  • I will show you how to make refreshing iced herb tea and regular tea by using our natural sunshine to brew the tea! Such a fun thing to do! Have a look and make up some for your next BBQ!
    VERY IMPORTANT!
-Make sure all your glass containers and tools are cleaned well and sterilized. Wash and clean your fresh fruit. This tea is brewed in the hot sun which creates a temperature for breeding bacteria. So if you have good food handling skills then you will be fine.
    Supplies used:
-8 liter glass container with spigot
-4 recycled glass jars cleaned and sterilized
    -500 ml canning jar
-cold tap water or best to use purified water
-frozen berries of choice (strawberry, blackberry, blueberry)
-fresh sliced lemon and lime washed well
    -fresh mint washed well
-honey, sugar or your preferred sweetener if you want sweet tea
-teas of choice. I used Hibiscus, wild berry zinger, Mighty Leaf Green Tea tropical, Tazo refresh mint, Tazo Vanilla Rooibos, Mightly Leaf English Breakfast black tea
    -Ice cubes

I would like to ask about the fruits. Don't they go bad in the sun?

You do have to be careful when making sun tea. All containers should be sterilized and don’t use over ripe fruit. And it should be consumed within 24 hours. If you are concerned about the fruit then only add the tea bags in the beginning to steep and add your fruit later.

hi. this is so cool. one query - how long (how many days max) we can keep a big jar of tea in fridge ? obviously we both will not finish in one day. pls answer. thanks .

I made this ice tea for a party so there were several guests. If you are only making it for a couple people then try making it in the smaller litre jars. I’m not sure about shelf life. If your adding sugar then that will help to preserve it. I would probably want to consume within a few days as it is natural with no preservatives.

🙂Seems nice. How is this different than brewing hot tea having it cool down and adding the berries and mint etc? Probably super special sun power huh? Ill try it.

Just a fun thing to do. I’m in Canada and it doesn’t get real hot here but I wanted to give it a go. Have fun making your sun tea.

Can you use a plastic container?

    • @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts
      @CraftyPattiArtsCrafts  Před 2 lety +1

I wouldn’t with it sitting out in the hot sun, in case the plastic leaches into the liquid and taints the ice tea.

I know this video is 4 years old, but how long does it last in the fridge? I made way too much to finish in a day. I don't wanna give my family food poisoning but I also don't wanna dump out all that tea.

I really don’t have an expiry date for you but I’m sure you are safe for a day or two.

I use about 8 tea bags per gallon. Since you’ve got about a gallon and a half there, at least 12 tea bags should have been used...
2 tea bags per liter is about right... one bag will make 8-16oz of sun tea....

Thks Kelly. I definitely should have used more tea bags and a hotter day would have helped too!
