- Including a covered run is essential if you live in a cold climate like me. This will provide a nice, dry outdoor space for your flock (especially if you wrap the run with plastic - highly recommended!). My flock enjoys basking in the sunshine, even on the coldest days!

Rock and Roll!!! Thank you for great guidance. LoL Ryan was wonderful too, go team go! It’s such a great time to follow your tutorials. Even better since you just moved to your forever home… so many projects. Thank you Jesus ❤
Thank you for your support! So many fun projects happening, and so many more on their way! :)
Greetings from the Brainard Lakes area. I am about to build my coop and run, and you gave me some ideas for the roof. I am looking at getting my birds this week and do the build while they are in the brooder. Thank you.
Good luck!
That is a lot of work! Good job on finishing the project.
Lucky 🐓 🐣 , they got very good owners!
It was a big project, but we're so thankful to have a safe outdoor space for our flock now :) They love it!
We moved to Colorado from IL and gosh do we miss Menards 😅😢. Thanks for posting this info. Hoping to have my coup and run done by spring this year!
I have a love/hate relationship with Menards, but it sure is handy!!! Good luck with your coop/run!
So I've watched all three videos... from your repurposing the shed into a chicken coop all the way to finishing the run❤. I've just moved up north in Indiana and though we seldom get colder the -5 -8 I really needed ALL this info. I happen to have an old shed similar to yours so I now know what to do. my runs have always been kind of boxing and I was intimidated by tresses you two made it so plain and easy. So this go around the girls 🐔 will have a dryer & more attractive structure with stronger roofing to hold the snow I've already ordered the plastic to go around the run. Question ❓ how did you make the huge grain feeder you have?
I will see if I find a video on it.
Anyway thank you so much I was feeling overwhelmed not sure just how to transform the shed into a good coop and now I am so motivated knowing just what to do 🙏
I'm so glad to hear that my videos have been helpful for you!! The grain feeder is super simple! Just buy a big garbage can and then buy this kit: geni.us/AmazonChxFeederPorts You've got this!
❤👍Good job!, you two!
Thank you so much!!!
Thank you! Just ordered grow light, seed (photo) storage box, seed blocker, and Purple Cow Seed Starter!
Wahoo! You’re off to a good start! 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Will copy some things for sure . Thank you for sharing.
You're welcome! :)
Super! I like your commentary and explanation along the way.
Awesome, thank you!
I LOVE your chicken coop videos! We are going to convert our 8 x 12 garden shed into a chicken coop and build a covered run. It gets quite cold in northern Michigan, too!! QUESTION: How large is your covered run? What was approximate build cost? Thanks!!!❤
Exciting!!!! I believe it’s 12x16 and I’m not sure about the cost - sorry! We repurposed a lot of materials that we already had on hand. Good luck!
Imma come be a chicken at your new coop
Do you remove the plastic during the summer? Thank you
We do so that it cools down in the summer and allows for good airflow. We can usually re-use the plastic for 2-3 years if we're careful about taking it down (and secure it using furring strips).
@@thehomesteadingrd thank you. Doing this for sure .
Do you recommend a certain type of plastic?
I do! You can find out more about it here: thehomesteadingrd.com/chicken-coop-winterizing-6-helpful-tips/
Paint your hardware cloth black and you will never see it again.
It's on the to-do list! :)
And neither will the predators and they’ll see your birds that much better.
@@PlayWithSunshine they can not eat hardware cloth, bot
Curios, not critical. Why not use the hardware cloth all the way up the coop?
It’s expensive! Otherwise I would
