The 2019 Peugeot 508 is an interesting car. It better be for the price PSA is asking for the car. The new Peugeot 508 is more compact than the model it replaces, which Peugeot says should make it more appealing to drive also in the city. This 508 GT model is powered by a 1.6 litre turbocharged petrol engine, which produces 225 hp. Peugeot compares the 508 to Audi A5 Sportback. But is it good enough to take on BMW 3 Series?
Starting price: 31 500 euro
As tested: ~53 000 euro

I just don’t care. I want one! Beautiful oh beautiful.
Hello
Best looking saloon in it's class, by far!
I think Peugeot 508 is great. That's why I have ordered one. :)
which colour?
@@MrUlas98 Sadly, Peugeot offers little choice of colour (mostly fifty shades of grey), so I went with grey artense. Was thinking of the red one, but it had to little metallic in it.
Me too and I have it now a true delight !
Me too
@@kimmern999 congratulations, enjoy it!! I am waiting for the Hybrid version (the sport Engineered one's) for to buy one
Thank you very much Marek for your quality content. You are one of the best car reviewers nowadays. Keep up the reat work.
I waited for your review of this car, I love the new PSA cars, especially this one (and I like your sense of humour in regards to french cars- ds7 review was lit😂). Thanks for your work.
Marek, needless to say it is a very good review. Thank you very much for creating such good quality content (from France)
Let me say, because I'm driving PSA-cars since 1999,except of a Golf 5, they were always different but you get used to. And maybe the customers want that difference, not to have this boring feeling driving an Audi or BMW interiorwise. Personally I don't like bigger cars so I wait to see the 208. Thx for showing us this stunning car.👌
New to your channel and I loved the video. Haven't seen a Peugeot in YEARS over here in the U.S. and I was curious - thank you!
unfortunately u mentioned not enough how beauty this car. :)
Beautiful by style, but ugly by reliability in the winter. 😭
@@autochampwandelen how ?
A good review Marek, thanks. I like the way you balance the pros and cons of this car. It is beautiful, but too small in the back at that price.
Really love this car! Have driven the 2l diesel version and wow, just wow! I’m not that tall, and nor is my family, so this size of car is perfect for us! The 3-series have space we don’t need (and weight). Good that there is something for everyone so we are not all driving around in the same cars. :)
PS. The cruise control is much better than those with buttons on the steering wheel, much easier to use when you get used to those.
I like your honest reviews
Very good review and like your self deprecating humour subbed ..
Great review, Maret - it's a very smart car indeed. It does look a bit claustrophobic inside though.
Great review and great car. I subscribed to your channel. Keep the great content.
Thanks man. This is really good quality video. :)
Annoyingly well put together Marek Marvel ;) Great and honest review. Superb but compromised Peu.
Great review. I bought the peugeot 508 2.0 bluehdi gt line 180hp on saturday in platinium gray. Peugeot's stand service car. I was looking for a suv (c5 aircross shine or new model Huynday Tucson) but...when I passed this car...I couldn't resist. And when experimenting... I was surrendered. I hope you don't let me down.
Excellent review! The 508 is not without flaws but I would still love to own one.
I think the center console is fine, there is a huge storage in the middle.
But I would get the SW.
Definitely one of the best looking cars released last year. I still don't get it why cars are so expensive in Poland. In Slovenia a 100% fully spec'd 508 costs 43.000€. I configured it in their configurator and selected every single option.
I just ran a configurator on peugeot.si, and this very car came out at 44.960.
Actually for my English reviews I use German prices, which I think are more relevant for Western Europe. In Poland this text car costs 218k pln, which is about 51k euro. And yes, I think it is ridiculous. It's worth 12k less.
@@MarekDrives here in Germany inclusive with night vision I have founded in €45.000 aprox. I don't why Peugeot fucks polish people with the prices 😒
Great review!
Nice review mate, I subbed
for me its always Marek and the his signature phrase "zee Jermans"🤣. I Appreciate your honest and straight forward reviews
Wow! Almost felt like you actually liked the car! Lol
Good to see you Marek, it’s been a while since I last received notification from your channel..
I do like the car. It's like with Alfa Romeo. You know it's going to go wrong, but it's just nice.
Marek Drives hahaha! That’s more like it. Although I don’t agree, Peugeot’s of late are really reliable. My dad had a 406 back in the 90s and he made over 400000 Km across 15 years, never had a major issue and simply had to get rid of it at the end cuz the car just wouldn’t give up!
Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder! That's the right version! :))
Good one. I'll have to use it next time :)
If this car was available in America I would buy it over all of the German vehicles because it's different and beautiful. The exterior design is striking and interior screams hightech/futuristic. I could careless about all of your criticisms except for the expensive price. It's not a cheap vehicle, but I got the idea that while you were driving it, it felt premium. So for me if the car delivers on its premium value feel, has great looks which doesn't resemble anything on the road, and a "Tron-like" interior please take my money. I don't like following the crowd and the only other car I desire as much as this is the Volvo S60R. Otherwise great review, can't wait to put this in my driveway!
its interior is straight out of Cyberpunk 2077 and I do like the Mustang inspired design of the car.
Gut gemacht 👍
Yes I like the 508 very nice. I like your review amusing lol
What a beautiful car!
great review as always . im not sure whether to go for this in the sw variant or the 5008 gt line premium
Nice review, by the way...
Looks like a car you’d be happy in whilst touring about going through the miles or more like KM,s.
It looks nice In black & the red interior is the one for me!
This is a really good looking car

Good review as usual, beautiful car.
Wonderful your video dude!! Greetings from Germany. Only, in my opinion, this Peugeot it's more a competition for BMW Serie 4 Gran Coupe and Audi A5 Sportback than Serie 3 or A4. Personally, I am waiting for the Sport Engineered version that comes next year... And I hope that comes with Autohold and ventilation for seats 🤣
Well, but 4GC/A5 SB are not not new, and I had the new 3er review coming up, so it made more sense to compare it to that.
Just BEAUTIFUL!!!
Fingers crossed a lower spec version sorts the issues.. the cramped cabin would be improved by the lack of sunroof (more headroom) and it wouldnt be quite so expensive!! Beautiful car nonetheless, I hope this one sells well so they carry on making things that aren't a crossover
Sunroof is optional in all models but standard in the flagship model First Edition
🌹PEUGEOT 508 is SOOOO GORGEOUS!!! I ❤ this beauty😘😘😘🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷
Is it longer in length v Citroen C5 Tourer.also is the air conditioning fully loaded.
There’s a small opening hole at the inside top part of the narrow cubby holder to extend the usb cable into the holder which the reviewer missed it.
What’s the manual like? The hybrid has replaced the 2.0 litre diesel auto in my country ( Ireland) and the hybrid is out of my price range on my company car list. I’d have to go for the 1.5 GT Manual diesel if I want the 508 😕
I only think if a new car..this one 508 or mazda 6?
I'm not sure, but did you mention how you think it looks?!
Very nice video
Nice review! Peugeot hasn't been in Canada for decades. Those French really love their cough, unique design language don't they?
Peugeot plans to come back in USA next year so maybe in Canada too...
The car is absolutly beautiful , just seen one in person yesterday. But not sure if I would trade my 2011 Citroen C5 for one because of the elite class leading comfort the C5 offers.
Nice, to be honest, when I saw you in those red seats I thought you were actually sat in the BMW.
Wide centre in the front have you SEEN the new Honda civic???
I have tried new DS7 with the same engine and only issue was the auto gearbox which drops 2 or 3 gears when I tried to accelerate rather than dropping one gear and relying on the torque from 225 HP strong engine. I wonder if you noticed the same issue in 508. Other than that recent Peugeots and Citroen feels more robust and solid cars than previous versions.
Yeah my 508 does that. First time it happened I think I decided on the spot I’d never hammer the throttle again, it was so jarring to go from 6th gear to 3rd for no reason
Nice car!
Is There a Manual Gear Box for the 1.6 Litre Petrol Engine with 225 BHP Model. Also, please hi-light the Air Bags, Sound and Audio System. Many Thanks for the comprehensive technical review.
6MT is available only on the 1.5 130 hp diesel.
I don't know anything about car audio, co I cannot comment.
I really like the design of this car and respect the courage of PSA / Peugeot - they keep on trying the new solutions on the field of designing. What I don't like is the motor. I mean it is too small, too "downsized" if I may say so ... Anyway thanks Mr. Marek !
The engine is OK. Better, than I expected.
@@MarekDrives You mean the acceleration is OK? I ask as you sounded not convinced enough in the test. But maybe I missunderstood You. I am used to 2.0 diesel motors of min. 160-180 HP so I think this motor could be too weak for me. Anyway there's only 1 way to check it: test drive which I'm gonna take. Soon I hope ... Thanks for nice conversation ! Regards from Wroclaw !
I guess it's a matter of expectations. I set the bar for this car very low, and was pleasantly surprised.
No, it's not a speed demon, but for a 1.6 it's pretty good.
@@MarekDrives I see. Thanks for clear answers. Regards 😉
They should keep 72l fuel tank. Otherwise car is just perfect!!
I love the agressivo look of this feline
I would keep the 508 instead
a MB A class or bmw
That’s a car that can seek attention
"hold onto your knickers!"
Cant wait to review one in indonesia
Nice design, but what about the 1.6 THP engine, same issues??
I think they fixed it. Their problem is the 1.2 now :)
Just received my new 508 GT. It is a great car to drive. Very comfortable seats. What really impressed me was the size of the boot although I also experienced the "dirty overcoat" syndrome after stretching into the boot. Driving Abou 1500 km for Christmas, my car used about 5.5 l/100km at swedish motorway speed which is mostly 110 and sometimes 120, using the cruise control. I have never come even close to that in any petrol car. But I do agree with you on the cruise control, still need to understand how it really works. I was expecting some quirky features from a french car, the one I love the most on this car is the tachometer which goes from right to left (counter clock-wise). Only the French could come up with something like that, they really should give up drinking red wine at lunch. Vive la France! :-)
Yeaah! The boot is really great. Everybody says that 508 SW has only 530l, but they are real! I was comparing it with Passat and Golf Variant and they are much smaller. Golf has 605 liters on paper, but 430 liters in reality. Testers should take a meter from time to time and stop reading marketing papers.
Sven Olof Andersson Do you have a petrol or diesel GT version? 5,5 l/100km is great number.
Jan Mokrý It’s a petrol. I agree, it’s amazing.
@@svenolofandersson2572 How can you do it? :-) Everybody else, including me, had 7-9 liters with this 225hp petrol engine. So I choose the Diesel version with only 177hp...
@@johnwet6969 First of all, I think it is a well designed engine, only 1.6 litres with turbo. Secondly, when I did my test drive, it was winter and relatively cold and combustion engines' are a little bit more efficient when the air is cool. Also, the A/C doesn't work so hard in the winter. Maybe that also contributed? I have done another test, driving on country roads around where I live. It's very flat and I started with a warmed-up engine. Then, I drove for about 30 km, no hills, and I concentrated really hard on a gentle driving style. There I managed to go just below 5 l/100 km. In day-to-day driving, short distances, some city driving, I guess I average about 6-6.5 l, if I push it a bit and do a bit more active driving, even more. Honestly, I think the quality of the petrol plays a big role. I also have a diesel Range Rover Evoque (with a Peugeot engine!), and when I have driven it in Switzerland and Germany, I typically averaged around 5 l. In Sweden however, they mix so much shit into diesel that it consumes 6.5 l most of the time now. You should know that I am a pretty old guy, I like to cruise slow and easy! :-) But in any case, I am really impressed with the Peugeot.
Well, used market (but hardly used) this 225hp GT model is around 30.000 euros in Sweden while BMW 3 series is at least 40.000 euros for 320 and around 43.000 euros for 330. I'd say a one year old used is suddenly quite affordable compared to BMW, even if BMW is my favorite brand since forever.
TOP Peugeot 👍👍👍🇸🇰
I had many different cars. Mercedes, BMW( 7), Citroen(XM), etc. The Peugeot 508 is so far the best.
Hi Jacob, how long have you got the car? I'm interested in buying this vehicle but I'm afraid of problems of reliability.....
@@errh007 then don't buy french.
Is that 508 or 50-sexy? because I can't tell the difference
Again: Very nice video, Marek ;-)
In your verdict you should keep in mind that probably nobody will buy a 508 for rational reasons. You will buy it because you love the interior and the cars general look. So you will make do with these "not perfect"-aspects. (Did I mention how beautiful this car is, by the way?). You will buy a Peugeot 508 because you DON'T WANT an Audi A4, a BMW 3xx or a Mercedes C-Class or even E-Class. You will buy a 508 because it's different. And if you love it's look, you will accept the mediocre reverse camera and the "one-touch-too-much" air condition control. It's not decisive.
By the way: Are you sure, there is no auto hold function? It does have an automatic parking break. So I would suppose, auto hold has to be configured in the infotainment system to work.
Good point. I have a C5 Aircross parked in my driveway today, so I went to check. Nothing that would suggest Auto Hold brake.
That's exactly how I feel. It's like marrying the girl you love instead of a perfect beauty that checks all the boxes but somehow does not appeal to you.
I actually had a lot of respect for the Peugeot 508, but that small steering wheel is very annoying and just doesn't pair well with the interior and size of the car. Not as expensive as VW group cars, but certainly problematic in the winter.
Keep up the great work Marek!
Böyle bir arabaya sahip olduğum için Allah'a şükür. Teşekkürler. 🍀
I think the estate version will be even better!
Peugeot's diesel engine is the best of the world ^·^
Nope
@@tengilaurel3777 very strong argumentation, I'm completely convinced, the use of your fact are impressive, nice criticism
But to be serious, Peugeot made the first real diesel engine, BMW and Toyota use the Peugeot diesel engine, and they were the first team to win the 24h of le mans with an engine diesel, so...
@@benjamincharlin6770 le French invented the ICE. Shit's in their blood.
@@kresimircosic9035 no, ICE is German, but the french did invent the TGV (who is currently the faster train ever made), the biggest difference is the speed (duh) and the TGV can actually stay on the railroad, but the french did actually invent the sadism (marquis de sade) so yes, fair point
@@benjamincharlin6770 google internal combustion engine and read upon its history, same story with von Braun not making thr rocket at all, copy of 20 year old Goddard design which was actually the first liquid fueled rocket which Braun copied over. Inspiration got of course from the Chinese
It took me 5 minutes as a newcomer to get along with Peugeot's cruise control.
And in meanwhile five years I didn't even once confuse it with the lever for the indicator.
Cars of the size of a BMW 3 series or Peugeot 508 are too big and heavy in general. A Peugeot 308 SW offers more than enough room for 95 % of the customers.
Most of the time a Peugeot 208 would be enough.
nice
I've always been a fan of Peugeot's 405s&406s. I had 405 1.6GR 93K & 405 1.9TD GLX 95N. 406 2.1TDs&2.0HDIs 110Bhp. Sadly a 508 2.0HDI GT line is too expensive.
PSCavalier 95 The 405 and 406 were beautiful cars. The 508 is a good successor
I’m in the states I want this car
Come to the States, already!
At First, your Handyproblem is not existent. You can put your USB Cable in, and lay it up to a small hole in this Spot next to the Gearbox. So you have a choice.
Overall, your Review is very good.

Great review, and great car even by your high standard scrutiny. The 508 has its quirks but she and the latest Peugeot cars are recommendable again, can't wait for the new 208.
But still, Peugeot aimed too high to compare it to the Audi A5. A comparison between the VW Arteon is more on spot.
Arteon is noticeably larger, and almost as expensive, as the Audi.
Measurements are almost exactly same as A5 Sportback - length, width, height, wheelbase, trunk size etc... they literally tried to copy it!
Get the sub 40k 1.6 180HP. Much better value IMO.
I would always go for a Peugeot Diesel.
i hope they make electric version of this just like the e208
Hybrid 4X2 and 4X4 !
50k is a little steep. But I like it.
The 508 is a beautiful vehicle in looks & style, possession of the 225bhp 1.6 petrol GT. The only issues I have is the paint is a joke as Peugeot only put two costs of paint on UK models, which is disgusting, I've incurred paint defects on my vehicle & damages that the dealer lied to me by not being honest over the true condition of the vehicle I've purchased. As they've failed to tell me about the 1688 to 4K damages to the paint on my vehicle. I'm so disappointed after waiting nearly eight months to find the First Edition flagship model to be treated badly by Truscotts Exeter.. I'll gladly send you proof of all the damages if you contact me.
I recently bought my 508 from a first buyer who had also bought it from Trescott Exeter (191/200 First Edition) model. I love the car but can already see flaking clear coat and other paint defects. For a 4 year old car to suffer from this is outrageous. The car is out of warranty but was thinking whether I could complain to Peugeot directly.
Can t wait to see the new Peugeot Insignia ;)
Peugeot 508 is one of the most beautiful sedans.I have driven one 6months ago and everything was gorgeous about it.I can't understand why you find it not perfect
I'm not saying it's ugly. It is beautiful, but otherwise badly designed.

50K? I thought it should be around 37 for the pre-high trim and around 42-43 for GT line.
This is the full GT with 225 hp + bells and whistles.
Don't worry. Buy a used one that is a year old and it will be that price or lower. Depreciation on these things is not good... or is good if you're buying 2nd hand! :-)

What about it?
Top up Peugeot 508 GT line goooood
The difference between the new peugeot and the new bmw is that it does not break immediately after the warranty expires
So we gonna ignore that it looks like the accord coupe?
AFAIR Honda pulled Accord from Europe long time ago, and we never got the coupe version on this side of the pond.
The good news is that Peugeot's value drops fast ... so, after two years and under 100 k km ... this posh toy can be bought with aprox. 20 k euros. 😉
I think you either love it (and are ready to spend about this amount of money) or hate it. The dashboard and driving position is so particular, it won’t be attractive to everyone for sure.
Cadillac or Chevy Impala 😀. Why doesn’t America get any cool cars? Also, I want those shoes!
yeah, Marek's shoes are making me jealous after each video, as well as this orange suitcase :-)
🚘USA product The beautiful FORD MUSTANG, DODGE. They are very cool cars👍👍👍
That €3000 difference between similarly specced BMW will be gone at resale time. Business lease also looks at depreciation so this car makes little sense (though maybe at lower specs you'll have a car with fancy-ish design for a decent amount).
I've tried the 508, I didn't have adaptive suspension.. and I was dissapointed with the ride. Very avarage overall, no sporty ride. Its not good, because it looks like a sports car but then the ride is so boring.
Still it does the Elk test in 81km/h. That is supercar territory in terms of handling - beats BMW hands down.
I would have called it the 'Peugeot Sabre'.
You're welcome, Peugeot, if it's not too late to change it ;D
