If the smoke goes away after it warms up. That is valve seals. And if they're not too far gone about a quarter can of seafoam in the oil might just revive them to stop that.
Margaret
Valve seals can be a good winter project to record. Not too hard or technical of a job.
How about "old blue" 4 a name?
Well, how about a throwback to an old trucker movie, call your dump truck "Blue Mule", that was the trucks name in White Line Fever of and it was a Ford also, albeit a cab over road tractor, but still a Ford truck!!😎😎😎
0034
This truck brings back many memories for me. My dad had a 74 Ford F600 with a 390 gas engine when I was growing up. It had a 14' dump bed. We made wooden side racks for hauling gravel and dirt. A set for hauling grain and also a set for hauling cattle. It was our go to truck. I saw it about 3 weeks ago hauling mulch from the local saw mill. Still going strong. Thanks for the video Mike.
Mike, it looks like you pulled a “Camarata!” Andrew is definitely smiling. Congrats on the new old girl. She’s a beaut.
I was actually going to suggest the name "Andy" for the truck for that reason hahaha
Can you imagine seeing Mike break out his *chainsaw* to install the radio in the truck?! 😂
Exacty what l thougt too
I was thinking the same thing about Andrew .😁
Except Andrew would have drove it home no matter how rough it was
Love the old , IN 70'S I work on one just like it it was gas 361 .Dump truck
What a nice old dump truck. Every old kid needs one.
Mike, you are so fortunate that Melissa is on board with a purchase like that! If I brought that home, I'd be sleeping in the cab! 😱🥶
Lol
Mike, I'm a firm believer in, if the seller is asking $400 for a product and it's worth $400 to me I never try to nickel and dime the seller for a couple of bucks. It's demeaning. I was already a fan of the show, now I'm a bigger fan.
Bet the 81 yr old man was grateful.
Don’t go to Korea if you think it demeaning, over there you have to barter for a pair of socks!!.😁
Mike is a class act.
To bad it's not worth 3000
Gregg, I do the same!
Just sold something and same happened to me.
It IS appreciated!!!
@@haroldphipps3457 yeah, I just sold a vintage 1976 musical instrument for my listed price of $3500. In mint condition. I can't tell you the number of people that offered me $1000 calling me a crook. The guy that bought it didn't haggle 1 bit. He said he'd been looking for yrs and would have paid $4500. He showed up on time and walked away very happy. It's amazing to me the how disrespectful some people are.
Old blue definitely fits not only for the color but the blue smoke it puts off. I love old trucks like that. Can’t wait to see more of it
I’m a firm believer in, if someone makes a rememberable impression on you the best way to honor them is to name something after them. Sounds like the 81 yrs old man was fair, honest, and took great care of the Ford dump truck. Congratulations on owning another Ford.
You're a pretty tough negotiator, Mike. LOL Old Blue fits really well. Looks to me she's got at least a few more loads left in her. Old Fords never die, they just take on new responsibilities, like mosquito control.
That was my first thought! I would call her “Skeeter” in memory of all the mosquitoes she will kill! Marcus from Chesapeake VA.
I see it doubles as a mosquito control vehicle too. LOL!!!
Thats a great old dump truck! Thanks for showing the big tow trucks !! Way better than watching TV show!!
Nice Find. I have a 1968 International 4 wheel drive with dump bed. It has a 304 engine. It is mostly used on our property but is road worthy. I good load for this 1 ton truck is 2 tons. Runs like a top and handles our hilly country just great. Have to keep an eye on it when out in public. Have had a few offers to sell it just on sight of it.
Wheezer. You're going to become fond of the old girl I can tell. I couldn't help but smile when you drove it up the hill and it came into view. New adventure time. I enjoy your channel.
Mike, it is rare to see decency, values, and truths still represented by a hand shake deal these days. The 81 year old Man said well make me an offer. You said well, what about $3000. 👏🤝
Wow! Congratulations on the dump truck. There are many younger adults out working hard. We need to encourage and uplift them as they do their jobs. Thanks Mike for the great video.,
Mike I had a 74, F700 just like it, only it was a gas burner. Big Bus steering wheel with no power steering, you will know you have done something when you drive her all day loaded in tight quarters. It will work perfectly for what you are going to use it for! Glad to see it!
Nice find Mike. Especially with the cat engine and air brakes. That old truck would dog for ever with a bit of help huh. Pretty neat sometimes to keep an old truck going. We’ve had our share of older trucks. I end up selling for newer but always look back at the joys of them really never letting me down to much with out new tech. Sweet old girl there. You’ll be happy with her for what she is.
Now we're talkin! I had an old '75 F750 dump truck about 12 years ago. Only gave $1500 back then... Mine had the bulletproof Ford 3.9L I6 motor. 👍 I also got a farm tag on it, so I didn't have to have a CDL, inspection or anything to make it road legal.
Sweet ride.. I have an old Ford Lafrance that was converted from a Fire Truck to a Log Loader.. Ill try and get a video up for tomorrow showing it
In a prior life, I worked for U-Haul as a truck mechanic. At the time, the "pride of the fleet" was a 1974 Ford F-600 with a 359 Heavy Duty engine and a "bulldog" four-speed manual transmission.
Easy to work on, to be sure. Some of the parts may be harder to find now than they were in 1986, but still...
I was confused for a moment when you came over the hill. Yes, it's a '74 cab, but the grille looks like the prior generation ('67-'72).
Love the truck, Mike! Congratulations. Just imagine all the stuff you can do with it & to it. Most everything on these older trucks can be fixed with bailing wire & duct Tape... I like BRUTUS!
How about BLUTUS ? Best of both worlds.
I think I would go ahead and get it inspected and roadworthy if it wouldn’t take too many extra $. It will haul more than your trailer, you could save the haul bill on small loads and you could spread your own rock. Just my .02
Nice find!
O’Smokey. Thats what i would call the dump truck. I’m ready to her work. Stay well, stay safe and yall HAVE A DAY
Great purchase. Trucks like that will never die. That steering wheel is huge. I'll be very interested in seeing how those tow trucks work. Hard working young man. That stove is massive and should be able to heat the whole building if need be. Good luck with your purchases. Stay safe.
I'd say you git a heck of a deal on old blue. Lots of life left in it for sure. Seeing big tow trucks like that bring out the inner child in me. Cheers
That truck is a gem!! The best part….no emissions or DEF!
Looking forward to seeing more of this truck, and maybe do a review video of it after using it for a few months
Great looking truck!! Wish I could find one like that!! Have a Safe Day
That truck probably had a 330ci, or the 352ci engines. That 3208 in there now makes enough torque to break everything on that truck. That's a cool old piece.
That's what I was thinking too... probably had a 352 originally. Should never want for power with the 3208 in that small of a truck.
When installing the stove, would it be better to vent the pipe out the end of the building to prevent putting a hole in the roof? Just a thought. Great video.
What a great beauty that old truck is. And you're kind of a Ford guy. Hadn't noticed. Looking forward to seeing the dump truck in action.
3208 Cat. Teamed with an automatic transmission, this power train in a ford chassis was my favorite fire truck. Purred like a kitten. Take care of her and she will take care of you.
Name recommendation: “Ole Smoky” and better not let the EPA see this video. Love ❤️ it!! 😊
Yeah I was gonna say I hope PA DEP doesn’t watch your channel. 🤣 Smokey would be a good name. But knowing Mike he won’t let it keep smoking.
LOL, when you were coming up the hill with the truck, I laughed and said "Fill up the oil and check the gas!!"
I think "Ol' Blue" is just perfect.
BHD70, Love your comment. 😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
You never have to do an oil change. None of the oil ever gets dirty enough to change!
@@PatrickWagz Yep! But that's for the gas engines, which I thought is what Ol' Blue had at first... but that blue smoke seems pretty normal for a 3208... My dad worked for a fuel distributor and their trucks had 3208's in them, and they had the blue smoke also until they got warmed up. 👍👍👍
What a GREAT intro for OL BLUE coming up the hill...Back in the 1950 s my dad had an old DODGE pickup , he put a dump body on it.. U had to hand pump to get it to dump... Played with it for hours.....I havent thought of that for years..... GOD BLESS YOU ALL...
My Dad had a '72 like that. Brings back a lot of memories. I loved that truck.
Mike, you need to see if you can get a Farm truck tag for it. That would prevent you from paying the outrageous commercial insurance and tag prices. In North Carolina, forestry products are considered farm products and you can legally sell your products from the truck without a commercial tag. A huge difference in price for me in NC. When I sold my trucking business I kept 2 tractor-trailer trucks and I'm using them with a farm tag. You surely have enough land to qualify for a farm tag.
🤨
If that option works in PA, that’d be a great idea!
Most states also exclude farmers from the requirement of having a CDL, which now requires a 160 hour classroom portion to get the license.
Dump truck insurance is very high due in part to a lot of the smaller companies running on a shoestring.
Farm tags are the way to go. Only limitation is 150 miles from the farm and you can’t haul for anyone else. A win-win
You're only allowed 10 or 15 miles away from your registered address with a farm use vehicle in PA.
@@Sventy11 In North Carolina we are allowed 150 miles. I believe I would check with the DOT and make sure. I know it's different from state to state but it does help with people like Mike who won't need a full-time truck.
Right with you on Ford! Cool looking truck. 60 degrees for a high in southern MN today, good day for splitting firewood, can't get to the woods now, the field is to wet to get across.
A good ride for sure and a Ford 700, too. Great find, onward!
3 K love the new dump truck great Buy
What a perfect addition to the family. I was four when that old girl was built and a Ford guy also. Love to see these old trucks kept alive and being used. Awesome just totally awesome that she's still running. ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
Mike, We made the fuel system for Cat 3208's at Pontiac IL Cat plant. It is a great engine!
@scottka Would you be able to give an idea as to how these 3208s are so efficient on fuel?? I'm NOT complaining at all, just amazed how much work they do using so little fuel. I personally think mine is only second in importance to the skid steer(NH lx series)!
Old blue is perfect Mike Love it.
Good Luck with the new dump truck. I like “Old Blue or the Blue Bomber” The tow truck was amazing.
My uncle had one back in the 70s it hauled a lot of sand and gravel.Brings back some great memories.
Mike, I think Old Blue is a perfect name. In NC older trucks need only pass a safety inspection. Check that out in PA. Love the wood stove, it will feel great! I love the new toy!
Mike - Thanks for sharing the latest purchase. My first car smoked worse than your "new" truck. When I left a stop sign you would see the car behind me emerge from a thick cloud of blue smoke. I carried a gallon can of bulk oil in the trunk and filled it up when the oil light came on. My friends and I would laugh and laugh about the smoking part of every trip through the city. Blessings to you and the family. Hi to Melissa, Hunter, Levi, Eva, and the pooches.
I had an old oil burner also, never bought oil for it, had a friend give me drain oil from oil changes at his service station.
Cool Video Mike, Nice Score on "OL Blue" -R- "Blue Smoke Special". Great Job Mat and Dakota! 👍👍
Good morning Morgans and friends.Happy Spring 2022. 34° cool & damp this morning but it's suppose to be a beautiful day. Hauling some chicken manure for compost today. Had a great lunch with brother @old man fred yesterday. What a great guy! Hope all are well and safe. Have a day and we'll see you all down the road....
Good morning Michael. I hope you and Fred had a great time meeting up. You both sound like great folks. Have a day as Mike likes to say lol. Wayne in Ohio ..
@Wayne Barnett thanks friend and we sure did. Fred is a good man. 👍
@@HallnoutMhall,
Evening Brothers,
On the road from 6:00 this Morning until 5:30 Central time! It was 80° in east Oklahoma when I got here.
From Indianapolis to Pryor Creek OK!
@@HallnoutMhall,
Loved meeting you and Trina, Michael, nice to put faces to names!
Wayne!😊👍
I'll go along w you and others, "old blue" fits pretty good. I just love the way you introduce people and interview them. You're very good at it. I am anticipating your trip to hook n haul. I'm happy for you Mike. You've mentioned needing a dump truck and this one will serve you well. If you had a welder, you could fix the holes in the bed. Can't wait to see it in action. Who knows, a little at a time, you may get old blue road legal and hauling 2a limestone to the Morgans! Sweet video Mike, thank you very much!👍🚜❤
Parking with the box raised part way up when exposed to rain and snow is good so it drains and dries, with minimal rusting inside the bed. For this method to be effective, clean out the debris.
Good morning from Gulf Shores ! Love the Truck ,It reminds of Andrew Camarata and a dump truck he has .I like the name "Dumpy"
I have a 1977 f600 dump. The twin lift booms are super and can dump as much as you can put on the truck! Yes, trucks came with either 330 or 361 industrial motors. I have the 330 which is a bit under powered.
Mike with all the nice new stuff you have this old Ford has caught my eye the fastest! I’m glad it has the diesel swap. I have a F700 with a log bed, I no longer use it but keep it around because it originally belonged to my Great Uncle. We also have two older medium duty International trucks that get used regularly and just recently bought two International school buses. Looking forward to seeing your old truck in action! Take care!
Nice truck Mike! I had to laugh when you said the frame was in good shape, probably due to all the oil leaks, haha! Will be a handy piece of equipment for you!
I love your new Workhorse. Congratulations.
lol Mike the cloud showed up before the truck... love it you got a deal.
Greetings from No VT - Awesome truck, I suspect you will get a lot more than a couple of summers out of that truck the way you maintain and regularly service your equipment. That old iron has a lot of hours left in it.
I LOVE IT!!! NICE!!! By the way, the bouncing speedometer can easily be fixed - unhook it from the back of the speedo and from the transmission, pull the inner cable out from the speedo end and clean it and as you reinsert it, put a little lube on it...presto, fixed! Otherwise, eventually it will break.
Thanks for the tips!
@@OutdoorsWithTheMorgans I know you're not planning on putting it on the road, but with my OCD, that would drive me craze! Love the videos...keep'em coming!
Good buy Mike. First time comment guy but watch you ever day. Stuck in the snow in Winnipeg Canada!!!
Love the new truck. A nice old Ford truck. My wife and I are big Beatles fans and the old truck looks like a "Blue Meanie" should get alot of work done on your place with it. Love the channel can't wait to see the old Blue Meanie getting the work done.
Don't ever work on it unless the bed is blocked in the upward position! I know that you take precautions with all that you do, but just a note to the wise!
Good luck with your new dump truck! Hello from out here in beautiful western Colorado! Keep up the good work! Norm and Lexy :)
Bluford is the new truck name.
I love it
Hi Mike love the truck , give it a service engine oil ,filter and especially the air filter , sometimes they get forgotten
Cheers from Aus
I doubt any of those were forgotten, the truck is 48 years old with a newish diesel. My concern would be that lug bolt.
Congratsulations Mike. Buckin would be thrilled as this is his era of Ford's..
Actually, That’s a really nice dump truck given its age. My thoughts are it’s old diesel fuel that’s sat around a while and the injectors are somewhat clogged probably the cylinders are carboned up just from lack of use. Walmart makes a cheap injector cleaner ($1.58) which you could put in a few bottles in the tank which should clean it out. The smoke can’t be from a bad ring/oil seal/valve because once it’s at temperature the unit stops smoking. The bouncing speedometer is due to a broken cable who knows is still in place from the transmission to the dashboard, easy fix. The few other things to be street legal, you might want to consider then you can take up 79 to 422 and back that should be enough to loosen everything up and clean out the engine. Just my thoughts. Hope these gave something to consider and were helpful…Tom
Am a Ford fan from Z.A. you won't believe how jealous I am reading this. I am like the Ford from the good old days (76 years young
Honestly I find Lucas fuel treatment to work the best, especially on a unit that will sit more than used.
truck like that should come with a "Camarata Property Maintenance" decal!
I like it Mike. I need to find me an old dump truck for my farm.
I like "Henry". because he's a Ford. Smoke is good name too.. Years back, we had a 74 Ford dump truck with a V8 and 2 speed axle. Ran forever but did use some oil. Ratty interior reminded me of it when I saw your new buy! Congrats. Ron.
👍👍👍
Nice old truck! I've got a '73 F 350 dump truck. 6 cylinder gas. Starts and runs well even in the coldest weather. Love that old iron. Sometimes I just take it for a drive out through the country for fun. Hi Hunter!
LOL what a great video Love the blue Genie as you were coming up the hill.
She’s a solid dump truck mike. Can’t wait to see more
Can't wait to hear Melissa discussing this purchase with Mike on camera. Should be a lively spar.
Love those old fords
I get nostalgia when I see the steering wheels
Nice buy
Won't have to worry about mosquitoes on the OWTM property anymore! Love it, looks great. Would go well with my 1961 Allis Chalmers D15. Take care,
Sweet deal saw it coming u end up w a dump truck by watching your videos and how things are ironing out . awesome keep it up enjoy the videos hope all is good
Wow, that truck is awesome! Perfect for the property and will be great in tandem with the skid loader. I’ve been browsing dump trucks in Texas for off road use, and I haven’t seen anything like that for less than $15k. I’d say you got a smokin deal. 😏
Definitely a smoking deal! Lol
Those old Fords are pretty much bullet proof! Perfect addition to the fleet. A road trip from Andy and his kids at Farming Fixing and Fabrecating would have your truck looking like a 2022 model! And road ready!
Some of these old trucks are better than new ones!! My dad was and excavator/landscaper bought an old truck I went with him to the big city of Richmond VA to get dump bed installed. I was 6 or 7 that truck worked many years in his business!! I think Old Blue is a good name. BTW it was a Chevy i'm a Chevy man but open to all brands of vehicles!! Enjoy i'm looking forward to you putting this truck to use!! Stay safe always!!
Old Blue fits. Mike you are something else. This is 82 year old Roy from Edinburg, Va. in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. Been watching from almost the start. Keep up the good work.
Now the fun begins !!!
You won’t regret the Ford. That was the first year dump truck I bought ‘74, F700, I think it had a 370, I’ve had several F700s.
Love your channel.
Remember Mike the smoke from the engine keeps the bugs away in the summer. Works for me.
I probably would name it after the (super nice guy) who had and took great care of it sense it was a 1 year old baby ... A Great showing of Endearment, Name Sake never forgetting her pass. Congrats Buddy 🤔🤗🚚 !!! Fm. Lth.V.Mich.
Mike this truck is you. Great pick up. It is in really good shape. This truck will be so handy for you, a great match for your excavator. Have fun and be safe, farmer rod
Mike, good morning from Dallas. Old Blue is the name I like. Perfect for that truck. Sure will come in handy at Camp Morgan. Well wishes for you and your family.
Ps paint the dump kobota orange 😁👍🇺🇸
Converting that old truck to the CAT 3208 diesel must have been quite the undertaking if it was gas powered originally. Convert to air brakes, and what about the transmission etc?
Couple hours with some rollers n paint and Ford will want it for their museum! Nice buy, have fun.
Love the back up beep lol. I drove one of those when I roofed mine had a high/low transmission if I remember a button that changed it. Took me awhile to get use to that shifting. That’s the name I’d of chose. Old blue
Scamp One is a Home Run! Personally I would keep the name on it because of its history and the story that comes with it. But my suggestion is MORGANATOR..
If you’re tall enough, you can look in the window and watch the fuel gauge as you fill the excavator 😉
Ok. Get those doors some OWTM magnetic decals. You've already got artwork!
reminds me of my dad... nice, new tractors and equipment, and an old pile dumptruck! haha
Awesome gem you got there. Will be very handy and won't wanna get rid of the ol girl. 😁👍
That’s one sweet truck! It even comes with a mosquito fogger! You need to trick it out with OWM decals on the doors!
As an apprentice I loved working on those. Although it sounds like an 1160, if it’s a 3208 even better. Turbo 3208 clears up the smoke.
' Blue Bayou ' , a Linda Rhonstat ( sic ) song . With the truck being parked inside really saved the truck from being eat up from the salt . Great video .
CONGRATS ON YOUR NEW DUMP TRUCK 😉
I had an old tandem axle chevy straight truck that we called OLD BLUE. Great name and will fit your old truck we.ll.
Good catch on the truck, I will not be surprised to see it one day with tags on it and the trailer and a Kubota behind it going down the road.😁
