yes we have "fish and chips" just like england .. so when maccas appeared we wondered why chips were called french fries .. most people today will say fries if they are thin like maccas fries but chips if they are fatter .. they are usually MUCH fatter, people chop up spuds in most places to make variously spiced chips even in the fanciest restaurants :)

French fries 🍟 were invented in Belgium. French people call them frite. In Australia, KFC tell you that they don't sell "fries" they sell "chips".
So in Australia we make distinctions between fries and chips.
However the Brits have a distinction between chips and crisps.
To us they're different but we call them both chips.
Our oldest chip company Smiths calls them crisps though, "Smiths Crisps".
Who on Earth has "fish and french fries"?

It looks like the middle judge is wearing an old Skyhooks costume.
Also, we call them chips down under, McDonalds call them french fries, and Hungry Jacks changed to calling them chips several years ago.

Yeah Skyhook were/are such an iconic Aussie band. My favourite as a young kid. The girls liked Sherbet and the boys liked Skyhooks. Then along came Acca Dacca. Love them of course, but The Angels were the big one with me because they played live everywhere all the time and never failed to whip the crowd into a frenzy. RIP Doc, you were the greatest.
I come from a generation earlier so I remember bands like the Easybeats, Billy Thorpe and the aztecs, Normie Rowe all great Australian icons, lucky enough to see them all live.
@@amadd5641 It was funny there was a sort of rivalry between Sherbet fans and Skyhooks fans for some reason. I never quite understood that. I'm not sure about the girls not going for Skyhooks though, lol... I loved them and so did a lot of other girls. Angels were awesome too - I remember seeing them live a few times and they sure got the crowd going.
@@suesmith7946 Yeah I like your reply. I suppose Sherbet were a little bit lovie dovie whereas Skyhooks were a bit out there. Took me some many later years to understand what their song Smut was all about lol.

Redmond was a guitarist in a 70s band called Skyhooks. They had a few hits. Check them out starting with playing, Jukebox in Siberia.
That was their last hit.
Listen to their debut album Living in the 70s to hear their first hits.

When I grew up in the 60's/70's/80's, the main source of chips was from a fish and chip/burger shop. Still to this today the best burgers are fish and chip shop burgers.

Hey Hey - it's already Christmas Day downunder. Merry Arvo mate!
youd never know it but in real life .. Firstly, Red was the guitarist in Skyhooks, a pretty big 1970s band .. big in Oz anyways lol (look for "Horror Movie - Skyhooks" on youtube and youll get the idea of what kinda rock hero Red was) and Secondly .. unlike how he is on this show, out in the real world .. Red never smiles, eats in restaurants alone, isnt funny and nobody seems to get along with him :) On this show he became something else lol

I forgot all about junior burgers, ha -- from memory, they were just basically a cheeseburger without cheese. And both 'fries' and 'chips' are used in Australia, though 'fries' is more common now than it was back then.

Merry Christmas to you and your family. In Australia we have Govt sponsored TV and Radio Network where you can watch and listen to shows/ podcasts and movies via the internet. One of my favourite shows that exaggerates a typical Aussie Christmas ca be found by googling " IView" to find" the Moody Christmas " series of short programs. They are hilarious and give you a real feel for the Australian sense of humour.
