  • Panasonic's 2nd L-mount f/1.8 lens has arrived! It's the Lumix 50mm f/1.8. It's the 2nd full frame 50mm lens from Panasonic and it is a lot smaller, lighter and much cheaper than the excellent Panaosonic Lumix S Pro 50mm f/1.4.
    In this video, we are going to have a look at this new lens and also do some compairson with the S Pro 50mm f/1.4 and see which maybe the better lens for you.

    24mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm f/1.8, which one is the one you want to buy? For me, it's definitely 35mm f/1.8!
    Or is there any f/1.8 lens outside these four you really Panasonic to make?

  • @dombionchi
    @dombionchi Před 3 lety +12

    Very interesting comparison, and the astro shot made it so easy to see the difference. But the f1.4 lens has a special quality that has nothing to do with conventional tests and I've read that it only shows up with photographers who know how to use it properly. (Not me, but I can see it when it's there) Leica lenses have that effect, and Leica collaborated with the f1.4 lens. It's an effect where the subject seems to be sort of three dimensional, and it feels real as if you could look around it. By contrast, other photos might look sharp and so on, but in the end, look flat, like photos really are when you print them. I think the official explanation is called micro-contrast.

    • @slows728
      @slows728 Před 2 lety +1

      Yes I have both, the f1.8 is almost as sharp (my sample is really excellent) but the 3D rendering is a bit better on the 1.4.

    I can't help thinking that this 50mm f1.8 uses 67mm filter thread, is beyond Nikon's level of stupidity, almost on par with Tamron's level. Nikon made 50f1.8s over 400g, 86mm long, 62mm filter thread, launched at $650. It was way too long, heavy and complicated for an entry level 50mm. Tamron used same housing for 20mm 24mm and 35mm F2.8 lenses with 67mm filter thread. Their front glasses look comically small compared to the filter thread. Only 85mm F1.8 deserves 67mm filter thread and 355g. Still think Sigma's approach is more user friendly. Compact well build 45mm, high quality DGDN 65mm and 35mm, superb 85mm F1.4 None of them feels plasitcy on hand.
