Definitely the best premium, does extremely well in air if used right, and can even be very good in a CAS role in some situations (Ground battles).

So im in a situation where I need to grind us air tree because I want and need CAS. Now don't get me wrong but I suuuuuck at air rb (situational awareness when I played my A5C was horrible) what should I get to aid my us tech tree air Grinder?

@@phantomvulcan2206 the TRAM has really good ground ordinance if you’re looking for a good CAS aircraft. Same with the A-10 early, but it’s gonna suffer against AA. Both have AIM 9Ls which are disgusting at their BRs
I have it and my only issue with it is the Aim-9H. That missile is only useful against the most thoroughly lobotomized enemies. Great plane.
Lead it as hard as you can it really helps.

Best way to get kills with it: 3-4km out from above and behind the enemy, most enemies won't notice you and the trail will be gone by the time they turn around.
1-0.5km against a low speed enemy, most will dump flares but it won't matter as they can't pull hard enough to make them work.

Aim9H is much more flare resistant than Aim9G, which is a welcome upgrade compared to the F-4J

Just yesterday I fired a 9H at 0.9km against an enemy F4S and, even though it dumped 6 flares, it still went right into its ass

AIM-9H has better track rate(20 degrees/s compared to 12), so it is much less likely to lose lock on sudden manouvers.
So I am a little late, but track rate really does not matter above 10, since the stat is essentially the missile's responsiveness time for updating the lock (you know, making sure it's still tracking a heat signature and all). Now, it certainly doesn't hurt to have more of it, but this stat only matters if the enemy decides to yolo a 12-13G turn in a last-ditch effort to make the missile go inert from losing the FOV of the signature. Needless to say, such turns bleed so much speed that even the Phantom II, mid at dogfighting as it is, will make short work of them.
4:31 the only real difference is a hidden value in the missile file. The seeker track rate of the Aim-9G is 12 degrees per second. The AIm-9H's is 20. Theoretically, this allows for sharper movement as higher aspects assuming you have some airspeed. Or it allows for a cleaner track on VIOLENTLY maneuvering targets. Save for that, nothing really for what can be modeled in game outside failure rates (please god no).
The difference between the Aim9H and the Aim9G is that the Aim9H is supposed to be a little bit more flare resistant. If it actually makes a difference I don't know.

It's amazing keeping in touch how war thunder is going on now even though I've completely moved on to BMS and DCS now (I left afew months / year before the F14 launched)
as i am already in the 10.0 - 11.0 area with my Ground Forces on the US Tech Tree, i got this one simply to have something to help me grind the aerial aspect of it, as well as to have a plane to give pretty effective backup to teammates as well as Squad Mates.
As far as the cannon pod goes for the F-4J/S, I feel it's a preference/scenario thing. Most times, I will carry a pod for that backup firepower. However, if I'm in a larger squad and we're working coms, I may opt to ditch it in favor of that extra performance boost for BVR. Then I just orbital strike people with the sidewinders. Not always a good idea to run without, but it has its times.
F4S does get a radar lead for the 20mm, which is a good learning tool for people who haven't had to dogfight at top tier before and so don't know how much to lead (usually its about half of your screen)
The only complaint i have about the f4s compared to the f4j is that it is a good bit slower due to the slats. For a missle bus id rather take the speed but with the big maps every game i think the f4s is the best premium until you get within 15km of targets then id differ to the mig23ml. It also basically gets preferred matchmaking by having to fight less f14s
"Reaction time" is better on the on the 9H in the game files, no idea what that does...
Depending on who you ask, there is either no difference between the 9G and the 9H, or the 9H is a lot more flare resistant (there is no proof of the latter in the game files). Technically the 9H is better than the 9G but the difference is marginal I guess"

I impulse bought this thing after going on a huge loss streak in the Mig-23M.
Honestly one of my best spending decisions yet. The bundled in premium time let me geind all the way up to about the F-100 in the tech tree, going from pretty much 0. That much grind in 2-3 weeks is not bad.
It's actually a great plane to learn radar combat on, as it doesn't have an overwhelming ammount of radar modes, just two, plus the ACM and HMD versions of both. It shows the differences of pulse and pulse doppler great, and I say it prepares a pilot for top tier combat leagues better than the F-5C can.
If you grind out the F-16/F-14 in your F-5C, without touching anything else, you'll have no god damn clue how the mor advanced weapon systems work and you'll end up resorting to the ol' reliable F-5 tactic of "hold elevator untill enemy in crosshair", which will get you killed at top tier

cool tip, when using the phantoms sidewinders with hmd dont fire the missle if the target you are tracking is above your canopy. The missle kinda just doesnt track the target after launch as you see in this vid 13:46

I'm curious why you don't use the rectangular radar? Maybe it's because I'm used to DCS, but the overall SA and picture of what's in front of you is so much better in the rectangular radar; and you can easily see the delineations of your high/low probability to kill when using BVR missiles.
I loved the F4J, don't know if im stupid or what but when they were both 11.3 I did better in the F4J than the F14 . It took me 2 days to get the F16 with out premium or talisman.
I preferred the F4j to the Tomcat all day.

@@Leon_der_Luftige During the Tomcat's reign as top dog, everyone had both, a) a hard on for F14s. And b) in a battle full of Tomcats, on both sides, players (especially F-14 pilots) didn't feel threatened by the F4; it was quite easy to jump them.
I will just wait for the DCS F4E to be released.

@@FreakishWizardthegamingwizard and performance wise. Leading edge slats (more than the F4E so better performance), best armament (7f is the best the phantoms get, only the J also gets it, and the 9H is slightly better than the 9G).
Not really a replacement for knowing what you're doing... but that is really just positioning in that range so... just show up to the battle at the right time, and click on your enemies. Pretty easy... not sure about fun, but certainly easy.

At 2:05 how did you get your radar to lock immediately?? I always have to manually lock my radar
The F4s is a surprisingly good bomber so long as you know how to hide from enemies. Unlike other jets such as the F-14B or the F5c that have a great top speed and so can get a base before the enemy is ready to fight, the F4s is sluggish and much slower especially if running a full bomb payload and so it helps to know how to fly low, notch radar, and just avoid being spotted in the first place. I can get usually 2 basses before needing to rearm.

Its just another radar mode. You have SRC, ACM, and HMD.

If you are stuck in Tier IV JU288 prop hell, the F5 is more welcoming to top tier.

The F4s can actually retain energy decently in shallow turns. But if you yank on that stick and pull the surface and leading edge flaps along with the Ailerons you stoppin.
Also people miss that you can radar Slave the AIM9H
Also yes it is worth it to fly without the gun pod. You really only run into situations where you need it when you don’t have it BECAUSE you are just flighty more maneuverable and quicker. So then you put it on and lose just enough of both to miss the opportunity to use it 90% of the time and just get slower for using it.

I bought the F4S a few days ago and played some 2 dozen games but I’m struggling a bit.
It’s not all on the plane but I personally having some issue keeping a radar lock people. I typically try to get a lock and fire the sparrow at 15-5km, but feels like doing so gives my opponent ample of time to notch.(or even just a mild turn feels plenty enough to confuse the Phantom radar) Should I try to lock at a even closer range so it doesn’t tip them off?
The other thing is how chaotic 32 player match is at top tier, it snowballs really hard often one fur ball decides the match, and me being an average player feels really powerless to affect the match. I can somewhat hold my own in those small engagements but in top tier that feels very uncommon, at least compares to 10-11.0. At that BR bracket I can be on the offensive while juggling a bandit on my six as long as I keep out of his guns and have flares. However in top tier I feel like I’ll get killed by radar missile if I take my eyes off RWR for a second. Are there any general pointers for top tier gameplay that could help?
I realize that’s a whole lot of questions and I appreciate your time!
The F-4S' radar is great and honestly really reliable. However, I only realized how reliable it is once I understood exactly how it works. Watching some videos about how pulse Doppler radar works on YT might help a ton in terms of gaining insight into what you radar can actually see, and what it can't. This doesn't have to be a WT specfic video, there is a pretty good explanation of PD radar from James May for example.
Personally I fire the 7Fs around 6km, but only at targets who I'm confident do not have enough time / space to notch the radar.
16 vs 16 players was a horrible change. The best advice I can give is:
- Hug the deck; all radars loose track when you get close to the ground.
- Keep your speed up; don't turn / dogfight with individual enemies unless you are very late in the match.
- Try to force as many headons as you can.

So I just got this plane on Xbox and I’m running into a problem where in rb battles the Aim7F does not want to start locking onto a target that has already been radar locked. But this works just fine in the test drive. Is there any way to fix this?
the problem with the phantom is that was designed in the ERA of mig 17's but finds itself against mig 23's and su27's
2:48 i have just reached that point, slaughtering Mig 21's and Mig 23's does get boring after a while, but with 15 750lbs bombs you can kill 2 bases and then go and missile fight like normal. In a normal game with 1 or 2 kills you can get 4k rp, with bombings that's 6-8k. In a good game, you can get 12k rp with no premium (3 kills, 2 bases). Whomstever, you will get mobbed before even getting bombs out in 1/4 games.
had 80gaijij coins and bought f4s today, playing for 2 h and I'm very happy, watched this video and was with my friends on discord and in the second game i got 5 kills lmao, 2 F16 and 1 mig 29 and other f4s killed by me , those sparrow missiles on head on are OP, even had a few kills from 30km away lol

I’ve bought an embarrassing amount of planes and regretted most, if not every purchase.. aside from the phantom. Even after reaching top tier through research it’s still my best plane
here is a question, i have upto rank 6 US air i have fully researched a few of those planes, i have the F-5C and its just not my kind of plane i everytime i go to grind US air its like torture i hate the F-5C (i know its a good plane and people love it I just dont like it one bit) I fate the missiles it has, the constant uptiers were i dont have the weaponry to actually do really well in a uptier, its hard to explain, i do have great matches, i do love planes, i play the russian planes too, and i love those, i only get burnt out with the USSR planes, US it is just not fun anymore. ive stuck to russian ground lately, but as the F-4S came out i will admit ive been tempted. should i or should i not?
I got 4 and 4 with both IR and Radar missiles and recently I have found that I'm pretty much averaging 2 kills. Daily ace or two. It's a fun plane, and if you're already top tier you will whoop ass in that tier

Would you recommend the 23ML with the same idea of grinding the tree if I already have the 25K? I'm almost grinding the Rank VI's necessary, but I'm much more inclined to talisman the SMT and later, when there's a sale, buy the Mirage F1.
Not sure if F1 is worth the money. Either i'm doing something wrong or the plane is shit but i'm having much easier time grinding with Mirage IIIE. F1 doesn't manouver well and radar looses target randomly.

I was thinking about the F4S but watching this made me realize I should just talisman the 4J, But the question is what is the best loadout to run for Bombing bases?
You can run 6x500LBs on the wing pylons. 6 on each wing, 12 in total which is plenty to destroy a base. Thjs way you can still carry all your missiles and a gun pod as well.

Could do a video on the German MiG-21 Lazur M.. all MiG-21s catch my attention.. i still remember the MiG-21F-13 when it came out yeah it had 60 rounds but I basically circled the enemy staying above 1000kmh as they tried catch me and stalling and I looped over and killed them..
I am at a major stand off between the F-4s and the MiG-21 Lazur M I love both equally but only going to pick one and would like a outside opinion
Edit: putting bombs on the F-4s Phantom is really smart... I was on a a Ec map with the F-5c equipped with 2 missiles and 18x 250kg bombs, by the time I took off the F-4s wad already 3-4 clicks from me with the 6 radar guided missiles, the 4 9hs and bombs..
Let's just say this a Tu-4 can take off faster than a F-5c loaded with bombs and missiles..

thing is, with the f4s you get a much higher SL and a much lower rep cost in addition to the upgrades to the airframe itself

how did you look behind you while controling the plane ?
Note: F-4S also gets HMD which is a huge upgrade but imo not worth $70. The lack of all aspect IR missiles, especially ones like R-73 makes it not as useful but in rear aspect you can still pull off some high off boresight shots. I have the MiG-29 and the HMD is definitely a great thing to have.
The F-4J also has the HMD.

For those who enjoy the F-4J, this plane is still worth 70$ even if you have the entire tree, it's a premium. So you get to use your favorite airframe with the advantages of:
1) when a new plane comes out you will research it fast.
2) you will make a shit ton more money due to SL boost from it being a premium (without needing premium time)
3) it's a premium so it's repair cost is actually sane and affordable for normal people. Basically impossible to go negative unless you literally head-on everyone and not fire a single thing and just die with the SL boost.
4) you can be more relaxed and try new and fun things due to not needing to worry about losing SL. Basically you can have fun and not need to be a sweat.
The only thing I can say isn't great about it is that the flares are upwards firing rather than downwards firing which IMO and in my logic would be better.
I do agree with tailsman for the F-4J but the F-4S would save me having to grind almost the top of the A-10 late tech tree bc Gaijin decided to bump up the F-14A to rank 8 so now I can’t unlock it u til I get the A-10 late so 1 the F-4S w the 17 day premium helps unlock the F-16 and counts as having a rank 7 fighter 🤷♂️

- I don’t know yet how to use radar missiles
- I have not started grinding the USA tree but am considering it for after I finish soviet
- Getting tired of base grinding and want to use missiles instead

If you’re willing to put the time in and understand how to get kills and more importantly how to defend radar missiles it’ll probably treat you well. Be patient as top tier can be a learning curve.

@@TRtraybloxeey probably the best decision honestly. I love the idea of the F4S but then I remember that I have the F4J and it’s alright, not 70$ worth of alright. Being able to turn a little better won’t change that. However I grinded F5C for a long time and felt lost when I got in the F4J because of the radar.

@@yuxihuang6852 Technically Pulse Doppler Velocity (PDV) and standard PD are slightly different, but it really doesn't matter for your ARB experience.
Essentialy:
PDV displays the difference in velocity and has no IFF.
PD displays the range to target and has IFF.

Aim9H has better seeker than 9G, meaning it tracks better than the 9G at closer range near end of flight.
try the russian r27ER, those are currently the best bvr misiles in game. Anyways if you want the best FIGHTER premium in regards to SPEED, ARMAMENT, SUPERSONIC ACCEL AND SUBSINIC ACCEL and dogfight maneuverability. the mig23ML es th better option. But if u wanna stomp playas then get a 10.7 or 10.3 premium plane. such as f5c, kfir Kanard.
Funny thing is I can bomb a base and still get a kill with the F-5C and actually did it in a 12.0 lobby just for shits and giggles. Got over 12k RP just in that one match.

I use this jet only in assualt air arcade due to lack of experience, is there a way to get multiple radar locks and not have all 6 aim 7's hit the same bomber, because currently thats what is happening and am prefering the mavericks on the a-10 more than the aim 7's
... The aircraft isn't capable of tracking multiple targets while locked, so no. Every missile fired after the first was basically a waste (unless that first misses somehow).

Maybe not in the game but the Phantom might be the best historical proven jet dogfighter. Also holding the only supersonic gun kill in history.
Pretty sure the F-15 has the best dogfight record. Hard to beat, no defeats.
