PlayStation names Hermen Hulst and Hideaki Nishino as its new CEOs
Hulst is CEO of the newly named Studio Business Group, which includes all of PlayStation’s first-party teams, plus covers the development of PlayStation IP onto other mediums, such as TV and film
Hideaki Nishino will lead the Platform Business Group, which includes console hardware, technology, accessories, PlayStation Network and third-party relations (covering major publishers and indie studios) - Hry
I am glad Hulst is in charge of the games.

@@losthedon22 it's more complicated because Sony wanted them to focus on one game per studio, as a mandate. So between a new killzone or go all in on horizon. They chose horizon and left killzone in the past.
Now that he's in charge, he can set up a new killzone studio or let Guerrilla do whatever they want.

Jim Ryan announced his retirement months ago and PS has been in a transitionary period ever since.
Though it was probably a good idea to announce this new leadership after the recent issues the brand has been having. Need to show some stability.
However, I am 100% sure these two were already chosen before all the recent issues. Sony wasn't going to rush the selection of the people who will be running their flagship division, the crown jewel of their company.
✋Im one of the many that rejoiced when hearing the Jim Ryan news. Hopefully the new CEO's will be a good fit. Having a Japanese CEO is also hopefully moving Sony Playstation back on track.

I think it will be more interesting to know what Hideaki Nishino will do, Playstation needs more from Japan and less from the West, they have been betting on extremely boring content for a long time, they only have 1 or 2 interesting exclusives, which is unfortunate, in addition to what has happened with Helldivers and Stellar Blade, I think it would be better if Playstation's Japan division had more influence on the console's overall content.
Sony needs a bucket of cold water to stop feeling comfortable and start generating quality content again, and even more now that Microsoft doesn't know what to do with Xbox and have been making totally irrational decisions, such as the recent closure of some studios that generated Really unique IPs, total madness.
Ditto. Western Sony bores me to tears. I don't care how good the games look, it's the same types of games we got in the PS3 gen. I want Japan Sony to have more influence. Expand Team Asobi, have 2 studios under them making smaller games to test IPs.

Game developers need to figure something out. We used to get multiple games in each franchise per console generation (looking at PS3) including heavy hitters like GTA, Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Uncharted, Infamous, all the Souls games, etc…etc. Now if a game drops and it isn’t a huge success or isn’t super popular, we won’t see another game from that studio until the next generation (or longer). That’s not sustainable for studios, and that’s why we see so many getting closed down. It sucks for gamers as well having to wait 12 years for a new GTA, 14 years for a new mainline Fallout, 15 years for a new Elder Scrolls….and on and on.
They should give that job to you PlayStationGuy! You have what it takes to help Sony!

its an interesting choice and natural step, they are already in those roles effectively under the previous leadership with jim ryan, now without him they are instead of svp of the same divisions, they are now CEO of those divisions, which just gives them more control of what they already were in charge of, i wish them the best, and it is good they already have shown they are effective managers just being in the svp positions for so long before this change, it matters for our gaming hardware and software

I Think having two CEO's is an unexpected but good idea someone who is familiar with playstation who worked an guerrilla and on Horizon a person who understands Video games divining up the work into two gives two heads instead of one.

I still have reservations cuz I wanna see if they’re gonna stick with the PSN requirements on PC or not cuz that move will be somewhat telling of these new CEOs. In unrelated news did ya hear that Xbox announced that they’re dropping their own mobile app store in July to compete with Apple and they’re not the only company who is doing this as Epic Games is gonna be doing something similar but that’s a little more ways away from when the mobile Xbox store drops.
Im glad holst is a ceo. Maybe he can give us killzone remasters/sequels. And bring back to life some ps3 hits like warhawk,resistance, motorstorm,infamous, fightnight etc.

Not gonna get my hopes up for any changes towards censorship in games until they announce a new senran kagura or a game that is similar in an upcoming event. SSDD that’s the kind of vibes I got from that interview statement with the new co-CEO’s but here’s to hoping that not the case.
I’d venture a guess that the budget for spider man 2 was more than the top 5-10 ps2 exclusives combined. Studios seem too preoccupied with making 70 hour open world games instead of focusing on 15 hours of FUN. Give me however many 15-20 hour games $300M would buy, please. Open world games are getting SO old and their budgets are ginormous.
5 to 10? More like 30-60. SM2 costs 300 million. They produced PS2 games for 5-10 million back then.
Sounds like Sony put some thought into this. Only time will tell if it will end up just like Jim Ryan's work.
Hermen Hulst could definitely bring new changes into the PlayStation brand, probably to focus on co development between PC and PlayStation and probably and likely bringing the older PlayStation games back into the modern day and with PC included..
But as everything else, they have to prove themselves to be effective instead of cheering on too early..
In other words, don´t celebrate too early.
What probably needs to happen is a new Japanese PlayStation division for Japanese developers to make games for PlayStation--

I think you hit on one of the biggest make or break decisions that Sony has to make. Do they want to push full steam ahead on the hardware side and inevitably end up with just as long, though probably longer development times? Or do they want to stick with the PS5 (and pro) for a good long while to get the most they can out of it while hopefully shortening development windows as teams have more time to create shortcuts, etc. I guess it's obvious what my opinion is on the matter.
Question is.... Double salary or do they both share Jim's salary ?
Hopefully a new killzone will arise, its definetly one of Sony's severely underrated games. . They need to get the game running like a cod game, I found the last entries to be sluggish . If they could do that just imagine what could be done with the awesome universe.
I canceled my psn after 10 years and will not be signing back up. I’ll stick to my pc now. Selling you a game and then week later censoring it after they get your money is beyond anti consumer. Then they censored a booklet on their own game but uncensored on Nintendo. Then the helldivers 2 debacle. There are some really stupid decisions being madr.

I'm sure Cerny will be kept. PS4 was a major hit (which people seem to forget has sold like 115 million units) and PS5 is doing pretty well even with the supply shortages at the start of the generation. Devs seems to be happy with both machines, unlike the issues with previous PS consoles.

It is an interesting strategy to have two co-heads. I just hope they can stay in-tune with one another.
I think Herman Hulst knows what he's doing and I'm confident he could do a good job. People probably don't remember, but Horizon was a risky move. Guerilla was known as the Killzone studio back before Horizon. They made gritty sci-fi fps games and didn't even have any on-staff writers. Horizon was a new IP (a rarity in AAA games nowadays) and a complete departure from what Guerilla was used to making. The risk paid off and HZD sold 15 million copies.
I don't know anything about the other guy, but here's hoping he knows what he's doing.
But I do find it interesting that they have a westerner and a Japanese person heading up Playstation. They should bring different points of view, and it might eliminate any cultural bias one way or another.

What i don’t get is if PlayStation are gonna remaster games why don’t they concentrate on PS3 since you can only stream them on PS+. It would increase the catalogue for PS5 with games people are interested in buying. Id love Killzone to be remastered.

As long as the games are great & we get back on track with some diversity in games so we dont just get the same 2 genres being rinsed & repeated with different settings would be fantastic & a huge upgrade over Jim Ryan
Give me Killzone, SOCOM, Sly Cooper collection, OG God of War Collection, ATV Off-road Fury, LittleBigPlanet & Twisted Metal
Make more games similar to Concrete Genie (one of my favorite PS4 game) & Tearaway (a very underrated game).. not everyone wants a 15+ hour open world story driven game so if they want to sell more units then the PS4 by the end of this generation or even get close to it they need diversity big time
It blows my mind that a brand new or even a remaster/collection of Twisted Metal wasn't put out for the release of the show just look at what the Fallout show has done for 4 & 76 for crying out loud big missed opportunity
