When do you think we're gonna see South Park's return 🤔
Today
Idk
I dunno
right now
Idk probably Cartman
Honestly, I can totally buy Matt and Trey suffering from creative burnout. Every South Park episode takes SIX DAYS to make, and considering everything they've been working on lately, it makes sense for South Park to take a hiatus
Markiplier friend Daniel died lmao
@@logancracraftgaming7124why is that funny to you?
I'm guessing you mean six days as in, "that's a very short amount of time to write and create an episode"?
Otherwise, six days is a really short production period for an animated show.
@@logancracraftgaming7124why is that funny?
I’m feeling burnt out symptoms too. In fact a someone in law is ordering me to take down almost everything I post. I hate that man
Actually, April Stewart who is the voice actress for a lot of the female characters said on twitter that they're going to start production on the new specials pretty soon
But then they'll be released by February 2024 if they don't crunch
@@JeskidoYT Yep, that's true but the specials could be released by November or December because usually the specials take a few weeks or a month to complete
They can’t because strike
@@JeskidoYTthere will be no new television that isn’t already filmed or voiced till at least the end of 2024
@@thestone8187 Trey & Matt are not in the WGA
Honestly, I think the reason is both burnout and HBO Max. Matt and Trey have been keeping things up for the past years, but they're still human. There's going to be a point where they have to slow things down to get their bearings. Plus, with how HBO Max/WB been treating their animated shows recently, that might add to the regular South Park schedule being halted.
Honestly they should just pull out of HBO max and move to paramount plus completely. If HBO max doesn't want to focus on presenting animation then I say take south park to the platform own by the company that owns the very channel the show airs on.
@@supergenesisstation1991 I think that would be wise for them aswell.
@@supergenesisstation1991They would love to leave HBO Max but they signed a contract so they can’t right now
@@supergenesisstation1991 They signed a contract, if they don't want to honor it they shouldn't have agreed to it. Either they give them what was pretty clearly promised or compensate them for breach of contract
I think there’s a lawsuit between WBD and Paramount regarding streaming rights to South Park. Honestly, if Matt and Trey feel like taking a break this season, especially since they now run Casa Bonita, I wouldn’t bat an eyelash. Then again, I haven’t watched too much past season 21 except for both Post COVID parts.
EDIT: Lawsuit was mentioned in the video.
The voice actor for Wendy just confirmed South Park is back in production, So we’ll see what happens 🤷♂️
woa where did she say this
So a deal was struck good
@@sonic23233 no.
Something I think about a lot with South Park is how stressful it must be to work on it in the art departments. Not only because the people have such tight deadlines, but because it’s South Park. It’s gotta be tough being semi-associated with all the controversies it’s instigated. Maybe the storyboard and effects artists aren’t getting hounded by Scientologists and Islamic terrorists, but it seems you’d still have a lot to cope with.
i have to imagine at least a few people use aliases
I never thought about that. That has to be rough when you're an artist getting whatever job you can get.
I am excited for Snow Day to come out (especially with how The Fractured But Whole ended on a cliff hanger) but I am very scared about the games release, hell a reason why TSOT and TFBW were so charming and good was since it felt like you were in and playing an actual episode of the show, and also the fact they both proved South Park works as a 2D game
The thing is I'm kinda surprised that this looks like another regular single-player game to people cause to me this looks like some kind of multiplayer match-based game with little to no story. Like Gotham City Impostors. As LS Mark says it do gives that small Xbox Live release but not just because of graphics imho.
Or did they confirmed it won't be anything like that?
@@DavidToast fr it looks like some multiplayer made to sell microtransactions
I don't think it gonna take place after that cliffhanger I think that ending was just a joke to end of the game
@@DavidToast Nope, it's a story Co-Op game that's all we know. The funniest thing is, we don't know if the game is gonna have PvP at all either lmafoooo there legit no information at the moment besides that fact you can play with 3 friends through the story.
It reminds me of a free to play online game called Happy Wars.
We also have to take in account with the Writer's and SAG-AFTRA strike.
That doesn’t effect animation… yet.
But it does affect voice acting and the writing. Since they have an agreement with a streaming service which is one of the main issues of the strikes…they ain’t crossing the picket.
so AI is taking their jerbs? haha
@@diegov1743 this entire strike could be the basis of a great South Park special
Matt and Trey do not support the strikes 100%. The whole "I'm not your buddy, guy" gags was them expressing their hatred for the 2008 strike
From what I’ve read the shows been renewed with enough content to last until 2027, so while we’re not getting an immediate announcement, we still know for a fact we have a few more seasons on the way.

Wouldnt be surprised if Matt & Tret are burnt out, South Park has been going on since like 1997
holy crap i'm as old as southpark lmao
They're probably planning something BIG for South Park.
A show like this wouldn't take such a long hiatus unless something big is being worked on.
I agree
If/when South Park ends, I hope they end on a movie. (Not one of those “special events” or as I like to call them glorified South park episodes) I hope they end on a theatrical release, just like they did in 1999.
I'm praying for another musical, this might (?) be a controversial opinion but I thought post covid should've been a kickass musical. Something about a victor chaos villain song sounds beyond cool to me
@@artsyheartsy361 I don’t know about the post covid stuff being a musical because it was meant to be depressing. I would, however have preferred if that second special was a musical. What the hell were they thinking? They made it about some random character from 1 episode that came out in 2009. That combined with the story of the 25th season (which rivals seasons 21 and 22 as being the worst season in the shows history)
They also basically retconned one of the only good episodes in S22, with the man-bear-pig stuff. I’m all up for them retconning stuff like Cartmans real dad being J.T and Token actually being named “Tolkien” but why did they have to do it to the only good episode in the season?
I think it's a timing thing. Not only with the lawsuit but also keeping their specials and episodes for times when it's going to be interesting to rip on stuff. Like, I know their saving two of these events for the election next year, they always do a big election episode. And I wager they are going to make some movies about the strikes or Hollywood this year. Or it's possible they are redoing this contract for legal reasons and we will get six episodes this fall or winter. The main voice actress for the show said production is starting up again, so who knows. I'm assuming we'll hear something in a month or so.
I mean they didnt do an election episode for 2020, just an offhand reference after the flamethrower and the pangolin
Very good analysis of the issue at hand and thanks for explaining the reason behind shorter seasons (you first revealed it in another video a couple months back, but still). I was worried Matt and Trey would get burned out after doing the show for that long, and it looks like my fears are coming true.
I think they visualized how they feel with Randy by making him an extremely unlikable, obnoxious lunatic obsessed with Tegridy no matter how LONG it's being dragged for. I remember an interview where Matt said he doesn't think they'll be making the show when they'll be 60, and although the world would be devastated by the loss of South Park, they're still human.
I don't think Matt and Trey are burnt out over making South Park, it's just that they're busy with other things rn and April Stewart even said that they're going to start production on the new specials
Plus Matt and Trey said in the season 22 commentary that Tegridy will probably exist for the rest of the show's existence because they have a lot of fun with writing silly stories about Tegridy and Randy
@@chancedream1583they definitely are the last two season have been garbage
@@photonx1235 Actually the recent seasons haven't been bad to me but they don't seem burnt out on it
@@chancedream1583 idk to me it doesn’t hit the same, everything from the characters voices, to the plot, storytelling and the jokes just feels super rushed out like it feels like they don’t actually care about how good the product is. Some of the ep from the last two seasons have funny moments but overall just feel bland & confusing at times. And they don’t even do anything controversial no more. So many real world events they could make Great episodes about & the few they did were just not well thought out at all. Somehow they haven’t made fun of biden yet.
@@photonx1235 You know some of it is due to covid which affected their production schedule which causes them to make an episode 2 weeks or longer
I’mma be completely honest, I would be fine if they didn’t release anything, and hopefully have an amazing budget for the next 6 episodes.
Hahahaha South Park doesn’t need a big budget, just Matt, Trey, some animators and a network with balls.

with them reviving Casa Bonita and developing SNOW DAY! this year, hope Matt and Trey aren’t burned out, I think they’re gonna give us something special for December(maybe a prelude special to SNOW DAY! or maybe A Christmas Carol Special focusing on Cartman and Randy)
Other people have already spoken on the overwhelming burnout they might be feeling. Keep in mind, snow days is not the new mainline game as far as I know. The main studio they run and Ubisoft hasn't announced anything yet so they're still working on that.
Its impressive that South Park didnt got into a downward spiral of bad content (at least for now) like a lot of cartoons got cause the studios refuse letting them die
because matt and trey are still passionate about south park. the simpsons got bad after matt left and did other stuff like futurama and seth macfarline now only does voices on family guy and isnt involved in writing either. matt and trey are still apart of every aspect of the production process and im sure that they still wanna put out the best stuff
Markiplier friend Daniel died lmao
They did though. It's been tripe since around season eight or nine.
@@NotoriousLightningThat's debatable at most. A debate that is surely a sign of some standards being applied.
I feel south park has fell off, but it isn't bad like the Simpsons and family guys fall off
Is it possible the lawsuit could be putting a stop on creating any of the South Park specials? They may just be stuck in a bit of a legal hold until things sort a bit
I feel they will make more episodes instead of making 2 specials because of the lawsuit
As a Denver, CO native who grew up going to Casa Bonita and it being a sort of right of passage I can very confidently say that it will probably be a massive success as it’s the perfect nostalgia trap for those of us who grew up with it. So many people who grew up on it will now want it to become to their kids what it was for them.
Matt and Trey aren’t WGA/SAG AFTRA Members. In fact during the last strike, production of the show wasn’t affected. The thing that bothers me about south park’s absence is that they had the perfect opportunity to take advantage of both the Pandemic and the Hollywood Strikes because of their 6 day production schedule during a time where the production for the majority of shows which take months/years to make were halted. Now would be the perfect time to create South Park with production for every other tv show being halted.
Where is…what??
Exactly.
i think what you also have to take into account is that theres a writers strike going on in america which could be whats holding up the specials
They’re not a union production, so probably not.
I'm very certain that Snow Day is heavily inspired by Happy Wars, the old Xbox One game. Was such a fun game as a kid and it looks almost identical so I'm excited, 3D or not.
wait, xbox one is old?
oh... it's 10 years old... 😰
@@waycnf7229 Xbox One is 10 years old this year.
I feel like the lack of specials might have something to do with the Casa Bonita deal and HBO Max lawsuit.
Most likely the lawsuit. They were lucky enough to release the streaming wars episode.
I heard Matt and Trey were not supporting the ongoing writers strike. Which I thought would've explained no updates on South Park
my prediction for this year's specials (if we get any) is that they're gonna focus more on the rivalry between Tegridy and Credigree farms.
next year's season finale/specials are probably gonna be a prelude to Snow Day, the same way ASOAAF and Franchise Prequel led into Stick of Truth and TFBW respectively.
Matt and Trey are probably just taking a breather so they can get Casa Bonita off the ground. They finally just got it open and don't want to see their new business venture flop.
They're just waiting on the full Paramount move coming next year. MAX only has rights to the show for the next year, then everything SP goes to Paramount, I feel like when that happens, we will be getting full length seasons again with more specials.
They usually announce the specials about a month before they come out so dependant on the strikes, I imagine we’ll get a Halloween or thanksgiving special then an Xmas one. Wether or not they are actually all that connected to the time of year, spreading their releases across the whole year makes sense.
In regards to the whole Casa Bonita thing, them getting involved in difficult, tedious projects solely because it sounded fun at first has been Matt and Trey's signature approach to things. Make the very first episode of South Park out of cardboard stop-motion? Sure! Make an entire feature-length film using string puppets? That'll be hilarious!
Still, I wish the restaurant does well when it opens, and that those two keep doing what they love and cranking out the laughs like they did since the 90s. Which, miraculously enough, they have been consistently doing.
The thing about the specials I think a lot of people get confused about is that they aren’t any more work than they’ve been doing for years. South Park prior to 2020 aired 10 episode seasons with a dark week or so every few episodes for a small break ran in the fall. Prior to that they were 14 episode seasons broken up by 7 straight runs in the spring and fall. Now, it’s still basically the 10 episode runs with more dark weeks in between for breaks for the 6 episodes, and the two yearly specials are an hour long, basically four episodes in total of specials. And they’re not really that special that it takes them any more strenuous work to complete, they could easily be aired on Comedy Central and be seen as no different.
We still have a few months so I'm not rlly worried.
But I never realized that one episode last season was talking about Casa Bonita
i think it might be important to mention that there's a big strike going on related to creative jobs? tho they made a whole episode making fun of the 2007 WGA strike in "canada on strike" so i get the vibe the current strike isn't gonna affect the south park episode production lol
I hope Snow Day turns out good. They have a good track record recently but the change to 3d makes me nervous, and the focus on co op makes me worry it won’t have a single player story. But I’m cautiously optimistic, and if it’s good it will definitely be the thing to make me upgrade from Xbox One.
It turns out a judge ruled in Paramount's favor, they actually won!
12:04 I refute this. The best time to be a South Park fan was when they’d do 6 episodes twice a year.
writer's and actor's are on strike, so they can't make any more episodes until the stikes are over, also, they've been heavily involved in the south park video games and working to get the restaurant renovated and get it opened
Oh my God I’m so glad that someone’s finally talking about this. I thought I was going crazy.😅
They're probably not working on anything South Park because of the writers strike that's going on, and I don't blame them if they are.

i feel like another reason why we arent getting content is because of the writers and actors strike. im sure those writers are apart of a union and matt and trey are apart of sag as well. without those people, you could never make south park. i say when the strike is over, they’ll go back to making the show again
0:57 Stan watching you Mark
If South Park took a bit of a break, I’d completely understand.
Solve the riddle, Mark
I definitely feel like the amount of stress / creative tolls that happens for writing episodes alone, is grounds alone to justify being burnt out. Not even the art requested, voice work, etc.
If we’re getting a game next year, I don’t think I would mind a longer hiatus. Last thing I need is their creative spirit killed off due to overwork. You don’t get a Book of Mormon or Stick of Truth by contract and corporate oversight.
I was literally thinking about this earlier today, I just hope people working on it are not burned or over worked
i think it being 3d is fine, they have shown that they game make a south park game in it's style and it payed off amazingly, i think its good that they're still trying to test and experiment with stuff instead of just going with what works

I wonder if they're also not doing anything as a silent protest for the writer's strike as well. I can see them doing something like that to be honest
With the writers and actors strike, there will be not anymore South Park this year.
I never noticed it was that long ago since the last episode. I thought that Matt and Trey were using AI for everything in South Park to get their episode in a week thing but I guess I didn’t notice their latest episode was that long ago
That was never the case. They used ai once as a gag in one episode.
I need more South Park episodes FAST
i’ve been wondering this for months 😭😭
South Park has something most tv doesn’t, a soul. Also Matt and trey didn’t just ditch South Park after it became popular
The show honestly just needs to end. Matt and Trey had no intention to work on South Park in their 50s and it shows
Just thought it should be mentioned, there is currently a huge writer's strike in America and that is definitely why there aren't any new episodes. With the way Matt and Trey write the episodes, I doubt anything was written in advance to actually be animated and air. It could be a burn out thing and just being overworked with other projects, but most likely the lack of episodes is definitely due to the WGA Strike not letting them.
Yes, it seems to me this would be reason #1.
@@THEDubbleHelixx They are not in the union and are not effected by it. Just like the last strike back in 2008.
@@RonS1018 None of the workers are in the union or have stopped work in solidarity? I don't know either way, but that would surprise me. I know the creators were critical of the writers' strike in 2007-08, but also sympathetic to strikes in 2018. I can see it leaning either way for them, but the issue could be the other voice actors.
@@THEDubbleHelixx Why would they stop working in solidarity? If they're not unionized, then they're denying themselves work/pay and receiving none of the benefits that the unions would theoretically get. Even if they were more sympathetic to this strike, that doesn't mean they'd also strike.

It's funny you say that the 3d south park game looks like a $5 Xbox live title, because judging by the footage from this video it looks almost like an actual xbox live title called "Happy Wars." The gameplay and top-down perspective look very similar.
Another issue with South Park is they haven't been doing full seasons anymore. Seemingly turning a season into 1-3 episodes when they used to be 12-20 or more it feels like. Even with their bs formula they're running with 5 to 6 episodes and then boom a few specials idk.
