My wife is sitting on the sofa while I watch this and saw the klippel going around and said "What's that? How can he measure speakers without any sound damping!?". 😂❤
😂😂😂
She's a keeper!
I think that reviewing this bad speakers is important. Keep doing it.
"A masterclass in BS"
Well that's an endorsement they should put on their website :)
😂😂
@ErinsAudioCorner I bought a Fiio portable lossless* music player about 8 years ago. I could not get that thing to sound right whatsoever. Moved on from the brand because I determined the advertising promises to be falsehoods aswell. Cheers!
You are the benchmark for audio reviews, keep up the great work Erin!
Wow, thank you!
Erin thanks for your honest review. Wish other reviewers would be as honest. Helpful for consumers deciding how to spend their hard earned money on speakers and other audio equipment. Keep telling it as you hear it and see it! Rock on!
Wow !!! Just wow!!! Brutally honest review calling a spade a spade. Realy glad to see this Erin !!! 😊
thanks for taking the time (i understand it is an interesting/exciting video to do) to inform us about what is bad out there. it is as useful as it is useful to know what is good
I understand your frustration. Thanks for sharing 👍
OMG 😂 this is hilarious. I think they use the same marketing firm as audioquest. Grab your 🍿 and go check some of the cables they have too. My favorite was the one that uses gold, silver and copper separately to handle specific frequencies LOL. I really can't stop laughing 🤣.
In my country you can choose. Family SUV or Audioquest FireBird ZERO 😅😅😅😅😅 Cables are the new religion.
Love the honest review. Not many big names are as truthful as you
I would have liked to see them inside, to see how much they differ from the x-rays on their website. Excellent review Erin! I'm learning a lot from your videos, thank you very much!
Glad you are reviewing these, the construction looked promising unlike most dinosaur manufacturers who refuse to make anything other than internal reflection boxes.
Too bad they aren't good.
Awesome review! We might need to have you take some deep breaths to calm that rage tho 👀
Thank you very much for your honesty.
So, what speakers in this size you could recommend?
Erin as always good Video! Off topic, need your help.. Dirac or MultEq-X with my Cinema50 ? :D
Great shirt! I’ve been there and fame several times. Lived there for 10 years and have heard some amazing musicians. Thanks for the honest review.
is ther a alternetiv to the fiio thats also a satellitt size?
2.1 setup wouldn't help? what would be better in ths price bracket?
I appreciate this kind of video. The opposite of a corporate shill.
Oh how timely!! I had been considering these and "studio" monitors with 4 or 5 inch mid-woofers to upgrade my desktop nearfield setup. In this SP3 class would also be the Kanto YU2 and Audioengine A2+. I have the YU2's on a desktop paired with a small sub crossed over above 100hz. To my ears they are OK in the mid's and highs but maybe are tuned to provide punch with a bass peak (could be my room) but I have never A-B compared them.
It would be interesting to see your tests of the new upgraded Vanatoo speakers - both the Transparent Zero Plus and the larger Transparent One Encore Plus.
I wouldn't consider these at all. These probably have the worst response of any studio monitors I've ever seen. They must have received engineering advice from Jamo 🤣🤣🤣🤣
A studio monitor? it's a million miles away from monitoring ANYTHING.@@justinbeamon6624
Kanto YU2 has a prominent mid-bass peak ~100-200hz, probably the punch you're hearing. Not quite as "peaky" as the Fiio, attenuated by a couple db in comparison, slightly "rounded off".
If you're going for smooth nearfield response, I'd lean towards a tried and true 5" studio monitor from a reputable brand. JBL, Genelec (if you've got cash to spend), possibly Tannoy, that kinda thing.
You're not going to get ANY meaningful bass unless you get into a 6.5 inch driver.
It seems they put a steep subsonic filter and then compensated with that upper bass boost to make the speaker sound balanced. Not a bad thing to do on a small speaker, when done right. LS3/5a does just that, although the speaker is passive and the bass boost is much broader, less peaky.
Not really a fair comparison. The LS/35A is quite an expensive loudspeaker, even used as a monitor in its day. This speaker is little more than junk.
Seems more like a port tuned to the resonance frequency of the driver.
Awesome video as usual. The marketing was much worse than the actual performance..though the performance was pretty bad too. The lights were kinda cool, made me think about putting some LED strips under my bottom ported floorstanders 😊 Anyway, im glad you took the time to post the marketing BS, it is such a huge problem in audio sales. Not everyone knows better.
the dip below 1kHz might be good for desktop reflection?
Erin covers that from about 15:34 - dip's a bit too deep unfortunately.
Are those results with the rgb on or off? This speaker almost fit on the description of a product with rgb begin overpriced or bad and I say almost since those compresions test and the harmonic distortion results are actually quite impressive for a speaker of this size. It would be good it they fix the crossover and they add a conetion for subwoofer in a second version. Also I hope you continue calling out manufacturers with this type of marketing, it's really entertaining
I have FiiO R7 + SP3 + Edifier T5 subwoofer, the sound is amazing.
Thanks!
Hey which small speaker would you recommend? I want to find some atmos speaker with good directivity and low distortion at 96db peaks so around 86db from listening position Im guessing

@@ErinsAudioCornerI actually watched it but I also realized that emotiva b1 doesn't sound as good as focal aria 906 or lets say perlisten monitors. Why is that? They all seem to have decent directivity, frequency response etc? What makes them sound better or worse from eachother? Shouldn't they sound similarly if distortion is not hearable and dsp would correct the frequency response and if they are crossed with sub at 80hz? Why they still sound different from eachother?
I feel like Im missing some crucial measurement or understanding of it to be able tell which speakers are good beside frequency response, bl curve and directivity and distortion
If they only put all this marketing 'effort' into the speaker itself... I suspect it will sell plenty on marketing alone, however, most likely that customer won't return soon. For this price I would feel 'conned'. A missed oportunity, because the speaker has potential.
Thank you for again another eyeopener!
You're totally right. Choked by the enclosure where given room they could have let the mid rolloff continue and got away selling this as 'refined' to people who don't sit to listen.
What is the distance between the m audio cabinet edge and the edge of the driver?
When you held them up I thought they had smaller drivers because it seems like they don't go as close to the edge as the fiio.
That's too bad it's not getting them more extended bass for the size.
Hey, Steven… do you mean the PreSonus I held up? Or the Fiio vs the M-Audio?
@@ErinsAudioCornerYeah, I think I meant the pre-Sonus. I was just saying both of the alternatives look like the driver is smaller because the box is so much larger.
Fiio, if the sp3 measured well, would be using a larger driver for the cabinet size than most to potentially get more bass extension but it looks like that not the case.
@@stevenswallgotcha. The Fiio is smaller overall but the driver size is roughly the same.
For the size of speaker, it does seem to get more bass, because it peaks at 70hz instead of 100hz :)
@@RennieAsh Yeah, but it's a bit of a defect. Not sure we should count a notable peak like that as a positive thing... Feel like talking about a Klipsch speaker's max SPL as wherever the treble peaks the highest.
Erin I enjoy your videos and getting information. I have no idea where else I would get!......... . With that said, (Badass Shirt)
You either know or you don't.

Erin ain’t playin with y’all!
My Sony SSCS5's kick ass in the garage with 2 Elac 10s! Thanks to you, I bought the Elacs!
what DO you like in this size form factor? I need something exactly this size. I'd like to know
I’ve got a review coming soon that I think will be a very good alternative to Speakers at this price and size.
awesome thanks!@@ErinsAudioCorner I'm looking forward to seeing it. I'm ready to buy now! (My restriction is that I need something that is WHITE. *skull* )
I think you should try review Hivi Swan D200, M200MKIII, and OS-10. Not so popular brand world wide yet. But I think you'll really impressed for its quality in that kind of price range.
Audio product manufacturers have been blowing smoke up the rear ends of consumers for as long as I've been in the hobby. Car audio brands are notorious for inflating specs and overcharging those that don't know better for years.
Bottom line folks is to be an educated consumer.
Erin, how on earth can anyone get in touch with you? There's no contact information here or on your website; that can not be good for business. Anyways, are you interested in testing a JBL Synthesis SCL-2? We pay for shipping both ways. Let me know.
Hi Erin I’ve been following your videos and just recently came across your video about a year ago announcing your divorce with your wife. Hopefully it’s getting better for you.
13:30 : There's a bass boost knob on the speaker. Looks like you turned it to -8db when testing it.
Nope. Bass was at 0dB. Not -8dB.
@@ErinsAudioCorner Thank you for your response! I wonder how likely it is that you received a defective product. I purchased this speaker a month ago and used the minidsp unik1 microphone and REW software for a simple measurement in my study. The bass performance of the speaker is vastly different from your measurement results.
@@jiaqishi7448 Fiio has measurements on their site that show the same response (though, theirs has lower resolution).
To think I've been saving up for the Kanto Ora's and saw this and bothered to consider them. You are the first I've seen to expose these. Everyone else had good things to say about them.
But Zeos said they are great, haha! You're the best, thank you!
The dynamics are very impressive for the size, they deserve credit for that. But kind of useless if the port is chuffing away making horrible broadband noise.
It actually looks like it was "tuned" without any bafflestep. A -6dB highshelf from about 1k would flatten the general respons. And for the port: Just block it :P
Just typical, actually quite funny. They have been doing this for a long time with their IEM's they have turbo systems on those!
Crazy how other reviewers have these as amazingly good speakers.
🤷♂️
To play devil's advocate, are there ANY speakers with a 3.5" woofer doing good bass?
Nope, almost every speaker with a 3.5 woofer will either have anemic bass, high distortion or severe shuffling noise comming from the port. The Neumann KH 80 DSP and Genelec 8320 use a 4 inch woofer but they are probably the smallest speakers that manages bass quite well.
Use a Dayton nd91
Or kartesian make a small high excursion woofer
Tang band 3" subwoofer
But you'd need to design it or use someone's
SP3 Vs MR4 PLEASE!
I like your direct judgement! Not good ! 😅😅😅
I have the original JBL LSR305s that were part of a Massdrop "LSR30X" overstock deal (back when they were still Massdrop) and I got them BOTH for $180. And both monitors are matched to within a half a decibel of each other - it's incredible. I keep feeling like I've been missing out on better sound (and better bass, specifically) by sticking with the JBLs over the four years since I bought them, but I've been proven wrong time and time again. How did Fiio manage to make this design such garbage?!
Their measurements are at least somewhat accurate (just used a compressed scale).
The bass peak is much sharper in reality though
I can't get over the woofer size claim, like they say it's 3.5" so I guess their inches are larger than other manufacturers inches lol.
Отличный обзор!
Is Edifier garbage?
No
Oh my, Erin... This just sucks. Period. 🤦
Yeah thought I was going to buy the Adam t7v for less, and I still am. They lost me on having one speaker with all the electronics in it ..😂
Not for main soeakers... quad ESL 57 rule 😍
Seems to me these are a blend of cheap desktop PC speakers and hifi, surely for that sort of money you could buy a couple of good bookshelf speakers and perhaps a class D cheapo amp and end up with a way better result ?
I feel like this speaker has potential...lets hope Fiio gives it another round of development instead of more marketing wank.
"No bueno" 😅
They look like they were made for Twitch streamers to have in soft focus in the background.
Would be interesting to see more in-room measurements from other speakers as well.
Yet Z reviews said these are great, this is why i take reviews with a pinch of salt.
In my case you have data from anwchohc measurements and in my listening position.
This is why I take subjective reviews with a huge grain of salt.
In audio everyone is better than it's class, punching above it's weight yadda, yadda...
Fiio done messed up😂😅
😂😂
Hilarious 😂
So these might be cool speakers for a kids dorm room if they were $100
👍😎👍
did you say you were treegered😂😂😂
You didn’t like the v pattern of that speaker bro? 😂
The only V I like is the Flying V courtesy of Gordon Bombay and the Mighty Ducks!
@@ErinsAudioCorner but can you do a knuckle puck?
@@HifiVegabetter that Fulton.
Brutally honest.
Don't hate too much on them for the odd design, we should praise companies that try something new and lambast the companies that refuse to improve their cabinet design. (JBL, Wharfdale, Klipsch, and several other lazy companies come to mind. Sure it's tried and true... but we'll never get state of the art speakers that way, just more "good enough" ones that don't push the industry forward.)
The look is just a personal preference. The small size is nice but they did a terrible job tuning the enclosure properly.
We should praise companies for making a good product. No one pays a recording studio because they have nice looking speakers. They pay to receive a good product. That's what JBL provides. They make speakers ranging from $300 to 30,000. They ALL have incredibly flat and neutral frequency response at their price point. That's engineering excellence that should be praised. This company has an S tube, it's junk and a failure so not a reason to praise them. And the misinformation in their marketing is even more egregious. They should be shut down for good.
@@justinbeamon6624 I don't praise companies for making good enough products, and I'd argue that's what JBL makes: Good for the price, but pushing for loudness rather than state of the art capabilities like Genelec, D&D, and Kii. The M2 I'd argue has exceptionally ragged and irregular frequency response at its price point compared to a Genelec 8260, not to mention vertical dispersion issues... But then, it's loud.
I'd like to see more companies with modern solid cabinets that don't take 10% of the physical volume for bracing. I'm also glad they didn't use a shorter straight port as I'd like to see deeper tunings on most speakers.
Yeah, it's too bad it turned out like crap. Hopefully they improve and make something that stands out, vs making something that's "good" but not great that uses typical construction. We already have plenty of those, and it's all the same to me: I'm not likely going to buy something that's "good" because there are often dozens of alternatives. State of the art or best in class though I'd consider.
But sure, most people aren't maximizers and I'm sure Fiio could make a profit by going with the usual archaic designs and releasing a good but not great product. For me I'd prefer trying better designs and eventually getting a product out that is great, rather than using old designs and being a me too product.
Besten Dank für dieses durch und durch ehrliche, weil faktisch belegte Video 🙏🙏🙏
Es tut mir zwar leid für FiiO. Aber dieses Produkt ist und bleibt einfach nur schlecht !
Way of the Dragon 😅✌🏼
What HiFi will probably give these 5 Stars!
once brands get a reputation they start to sleep on it
I agree, I have them.. fooled by Z reviews' review.... never again.
The RGB lighting tells me they intend these to be a flashy gaming room setup speaker. The Marketing and edgy looks alone will sell a ton of these to the gamer kids.
This sucks as an owner of one of their DAPs
I've had these for a month or two now and they sound excellent in actual use. I've got a ton of experience with a ton of different high end stuff and, on a desk, these things kick ass and sound like a proper sound system. If that requires the speakers to not measure well, well, that's worth it. I bet they would sound like shit on a set of stands - they absolutely require a desk to work properly.
Go all in :) Kick those marketers in the groin 😂😂😂
The way you held it in your hand.....i would rather buy a good Bluetooth speakers. I hate it when are this small.
I understand, its totally marketing BS, that's a pity, because it looks nice (i think)
Would love to see a review/data of the Buchardt Anniversary 10. Also, great video. Glad there's someone in the scene to dispel the BS.
I believe they’ll be loaning me one for review sometime in the near future.
I wonder of thos isn't their first speaker? I think they mostly make cheap amps and dacs.
I think it is. And I hoped for better. They obviously have the means to obtain measurements because they ones they provide on their website match reasonably well to mine (once you ignore their 100dB scale). There’s no good reason for them to make such a travesty of a speaker and then call it neutral or robust or any other descriptors that defy their own measurements.

The manufacturing video for this speaker and the marketing material is soooo slick. They surely have learned from other companies how to make products seem good.

So, these speakers are using "Class-BS" amps? lol
Chinese branded ..... enough said.
Another reviewer claims they sound great, makes your head spin with these YT reviews.
I'm sure they do. Do they have data to back up their claims? Probably not.
I don’t have these tho I am interested, but everyone is latching onto this one single review saying they are shit as the gospel.
The website is BS but as mentioned, every website has elements of that.

$300. What regular viewers of yours are in the market for this? I wouldn't have expected anything from it.
There’s a fair share of people buying these kind of things. It’s not just my regular audience that needs to be aware of the performance.
@@ErinsAudioCorner For context won't you have to review other $299 speakers. And the people you need to alert won't be seeing this so I still don't see the point. Anyway, it's no biggie. I don't need to watch this particular video.

Can we conclude that any speaker below $1,000 is a waste of money?
No way. Plenty of solid performers under $1000. Even the Kali Audio LP-6v2 cost $400/pair and are excellent powered speakers.
