love Enya!x
Hello there. I like Barny castle. There used to be some good pubs around there. It's a lot of years ago sin I worked up there. IV stoped over night to save traveling home. There's some nice people up there.
Great video, you must have mixed emotions about all the cattle going, then excited about the Jerseys coming. X
Marilyn you are so right, as Roy keeps saying “it’s not the end of something, it’s the start of something new” x
Charlotte, great looking cattle and in great condition. I'd love to know the weights.
Watched the interview, I grew up on a sheep/beef farm in Lancashire I now live in Tasmania. Its interesting the different public perceptions between here and there, here farmers are valued and respected over there farmers have become a political football with all sides seeing who can kick the hardest .Its lazy politics to single out a minority and yes I do class farmers as a ethnic minority farming isnt what we do its who we are. I havent been directly involved in farming for over 30yrs (dad and brother still operating) but still see myself as one couldnt change that even if I wanted to cheers John
Loving the Zach Bryan soundtrack great video
Lol quality x
😂 glad I m not the only one who messes up the pp work!
Those numbers merge!x
Fast paddy.😂😂
Hi Charlotte I here lamb prices are pretty good at the moment the England, roy
Never seen lamb prices so high, 45kg texel hogg at £178, unbelievable x
Podcast was really good! Are they going to be putting the podcast series on Spotify etc?
How can Roy not listen to music in the cab... Just sing all the journey at him instead.
He says he thinks 🤔😂x
Why is Roy always looking so stressed. Hope he gets some time to relax and enjoy the farm. Kilcunda Australia
He’s in the office and has the bills to pay! Times will change x
😂always fit😂
Lol
Charlotte you know what makes a bull sweat , ,, a tight jersey lol x
Be no jersey bulls on this farm!x
Very wise. Absolute killers. Guernsey’s are nearly as bad. When I was a lad Guernseys on Island were tethered in the fields and shifted twice a day. I was always very cautious shifting the bulls. Much to my father’s shame I ran away from a loose bull when I was 7 and hid in the outside toilet. He went to great pains to show me how to control the bull with his ring. I was such a disappointment to my Dad. 😂
A great video Charlotte, how old are the cattle what went to the auction.
Barnard Castle heifers would be 20 months, when feed was high in price the creep feeders didn’t leave the yard, maybe a wrong decision, cattle would’ve left sooner if they’d been creeped x
@@charlotteashleyfarm Ok that is really interesting, I buy mine in as young calves, and try and run them on for a year.
Mine at the moment are up to 9.5 months old.
nothing wrong with having a few store cattle around the farm that you can just load up and send off to market.........we use to find that even with a monthly milk cheque a few stores even if it was only a dozen or so the money would come in handy that was why we stuck with british friesians and ayrshires we never went down the holstein route cos we could get a decent store bullock by putting limousin or hereford on them
This is an interesting comment. We had always believed 70 % to Angus, try and get £60 calf at 8 weeks, we were then advised to go all sexed, then another man said stick to original plan, those who have done are best to listen to! Call and visit if you ever get chance 👍x
to be honest i don't think jersey's are a very good breed for beef .......there too small in size.......they produce the best quality milk though .......i think sexed semen is the best way to go on the best cows you want to breed replacements from infact i think i'm right in saying that Arla say you have to do sexed semen on channel island breeds cos in the past most jersey bull calves got shot at birth cos of there extremely low worth as a viable beef calve to rear and nowadays its not publicly acceptable to be shooting calves at birth. i know with holsteins they put belgian blue on them quite a lot.......that breed might be worth trying on jerseys......they've certainly got a good rear end on them and everyone likes a good rear end😀😀the other option would be to stick with jersey on everything with sexed semen then sell freshly calved jersey heifers but you would end up with a lot of cattle on your farm and probably your farm isn't big enough to carry say 300 head of cattle@@charlotteashleyfarm
Decent tunes tonight girl 👌
I was looking at the sky waiting for the aviation update????
All is very quiet 🤔x
