    An old timer once told me, " its not just about what brand name you have, but also knowing how to use it". I hear ya about not getting carried away on just the tool but also concentrating on honing your knowledge and skills.

    I have to say that 40 some years ago I was starting out as a young Tech and a older mechanic took me to the side and told me about getting sucked into the tool truck wallet vacuum. he show me his Craftsman box With a mix of tools some Snap-on, Mac, Proto, Craftsman. you get the idea. well he said buy what works don't buy the name he said watch the other guy's cringe when the truck arrives. he was right I never bought much from the tool truck and I never missed going out to lunch with him on Friday's raised my family, and made a decent living and now I work for myself. Life is good when you are young not owing a tool man every week to make a living.

    Snap on toolboxes are expensive yeah, but they are quality boxes. I have the 68’ with the 3 long drawers and just the three drawers are full left to right. They are very very heavy and the box as no problem with the weight. You just spread everything out putting like 10 wrenches in one drawer. If I was to put all my tools into your toolbox that shit would collapse.

    You do not need that many tools. People if you're entering the field 1st time, the best thing to do is get *Box set of 1/2'' & 3/8'' impact socket up to 10mm to 32mm or 3/8'' to 1-1/4''.(They have to be both deep and shallow type sockets)* The shop will provide you with anything that's larger than 32mm or 1-1/4''. Get a *1/2'' impact gun.* Get a *Set of open & boxed combination wrench from 8mm to 32mm or 5/16'' to 1-1/4''.* Get a cheap *DMM and probing kit.* Nothing fancy. (You're not an electrician) Get a *Pry bar above 18''* A cheap *4pc pliers set* And a *4lb hammer and a Mallet hammer* That should be plenty. You don't have to but if you can find a cheap 1/4'' box set that will be awesome.

    • @singlespeedman
      @singlespeedman  Před 5 lety +1

      I paid $1100.00 for top and bottom. Hard to beat for size and quality. I would expect it to last ten years of heavy use. That's really cheap. A box better than this will cost ten times more new and five times used. I would rather have this one and save the money for tools. Tools make you money. They save you time, lower stress levels and improve your life. The box is just that, a box. I see young mechanics get caught up with wanting to buy a status symbol( A large tool truck box). I would recommend reading, learning, buying tools and making your skill level a status symbol.
