      I agree. Competition create a better work standard. And with an area as large as Houston it needs to be divided up. Also the county must force owners to maintain trees on their property so lines are not taken out due to storms.

      Some entities are just "natural monopolies". It's a known economic phenomenon.
      Power generation & transmission are 2 well known examples.
      Can you imagine 4 or 5 or 6 different companies owning the poles, wires and substations in a small area???
      If you've ever been to a 3rd world country you can see a rats nest of wires nailed (YES, NAILED) to poles in neighborhoods (talking about you Pakistan!)

      Texas Public Utility Commission: (Google the number)
      PUC won't be much help with this outage, except that it puts your complaint into the public record.
      Be sure to state that your complaint is not that you don't have power, but rather Centerpoint continuously fails to provide the infrastructure and resources needed to communicate with the public. They refuse to build a basic website that can communicate with their customers in the middle of an outage. They don't provide enough call center people to take phone calls, they don't disseminate basic information to employees to pass on to customers.
      (Not to mention they can't provide reliable service).
      Your call to PUC won't fix your problem today, but by getting your complaint into the public record, it makes it harder for the politicians to claim "there is no problem, the grid is working great".
      It's not working great. It's terrible. It's fragile, unreliable, and more expensive to the consumer than it has to be.

    We in BAYTOWN a few years ago had to pay for our smart meters. Now years ago, there was a dispute between electric lines and phone lines carrying the internet connections. I guess phone companies won that. But the electricity provider uses their lines to talk to your smart meter. They can turn on your power, turn off your power remotely. A person doesn't need to come to your home to activate your service. And by the same smart meter, the power companies know if you have or don't have electricity. By the way, internet through electric lines, i think is much better than the phone lines. And some states the smart meters were free as a part of service. Republicans up in Austin did that to TEXAS.

Why hasn't hardening happened? Why was the map broke since May? People depending on Whataburger app. Software, talent, and money could have a robust app that was accurate. All they need to is add sensors to their infrastructure so they know EXACTLY where the outages are, instead of cutting EVERYONE'S power off until they manually figure it out. Too much new tech that would make identifying the outage source without huge impacts to customers.

    • @DarkBadger999
      @DarkBadger999 Před 23 dny
