Going back to 1977 when hornby released 47421 I longed for one ,one Sunday a stall which sold model railways at Wembley market had one and that week I had my pocket money I saved up they retailed then for £12 a lot of money but he sold me one for £7.50 still a lot when dad was on £60 a week ,I still have it still original and in its box
Great repair hope it gets a run out into the garden when you complete that
    Cheers

The main issue with that type of motor is that isolating the brushes is close to impossible. I guess Hornby never had a thought about creating an isolated version of that part

Once I get around to building my new railway in retirement I suspect I’ll find all my teenage errors too 😂. I’ve got a two tone green 47 of similar vintage, though I did file off the paint lines before repainting it again in 2 tone green as far as I remember. Well worth rubbing the body sides flat, but of course you need to do a full repaint after.

Good tip about using the silicone sealant 👍 You could have used black tack - although it may have given way after a while?

Would be good to see how slowly it can run with new motor

Now theres an idea. I’ll do a performance test with the 47 before i send it back to Dads. I’ll upload it soon. Cheers. 👍🏻

@@dansmodelrailways7886 thanks dan. Seeing and hearing it pull away would be good. It still sounded a little gear noisey when running faster

Cut a thin slice off a track rubber with a sharp blade - use to clean wheels. No fibreglass slivers.
