The main idea of the video is to show he was so jealous of her he wouldnt let her go out bc her beauty would make any men fall in love with her, but she is realizing by the time that he is cheating on her(bc of the horns that stuck her from the back) and also all the people dressed in black are her thoughts bc of being a prisioner of him, so she finds freedom while those thoughts are left behind and finally she goes out of the truck(that was always unstable and dangerous for her) and leaves him stray alone. IT IS SO EMOTIONAL AND MEANINGFUL FOR ME THIS VIDEO EXPLAIN SO MANY THINGS IN MANY WAYS AND THERE ARE JUST A FEW PEOPLE WHO CAN UNDERSTAND IT, I WILL NEVER STOP CRYING WHILE WATCHING IT 🥹💕
I used to be confused about the meaning of the lyrics, and I'm a native spanish speaker. But then I realized the voice talking is the man's- he's so insecure he gets jealous of everything that comes into contact with his wife, and sugar coats it so it seems romantic. Because if you look at the lyrics, they may seem even sort of sweet, or longing, but they're about possessiveness and obsession. The husband is controlling and abusive. Now, in the next song, "Tu de aquí no sales" (You won't leave from here) talks about their fight- and is where the man prohibits her from leaving the house, and then beats her up. It's also from the husband's POV. I think you guys should listen to the album and read the lyrics taking into account the storyline and content, because a lot of it is lost in the language barrier. I.e, in this video, you can see a huge amount of symbolism. The men bleeding because Flamenca's gaze is like a bullet to the chest to them (what her jealous husband thinks, that men will fall in love with her immediately and take her away from him) hence the men bleeding. Then, she's holding a shotgun and shoving olives into it, symbolizing her "bullet eyes". Her leaving the room and then returning again (she cannot leave, she's trapped). The stuffed bull on the wall represents the vigilant husband, looming over her and ironically, his gaze hurts her (when she has her back turned). The first scene represents him being so distracted over Flamenca that he crashes into a wall, and the man who broke the porcelain doll and everything inside did it in the truck- the truck had "Rosalia" printed on it. Basically, it symbolizes how the husband wrecked her inside, and the men holding guns and knives against her represent misogyny and machismo. What she did with this album is amazing and it has a huge amount of layers and symbolism I can't even begin to unpack. Either way, thanks for your reactions, I'm glad you enjoyed it!!
Wow, thanks so much for this in depth explanation, we know Rosalia puts a lot of hidden messages into her videos. But this explains everything, she is so creative in the way she does her videos. Her messages are very deep and relevant that's why we really enjoy her music, as well as her beautiful voice. So yes we will check out more of her work. Thank you so much for watching!
"and the men holding guns and knives against her represent misogyny and machismo." Hmm, "He" is singing, so other men, those who are "killed" by her sight, are threats to him? though they are just excuses to justify his behaviour since "he" looks very dominant while surrounded by armed men. Machismo and misogyny are related to underestimating women's value and hating femininity; jealously, coming from insecurity and obsessive, possessive behaviours, has not gender.
@@deadsoon Nope, misogyny and machismo didn't go hand on hand, that association came with feminism and only (barely) make sense in modern times after blurring those terms. Back then none but the nobility had really any right, but in christian Spain specifically women had more rights than any place in Europe, and the song is still about the jealous guy point of view.
I think you made some good points. However the bull represents being cuckholded. (Le pusieron los cuernos). To those who don't speak Spanish or understand the symbolism...The song is about Jealousy. All the symbols are about Jealousy. There are translations of the lyrics which have to be understood to understand the song. -Truck drivers are infamous as lying cheaters with a girlfriend in each town. -The dressing with gold jewelery is both symbolic of death and to announce a sworn blood feud. -The bull's horns represent being *cuckolded* (cheated on by a lover). Stabbed in the back by the horns. -The olive "bullets" Rosalia puts in the shotgun are "eyes" (the bull's eyes) as in "Mal de ojo" (evil eye) or a curse/spell that she is going to shoot into her cheating lover. -The black clothed figures are *Agüeros* or *Omens* - the *Ides* or bearers of evil tidings and the settling of debts. They are whispering that her lover is cheating on her, and urging her into a jealous rage to kill him. A dance of death. -The porcelain doll or "muñeca de porcelana" represents a delicate or fragile woman who is smashed in a fit of jealous rage. -The overturned truck is carrying oranges (Valencianas) which are from the Catalan region where Rosalia is from. Lastly, it's important to know that this album is a concept album. All the songs tell a story of Bad Love. It is loosely based around a 14th Century novel, "Flamenca" that tells of a man so jealous he imprisons his wife. In Rosalia's album she ends up killing him. It's a masterpiece.
It would really interesting if you could add subs for the lyrics. That way you can understand what's she's saying and you'll love her even more. The blood on the chest actually goes with the lyrics "pienso en tu mirada clavada en el pecho" which translates as "I think of your stare "stabbed" in my chest". You see, this album "El Mal Querer" (The Bad Loving??), she tells a story of an abusive relationship. In this "chapter", she's talking from her lover's point of view, who's really afraid she's gonna leave him. So, "pienso en tu mirá clavá en el pecho" it's actually a metaphor of her lover picturing her mesmerizing stare pointed at others that are not him. Just like this, there are many, many other interesting things in this song and video, and overall, in her album.
Su disco está denunciando al maltrato, comienza por ,el amor!,los celos!el maltrato?.El Asesinato..y la nueva vida después de todo esto. ..Es una Reivindicación y un SOS...
The whole album "el mal querer" tells the story of a gypsy woman whose man mistreats her. In this song she talks about how he mistreats her out of jealousy and locks her in for fear that he will go with another, but she reveals herself. That's why the album is divided into chapters, and each chapter (song) tells a part of the story. - -chap. 1 "Augurio" also known as "Malamente" talks about how the young gypsy girl marries despite how an old witch tells her not to do it, that this marriage will bring her misfortunes. -chap. 2 "Que no salga la luna" talks about the wedding (...) It is the story of a fourteenth-century book called "La Flamenca". Besos from España! 💃
Rosalía sings as she's the boyfriend. He's jealous of the girl and says things like "I'm scared when you leave, smiling down the street, cause everybody can see your dimples that appears.", which are the first verses of the song(I've tried to make the translation the most similar to its meaning).
"El Mal Querer" is a conceptual album inspired on a book written in the 15th century, the book tells the story of a woman who is forced to marry a man and their relationship. Each song represents a chapter in the book and eventhough the ending is different from the original narrative, Rosalia uses this romance to portray relationships nowadays and how our dynamics haven't really changed in five hundred years. Chapter III talks about the jealousy He feels when other people look at her and his feeling of ownership over his wife, in the book he actually locks her up so no one can ever take her away
Love your reactions because you're always paying close attention to whatever is happening on the video, instead of just talking over it. Great reactions. Keep the videos comming!
The song is sung in the pov of the guy, not hers, so he is saying that her looks can kill (tu mirá clavada es una bala en el pecho) and that’s why the guys are dying throughout the video. It’all based on a toxic relationship and how he only wants her to himself but then cheats on her
Leyre Gorostiaga Aranguren thank you so much, because I read the lyrics and I was still confused, but now that you said it was from the man’s POV it makes perfect sense now .
El disco completo de Rosalia esta basado un libro flamenco de autor anonimo. Cada canción es un capitulo del libro. El libro trata de una mujer ilusionada por casar son su supuesto amor. Cuando en realidad el tipo es un celoso y maltratador.
Ladies you are all so beautiful!! Thank you for playing our music and critiquing it with positivity. Love the “no bad language” in your video. I wish you knew the words to the song it’s very deep!! Tfs!!
I'm glad you're reacting to her videos! Please keep in mind that her videos have a lot of deep references to Spanish culture and the storyline of her album "El mal querer"
The disc is about an Occitan novel of the thirteenth century, with real characters, where a woman marries a very jealous man and mistreats and encloses her at home. The story has a love plot with another character but Rosalia focuses only on the mistreatment of women until she manages to separate herself from him, already with children. The songs on the album are linked to the story. Very summarized.
Rosalía is a very talented and she studied in the university about Flamenco studies, so she knows what's she's doing... I really prefer her in flamenco style (when she started) because she sings with a delicate voice (canta muy bonito) and with a lot of feeling in it. But she's a versatile singer and nowadays the music (mostly latin-spanish) is about reggaeton and that's where the money is, so she is colaborating with a lot of singers to make her name bigger (good for her). I'm not a reggaeton fan tbh because she has a great voice for these type of music, but she never lost her 'spanish style' that makes her unique :)
Sois tan preciosas, chicas!!.
I like how they try to understand the song and they look convinced but they are so lost. But I still love this girls I like how they like the voice without understanding nothing. Greetings from Spain
Girls, the recurrent use of trucks in her videos is a reference to her childhood and teen years because she grew up in an industrial area in Catalonia and the landscape was pretty rough and gritty. Loved your reaction!
Rosalía includes tracks in her videos because she lived in a town near of a polygon with many tracks around or something like that when she was a child, and this is something that she remembers with affection
I hope you girls could understand the real meaning of this song. it's so deep and mind blowing. the story behind this entire album is just so unique and amazing. I'm so happy that you support her.
In a time in which voice needs to be given to women, Rosalía came to tell a story of an abusive relationship to bring voice for those who can not speak. It is not just lyrics as so many songs, it is a complete story based on a book of the 12th Century turned to songs. As if we were watching a show, every single song of the album is a chapter in which Rosalia tells the process of how a relationship turns into an abusive circle, at first camouflaged in sweet words by her lover, but finishing in abuse. In the first chapter, Malamente, she told how she decided to continue with her relation, although there was different signals of whats going on, because she was love blind. Pienso en tu Mira (Thinking on your look), is the third chapter of the story and she tooks the man role showing how he can hide their jealousy into sweet words making the woman to believe he only wants to protect her. But nevertheless, he is only trying to cut her freedom. Even for us, spanish people, is difficult to understand everything, because she tells the story in a very metaphorical way. But all of us agree that Rosalia has created art in so many ways. The videos are so creative, the lyrics are poetic and the music is amazing. She achieved to mix two music styles that apparently have no common point. And, the most important thing for me, she brings a today problem to first line and make it visible in the way that she knows best, music. Thank you so much for your reaction. It is amazing to see that a piece of our art and culture travels around the world.
Ey girls you are surprise to me a lot!!! Even with the language barrier you catch the deep meaning of Rosalía songs!!! ❤️ I'm from Spain and I am crazy with Rosalía's songs, but I can understand the meaning of all images and lyrics but because Spanish is my native language and my culture is the same than hers.
Haha, glad you enjoyed!! We really can connect with all types of music no matter the language barriers. Rosalia was no exception, we love her music!! Thanks for your comment ❤❤😊
Girls, the song talks about jealousy towards your partner. She sings: "Me da miedo cuando sales, sonriendo pa´ la calle, porque todos pueden ver los hoyuelitos que te salen" , I translate more o less for you: "I´m scared when you go out smiling for the street, because everyone can see the dimples that come out". I love this song. Kisses from Andalucía, Spain.
If you want to know, all the videos and songs are based on a toxic relationship, it explains how the women feels pain, and how the men treats his couple with jealousy. Thank you for the video, I'm Spanish and I'm so proud, because the culture in Spain it's very underrated.
I'm from spain and I love your videos. I would love you to know the whole history about her album to understand better her beautiful videos and the amazing work she has done in it, it's very interesting ✨
In 3:28 the reason why there are trucks on this and the last video is because she grew up in a place where there were many truck drivers and it just represents where she comes from~ in many of her videos you can see such things ^-^ Sorry for my english I just want to help you understand it better~~ btw this was a really great reaction~♡
wooow I just loved so much your reaction girls! proud to see you like a catalan artist outside of Catalonia! actually many gypsies were mad at her because she is singing this kind of new flamenco music but she is not gypsi, what do you think about?
The whole album is based on a 13th century book "La Flamenca" that tells the story of a women who married a jealous and abusive man, at first she is really in love with him and then he starts to lock her up and hit her, secretly stars seeing an other guy and got pregnant, the husband finds out and hits her so hard that she lose her baby, after that she got mad and kills the husband, every song tells one part of the story as a chapter, this one is the part when the guy starts to be insecure and tries to justify his violent behavior. The whole album is so beautiful, 100% recommend, she's saying to us that the way to love hasn't changed in like 1000 years cuz this could perfectly be a todays story. Sorry about my English btw hehe
Wow this is so deep! We knew about the album, but I feel that you went so in depth with the album Thank you, and your English is perfect I understood everything!!
She's in an abusive relationship. The chorus says that's he's scared when she goes out on the street begat everyone gets to see her dimples, he's jealous of the wind that moves hey hair, of the sun that shines on her skin and even of the water that touches her lips etc...MASTERPIECE
The album is based on a century XIII book. "El román de Flamenca" is the title of this anonymous work, written in the western language, which tells the story of a woman called Flamenca. Thanks to their beauty, they managed to prepare a marriage with a powerful gentleman so that his father, Count de Nemours, could obtain a very beneficial alliance.

Verdaderamente lo es ....estoy tan orgullosa de ella....

I love that song too
The whole album is based on a 13th century book "La Flamenca" that tells the story of a women who married a jealous and abusive man, at first she is really in love with him and then he starts to lock her up and hit her, secretly stars seeing an other guy and got pregnant, the husband finds out and hits her so hard that she lose her baby, after that she got mad and kills the husband, every song tells one part of the story as a chapter, this one is the part when the guy starts to be insecure and tries to justify his violent behavior.

Sounds great
Beautiful Latin woman !!! ♥️♥️ Rosali !!
Olé! Olé!
