    Your sample photos, as always, speak every bit as eloquently as you do. I've got a history of being somewhat disappointed with my "nifty fifties".. starting clear back in the 70s and my film cameras but I think the manufacturers now are taking these things seriously and they're no longer kit lens quality as proven by your video here. I bought a 55 mm 1.2 Canon FD lens from the 70s and have been using that for my bokeh monster but I do miss the autofocus and the electronic integration even though it makes a nice partner with my S5.... So after watching this about four times I just sent in my order for one of these Panasonics...thanks a bunch

    Well, after all the euphoric reviews, as a self-confessed 50 mm photographer, I got this lens for my SL-2S. Of course, I can only compare them with what I own. It doesn't even come close to my Summicron, which is more than 10 years old, let alone the Summilux. Well, an unfair comparison - but the Sigma Art 24-70/2.8 also seems to me at 50 mm and a comparable aperture f 2.8 with more contrast and therefore sharper. Always on, a viable alternative, especially in bad weather, but with the best will in the world it is not an 'over-lens'. Price and performance, on the other hand, are right!

    • @PavSZ
      @PavSZ  Před rokem +2

      The price point is totally different between this and the Leica lenses but I find those overpriced Leica lenses very gimmicy and not that good.
      This 50 is what you'd expect from a f1.8 standard lens. I can't say that it is not sharp, it is and in my opinion it is better than the Lumix 50mm f1.4 S Pro which costs 3-4 times more

    • @PavSZ

      Lumix 50mm f1.8 is S line full frame lens when Leica DG Nocticron 42.5mm F1.2 ASPH is Micro Four Thirds lens, completely different class and the camera mount.
      Lumix 50mm f1.8 is S line affordable and size matching (to the other 3) lens - Lumix 50mm f.4 Pro (I think this is the one you are referring to - czcams.com/video/rC71fmrxHbw/video.html) and two lenses in a different class (although very similar performance wise in my opinion)
      Lumix 50mm f1.8 is a wie aperture prime - 12-60mm is a zoom with not constant aperture. Images taken with it at 50mm will NOT look the same as those taken with 50mm f1.8.

    Panasonic should really release the Lumix S 35mm F1.8 soon....way more interesting. ;) Richard Wong made already a 1:1 Samples Review from the Lumix 50/1.8 S here vs the Lumix 50/1.4 S Pro, with many Pictures.

      I am not a fan of 35mm. Too wide or not wide enough most of the time for me.
      I have reviewed the 50mm f1.4 Pro before and although it is superb lens it is too big, too heavy and it costs neatly 5 times more than this ... no matter what you do, it won't deliver results 5 times better than this lens anyway.

      @@PavSZ I am not a fan of 50mm, Horses for Courses. 50mm is way too boring for my taste. I can shoot 90% with just a 35mm, so for my personal needs, it suits me way better, than a 50mm. Your Mileage may vary. :) But from Price to performance Ratio, i'd go (when i'd own a L-Mount System via Sigma/Pana) with the cheaper S Series of Panasonic, because the S Pro isn't that much better, but friggin more expensive - and way more heavy.

    Isn’t 35mm supposed to be the lens equivalent to what we see? So a 35mm on a 35mm film size sensor or full frame should give the most natural look. Where did you hear that 50 is the one equivalent to human eyesight?

      @PavSZ  Před 8 měsíci

      the question is where did you hear that 35mm produces natural field of view?
      Since the beginning of the photography, 50mm has been called a 'standard lens' and commonly known as one producing most similar to what naked eye sees images. That's not only how wide is the field of view but the distortion and the lens compression, the overall look
