I wanted to watch it for years and finally got around to it earlier this year. Within 5 minutes I knew I would love it and I went through the whole thing in a week. I now have the same IBM Selectric typewriter that Hank uses :)
For those of you hoping he wouldn't die, I suggest reading the Great Gatsby. Lew's entire sublot in season 2 was a retelling of it. I didn't realize it at first, but when Lew's girl is going away from Hank at one point, and Hank says "He throws these huge parties... but the guest of honor never shows" it became painfully obvious and I knew there'd be no happy ending for Lew :/
@@tavo7465 i cannot believe it has been 13 years since that comment has been posted. i personally still re watch the show over and over endlessly ever since i purchased the whole series. i learn so much from that show and their characters. life lessons.
@@tavo7465 Took the words right out of my mouth. I watched Californication for the first time earlier this year - start to finish in less than a week I think - my heart slowed down for the entirety of this scene.
I just had a friend pass away I used to play in a band with and we had some great times. For some reason, this scene was one of the first things that popped in my head. This scene now has new meaning for me.
They come back and "Visit' & Leave "Signals" (Associated With their Life & You) That they Are There. talk to them like You Know they Are There, They will Smile In Love!!!
Same here. Just lost my bassist and I'm playing "Keep Me In Your Heart" at his memorial. This was the first song I knew would fit. Sorry for your loss brotha
Hank could have quite easily ended up dead as well. It was only luck and the last second decision not to partake that meant he never died the same time as Lew. Lew was a Tier 1 player in the LA drug circles............ whereas Hank and Runkle were what you'd call Tier 3 social dabblers. When Lew died in front of Hank, it think it really hit Hank that he'd been playing with fire and had come close of losing his life. Still, I thought Lew was the best main guest star character for the entire series.
I can't believe I actually shed tears during some of the scenes from the secodn season. I never thought I would like this show, but I love it. So sad the Lew Ashby character is gone though.
there are 0 dislikes. one of the few videos ive ever seen that have none. it makes me happy to know that people still appreciate the magic of this scene
Honestly, lew Ashby was the best side character for the show, everyone one else was just either too ridiculous or just not that interesting. Lew was like Hank, but he stuck out more. What a shame
So, yes, I just cried in the library while watching this. Then again, I'm having a I-love-me-some-CKR week, so the tears are welcome. Thanks for the upload!
They suckered me in... Saw that they were talking on the previews.. So when this scene started i wasn't surprised.. The minute Lew said...You know it's true what they say... I started wailing..... It was like I was hit in the gut... These writers are FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Every season had moments of greatness, but some more than others. I wish I could just steal the parts of seasons 3-7 that I loved, and conflate them down into something better.
love Californication it has been fantastic from season 1 till now season 4, lets hope that it comes back for a fifth, as i woud definatly miss all of hanks antics with women, booze, drugs and Charlie runkle, come on californication season 5. of course rock on lew ashby really great character, hilarious stuff during the 2nd season loved it
Real men can admit they cried once or twice the first time they saw this scene. It leaves you to believe he was okay but then it ends that he is in fact DEAD
Ashby ROCKED!!! You could really feel the bonding between these two characters, even when they fought! I wish they would atleast flashback to his Ashby's character in future episodes.
man I just heard a cover of this and I was like "I've heard that" havent seen this show in over a decade and had completely forgot this song existed but the cover brought me back to this amazing scene... its just beautiful
yea season 2 was the greatest of the season because of lew. it was so full of laughter and joy. season 3 was great. But lew really made watching the episodes that much more enjoying.
Fantastic opening of the final episode of season two, i love californication it is a brilliant show, lew ashby was a really cool character, really funny. i also like the fact that the video has a nice round eighty likes that is cool

This is why there’s beauty in casting friends. The chemistry... add some zevon and it’s a beautiful scene. It’s these that made the show great. Or this is the rambling of an old guy who loves the words and the rock n roll a little too much.
@shimokita2 It's from a Righteous Brother's song called "Rock and Roll Heaven". One of the lines is "If there's a rock and roll heaven well you know they've got a hell of a band". Basically Lew is saying that he's in heaven. Or rock and roll heaven. Whatever.
@shimokita2 *Spoiler for Season 2* He was referring to his daughter Becca. That's why in the end, he decided to stay in LA for her. He realizes his life revolves around her now.

@MrLuckynumberslevin Well it's not real weed in the scene but generally the more you do it, the better you'll get at it. I roll great joints now but when I started the end resulted looked more like a tampon. There are some good rolling tutorials on here too. Practice makes perfect ;)
It"s true, in the end it's all about your true love,... I'm a writer so my life sucks. But in the end, I hope, she will come back. She's not innocent so we have both our issues. But we see each other daily and it is weird to have an emotional lambada or tango, call it as you will, when we see each other, we know we want to be together but we can't. And no sarcastic joke will do. But you know, eventually everything will turn out good. It has to....

I would like a spin off about Lew Ashby and his world of party's, rock n'roll and of course about his true love!

One of the most touching scenes, I've ever seen. Love this series!
This scene is so fucking sad and so fucking great at the same time...the writers really nailed it. Its like one of my friends died.
I fucking love the bromance between Hank and Lew its even better than him and runkle, absolutely brilliant acting
I see Hank and Runkle as more of a brotherhood while these two are more like kindred spirits.

Shit man, just finished watching season 2. What a great character Lew Ashby was, he was like Hank Moody but without restraints.
for a fairly crazy show this one really hit , moved me. For being a fictional charactor I miss him...Max Random
Lew.. The only guy from the show that deserves his own show.. Wouldn't that be something?
