@AdamLZ I hope you see this comment so freaking badly. The engine oil pressure can also be low due to a small plate on the back of the block under the flywheel. On the driver's side of the engine is an oil crossover that is basically flat and has O-ring/gaskets that route the oil. As they wear down they DO flatten and you can blow an engine because the oil is not actually going through the proper channel. It still gets oil, but it will not go above a certain pressure because it starts to push past the O-rings.
I'm glad this car went to a good home! Sad its been changed so much from the original build but it bounced between support crews over the years with mixed results. Im confident you guys will get it looking proper again 🤝

Man I’ve been dreaming of the day Adam buys a Subaru. Never did I imagine it would be a full blown rally car. My dad rally’s and hillclimbs a Hawkeye as well, so this is right up my alley! I may be biased, but I think this thing needs to be resprayed in the iconic world rally blue! Stoked to see the journey this car will take you on, I’ll be following every step with great interest!
Adam already has a better Subaru in Japan, he uses it when he visits for drift week.

The Navigators Horn is for if yous catch a Slower competitor on a stage so they let you past somtime thers a windscreen washers button down there too. Forestry Tyres over heat on tar or concrete thags why it was pushing,You can buy kevar floor guards, they cover the whole floor on each side underneath and they are moulded to the shape of the floor. One of the first thing any experienced Subaru engine builder does when assembling an engine is red Loctite the screws on the back of the oil pump.

And the horn is for when you catch someone on stage so the driver can focus on driving and the co driver is responsible for letting the car ahead know to move
Some rally cars like my old one also have the washer jets and windscreen wipers controlled by the co driver

No way they have a fence post exhaust... That's gotta be the coolest part now because I used to buy the 2-3/8" fence posts from home depot and used them to fab my first exhausts back in high school. First car was a 98 Legacy GT and man that car was a shit box but so much fun. So happy to see Adam taking this path!!!

that "loose" kinda driving is exactly what you want on a rally car. When you took the Skyline on the stage you seemed to be either trying for traction on the straights or kicking it sideways on corners but on a proper AWD rally car you want that "floating" feeling the whole time. Those tyres are designed to make grip while spinning on a loose surface, you want to use the throttle both for steering but also to build grip out of a corner, which is quite different to a sealed track type car
Exactly, proper rally suspension promotes the "floating" and that's where the real difference is. It's not like drifting
to be more accurate: rally suspension is built to keep contact with the ground at all times on uneven surfaces.
the floaty feel is just a symptom that comes with that kind of a suspension setup.
@@M3LKS I more mean the way the tyres grip the ground, in that rally cars are set up to be spinning the wheels but also producing grip and acceleration at the same time, so you're not getting that sharp turning response you would on a track or even on a drift car but that's okay because lighting up all four wheels will drag you out of a corner.
Instead of mashing the throttle to get the car to rotate, you tend to lift off to rotate the car and power out - which feels more floaty than lots of people are used to, because you're always sorta spinning the wheels anyway.
But you're right, the suspension is also designed to keep the wheels in contact as much as possible, rather than maximising grip and minimising roll like Adam is probably used to.
Rally is awesome, there's a reason so many pro drivers from all sorts of racing end up getting involved, it's just a different feel you don't get anywhere else
@@helplmchoking its a rally car set up for gravel. the suspension is setup for maximum contact with the road on a loose surface where grip is at a premium - that causes the floaty feel. the floaty feel is not the aim, its a biproduct of the setup. and as someone that has been involved in rallying for 20 years - no one is setting up the car to spin the wheels or some weird shit you talking about.
cars are set up totally different for tarmac rallying and then they are much stiffer sharper. and again no one is setting up the cars to spin the wheels on tarmac either lol.

strange, looks like it has been driven without it looking how beat the underbody is, maybe its an american rallying thing. 100% should add protection.

@@rallylifemotorsport150 Not an American thing, we cover the entire underside with hdpe sheets. This was just something not done by the previous owner.
Also an american can confirm it's not an american thing. We literally have no asphalt rallies (except for maybe targa newfoundland). Almost wondering if it wore out too much and they just got rid of it before sale. But yeah first thing I thought when I looked at the under body was just like "why tf is there no rear suspension/floor protection?"

That Subaru rally car is set up for forestry rally stages.thats why so much roll. If it is setup for tarmac stage rally it would be setup more stiffer and less body roll

I actually build mostly Tarmac Rally cars its more popular here the Forestry/dirt, Forestry rallys are very rough and hard on a car but we'll get you to do Five mile town Forestry rally its smooth and lovley stages 👌 the owners of Samsonas come over and do it every year 💯 We need to get you in a Rwd rally car they are so much fun like a mk2 escort or twin cam or rwd starlet or a datsun 😊😂
Ireland has some awesome rallying! Reminds me of some of the stages here in NZ (but much closer to Adam). Great rallycross tracks too
Same here in France, tarmac rally is way more popular. I think they don't have the roads for tarmac rally as well have in Europe, but I would love to see Adam test tarmac rally.

as a previous blob eye owner, now a VB owner, it would mean the world to see this thing blob eye. a good OE paint color (in my preference) is 35J Regal Blue Pearl. was the color of my old 2.5rs i had and as far as i am aware, it was a rather rarer color. enjoyed the video, would be cool to see you possibly pursue a season of ara. i live in marquette and we actually have ara stages up here for LSPR in the fall time

Ran my 02 bugeye for years on the same engine in ralley and auto cross...never had a single issue! Trans was another story. Blew 3 before going to a sti type ra which wasnt cheap. The old subie was was one of the first shipped into the US and was only supposed to be 1 of 250. Took delivery in march 2001.
Now put on tarmac stage tyres, drop the ride height to tarmac stage and do the lap by yourself and you'll see how good it really is 😉
Probably inadvisable because there are no tarmac rallies in the US but also it's adam lz so i could see him spending money on worthless components only to find out that he can't legally use them in any event.
@@lazyboxfish7113 yeah but my point is if it was set up for tarmac it would put in a way better lap than on the squishy lift springs and gravel tyres which are pretty crap on tarmac.
Also really no tarmac stages anywhere? Wow those are some of the best ones in world rally and around the UK and Ireland championships

You have to use gravel tires and to my knowledge no one really changes their setup much since the events that do have them only have a couple. Targa Newfoundland is the closest thing we have to a tarmac rally in north america and it's not a part of the north american or canadian rally championship.

When doing laps on the compound course you should put the previous times up real quick so we can compare to other cars before you do the lap

if the 255 (or 257) blows go ej207. sure it doesnt make as much power but its a lot more reliable. make sure u replace the pickup if it hasnt been bc theyre known for dropping into the sump. i know u probably know all this adam but thought id let you know

I have some friends that participate in Rally Barbados yearly and I’ve been on the team a few times helping out. Don’t even think about making this thing nice, rally cars get beat up like you wouldnt believe. Most of them get a full ground up rebuild every year. Buy as many spares as you can. In fact Rally Barbados would be a good event for you.

Horn on the codriver side can be used to get peoples attention on the stage - also when/if you catch another competitor on a stage the codriver can blow the horn and allow the driver to stay concentrated

This. There's a company that sells full WRC-style body kits for pretty much every generation of WRX, and they look amazing. I forgot the name but I think they're based somewhere in the UK. The same company that Bucky Lasek got the body kit for his GC8 "Buckit" from.

I was huge into scoobies back 10-15 years ago and had built a few different gen sti’s over that time. They CAN be reliable to a point. I’ve found that gaining another 100hp is about the max you really want before having to really crack the motor open and start doing things like piston and rod combos, higher quality head gaskets and I always did cooling mods before I even messed with adding more boost. The brakes are fine for 400hp in the sti. Fueling is always just added safety as you already know. Cheap insurance no matter what. But getting it to breath better with intake and head putting goes a LOOOOONG way.
Really looking foward to watching and learning this Rally transition.

This video was awesome, Jimmy popping the launch control was hilarious . Grant’s cameo picking the car up was rad too. I love the Hawkeye and Blobeye but I agree with grant, Hawkeye is where it’s at. I’m so excited to see where this goes! Bummer about the weird dip in oil pressure hopefully it’s just the oil pump but sucks you have to pull the timing cover after the first day. Good luck Johan
