    The 2019 Peugeot 508 is an interesting car. It better be for the price PSA is asking for the car. The new Peugeot 508 is more compact than the model it replaces, which Peugeot says should make it more appealing to drive also in the city. This 508 GT model is powered by a 1.6 litre turbocharged petrol engine, which produces 225 hp. Peugeot compares the 508 to Audi A5 Sportback. But is it good enough to take on BMW 3 Series?
    Starting price: 31 500 euro

    Let me say, because I'm driving PSA-cars since 1999,except of a Golf 5, they were always different but you get used to. And maybe the customers want that difference, not to have this boring feeling driving an Audi or BMW interiorwise. Personally I don't like bigger cars so I wait to see the 208. Thx for showing us this stunning car.👌

    Really love this car! Have driven the 2l diesel version and wow, just wow! I’m not that tall, and nor is my family, so this size of car is perfect for us! The 3-series have space we don’t need (and weight). Good that there is something for everyone so we are not all driving around in the same cars. :)
    PS. The cruise control is much better than those with buttons on the steering wheel, much easier to use when you get used to those.

    Definitely one of the best looking cars released last year. I still don't get it why cars are so expensive in Poland. In Slovenia a 100% fully spec'd 508 costs 43.000€. I configured it in their configurator and selected every single option.

    If this car was available in America I would buy it over all of the German vehicles because it's different and beautiful. The exterior design is striking and interior screams hightech/futuristic. I could careless about all of your criticisms except for the expensive price. It's not a cheap vehicle, but I got the idea that while you were driving it, it felt premium. So for me if the car delivers on its premium value feel, has great looks which doesn't resemble anything on the road, and a "Tron-like" interior please take my money. I don't like following the crowd and the only other car I desire as much as this is the Volvo S60R. Otherwise great review, can't wait to put this in my driveway!

    Just received my new 508 GT. It is a great car to drive. Very comfortable seats. What really impressed me was the size of the boot although I also experienced the "dirty overcoat" syndrome after stretching into the boot. Driving Abou 1500 km for Christmas, my car used about 5.5 l/100km at swedish motorway speed which is mostly 110 and sometimes 120, using the cruise control. I have never come even close to that in any petrol car. But I do agree with you on the cruise control, still need to understand how it really works. I was expecting some quirky features from a french car, the one I love the most on this car is the tachometer which goes from right to left (counter clock-wise). Only the French could come up with something like that, they really should give up drinking red wine at lunch. Vive la France! :-)

    • @johnwet6969
      @johnwet6969 Před 4 lety +1

      Yeaah! The boot is really great. Everybody says that 508 SW has only 530l, but they are real! I was comparing it with Passat and Golf Variant and they are much smaller. Golf has 605 liters on paper, but 430 liters in reality. Testers should take a meter from time to time and stop reading marketing papers.

    • @svenolofandersson2572
      @svenolofandersson2572 Před 4 lety +1

      @@johnwet6969 First of all, I think it is a well designed engine, only 1.6 litres with turbo. Secondly, when I did my test drive, it was winter and relatively cold and combustion engines' are a little bit more efficient when the air is cool. Also, the A/C doesn't work so hard in the winter. Maybe that also contributed? I have done another test, driving on country roads around where I live. It's very flat and I started with a warmed-up engine. Then, I drove for about 30 km, no hills, and I concentrated really hard on a gentle driving style. There I managed to go just below 5 l/100 km. In day-to-day driving, short distances, some city driving, I guess I average about 6-6.5 l, if I push it a bit and do a bit more active driving, even more. Honestly, I think the quality of the petrol plays a big role. I also have a diesel Range Rover Evoque (with a Peugeot engine!), and when I have driven it in Switzerland and Germany, I typically averaged around 5 l. In Sweden however, they mix so much shit into diesel that it consumes 6.5 l most of the time now. You should know that I am a pretty old guy, I like to cruise slow and easy! :-) But in any case, I am really impressed with the Peugeot.

  • @HS1891
    @HS1891 Před 4 lety +1

    Well, used market (but hardly used) this 225hp GT model is around 30.000 euros in Sweden while BMW 3 series is at least 40.000 euros for 320 and around 43.000 euros for 330. I'd say a one year old used is suddenly quite affordable compared to BMW, even if BMW is my favorite brand since forever.

    Again: Very nice video, Marek ;-)
    In your verdict you should keep in mind that probably nobody will buy a 508 for rational reasons. You will buy it because you love the interior and the cars general look. So you will make do with these "not perfect"-aspects. (Did I mention how beautiful this car is, by the way?). You will buy a Peugeot 508 because you DON'T WANT an Audi A4, a BMW 3xx or a Mercedes C-Class or even E-Class. You will buy a 508 because it's different. And if you love it's look, you will accept the mediocre reverse camera and the "one-touch-too-much" air condition control. It's not decisive.
    By the way: Are you sure, there is no auto hold function? It does have an automatic parking break. So I would suppose, auto hold has to be configured in the infotainment system to work.

    It took me 5 minutes as a newcomer to get along with Peugeot's cruise control.
    And in meanwhile five years I didn't even once confuse it with the lever for the indicator.
    Cars of the size of a BMW 3 series or Peugeot 508 are too big and heavy in general. A Peugeot 308 SW offers more than enough room for 95 % of the customers.
    Most of the time a Peugeot 208 would be enough.

    The 508 is a beautiful vehicle in looks & style, possession of the 225bhp 1.6 petrol GT. The only issues I have is the paint is a joke as Peugeot only put two costs of paint on UK models, which is disgusting, I've incurred paint defects on my vehicle & damages that the dealer lied to me by not being honest over the true condition of the vehicle I've purchased. As they've failed to tell me about the 1688 to 4K damages to the paint on my vehicle. I'm so disappointed after waiting nearly eight months to find the First Edition flagship model to be treated badly by Truscotts Exeter.. I'll gladly send you proof of all the damages if you contact me.

      I recently bought my 508 from a first buyer who had also bought it from Trescott Exeter (191/200 First Edition) model. I love the car but can already see flaking clear coat and other paint defects. For a 4 year old car to suffer from this is outrageous. The car is out of warranty but was thinking whether I could complain to Peugeot directly.
