- In this video I show you how to disassemble the dryer, locate the issue I had, and how I fixed it all without spending a dime. The dryer wasn’t squeaking terribly loud and we had almost decided to call the repair man when I decided to take it apart and see if I could fix it.I will show you exactly how I did it and what the issue was in this video.I assume others have this issue as well so I decided to make a DIY video about fixing the Maytag centennial dryer so it will hopefully save some of you the money it saved me.Please consider subscribing if you like the content and check out my other videos! Thanks for watching!

Thank you for your video from a housewife that was going crazy with the dryer squeak. I had asked my husband to look at it but with work and the holidays coming, he just didn't have time. I decided to attempt the fix myself. With the step-by-step instructions, I was able to take the dryer apart, clean everything (which I think was half the problem), grease all the moving parts and put the dryer back together. Guess what?? It works so much better than before. One thing to note, I had originally looked at another video for a Maytag but wasn't the same brand and that video had me taking the back off so it's important to find a video that has your same brand, make and model. However, I'm not disappointed that I got the wrong video because I was able to completely clean all the parts in the back of the dryer as well as under the dryer. I'm so happy with the finished results!!! Keep the handyman fixes coming.
Dude, you’re my hero. Our dryer was squeaking so obnoxiously it was unbearable. I watched your video a couple of times and went in. I found the wheel in the back left side had no Teflon washers on the back. Fortunately there were two on the right. I took one off the right and swapped it to the left, lubed them both up and bingo! FIXED!! Thank you SO much for the information. I actually can’t believe I was able to disassemble it AND get it back together. I’m amazing!!!!!
Thank you for the video. I came home to the wife telling me the dryer is making a noise. She already had a new dryer picked out at Lowes for $600. After watching your video, I had it fixed in less than an hour with no money spent. I Appreciate your help.
Glad I can help, now you can spend $500 on something else 😂👍🏻
Was she mad that you fixed it? My wife was. 😁
Hahaha not so much, great stuff though
Thank you Sir.
Saved me from dragging it out in the middle of laundry room to find out cabinet was sealed in back - need to fix from the front! Thank you!
Thank you. We just followed this video & now my dryer is fixed!! Money saved and extremely happy
Thanks so much for the video! Was ready to buy new dryer, took my Maytag apart and just as you described...... Took care of the problem! Thank you!!!
Your welcome, glad I can help!!
Thank you so much! Never thought I could fix a dryer on my own but this video was spot on and extremely helpful!
Glad it helped!
Thank you for the help! Indeed our squeak was one of the barrel support wheels, I applied some lithium automotive grease and the problem was fixed. Hardest part was releasing and reinstalling the clip on the wheel (had to improvise with a couple of mini flat head screw drivers).
Thank you so much! You saved me a couple of hundred... my tension wheel had come out of place and I just needed to pop it back in and reposition the belt and we are back in business!!! Thanks soooo much !!
Glad to help!!
Thank you. Out of the half dozen I watched yours was easily the best
I have the same dryer but mine makes a thump on every 360 deg. turn, pretty sure it's one of the two drum rollers that has worn out and ordered them both. This video provided great info, thanks!
1,000 thanks from this wife. My hubs just had rotator cuff repair & is not able to repair dryer. So I found your video & viola, I fixed it!
So glad I could help
Thanks for posting this. My Maytag was a little different but still the same problem.
You fixed yours in 30 minutes. I fixed mine in 2 hours because my wife helped. Had to clean everything.
Lol
That’s Funny!! Always fun to have the wife help though!
😂
Thank you for making this video! Perfectly resolved my issue, and without any additional costs!
Your welcome
wow I came for the fishing and stayed to learn how to fix the squeaky dryer. Your not just a fishing magician but a dryer magician too!😀
Thanks 👍
For me, it has always been the drum rollers. I drilled holes in the side and put in electrical box plugs and painted them white so that when they needed to be lubricated I could do it without taking the dryer apart. I did the same for the side by the idler and motor and in the front to be able to sight the burner. I got the idea from another model they sell that comes with holes and plugs like that.
What do you use for lubricant?
In that video I used air tool lube, it started back after a year or so and I used lithium grease spray in a can from lowes. It’s a little thicker and may last longer. Will do my best to let everyone know after a year or so if it’s working.
Great idea!
Just like the many times I used utube videos to fix things your video was helpful my dryer required to take mostly apart but if you lay it down on it's back reach all the way back with a oil can and get two wheels the 3rd wheel impossible so I drilled a very small hole in the side flipped it over on its opposite side and had a easy oil job for that wheel and I only had to take off the front cover 👌
Your The MAN!!! My hero. Thank you so much.. 💓 my hubby and I just fixed our dryer with your video... and our first project together and we didn't fight!!! Yippe
That’s awesome, glad I could help!
I put a question up@@atlanticcoastfishing9235
You just saved me an appliance repair call. Exact same issue, same solution. Cheers!
Happy I could help!
Thank you this helped with our dryer. I appreciate your time and the video. 😊
I’m happy that it was able to help you out👍🏻
Thank you so much . I just watched it and am sure thats what is wrong with mine . Going to repair mine now . 2 / 15 /23
You saved me $$. Thanks for your time to put this video together.
No problem, glad it helped
Worked like a charm!! I was afraid I was gonna have to replace the felt seal which is a real pain in the neck. Fortunately a little bit o'lube in the right places works wonders 🤣
Being an older guy the high pitched squeal didn't bother me so much....it was the rest of my family who were complaining! 😛
Great worked like a champ. Had a different dryer but they’re all about the same. Thanks for the tips!!
Glad it helped!
Thank you sir, very simple and informative repair video, it helped me repair my dryer! 🙏🏼🙏🏼
You're welcome!
Thanks for the video, perfect diagnosis for the squeaking noise. Definitely saved us some money as we fixed it for zero $ as well!
Glad I can help, it’s nice that we can all work together through CZcams!
That was exactly what was wrong with mine. Hour tops to take completely apart, lube and put back together. Thank you my friend. Cost me nothing.
My pleasure, glad it helped!
Thanks for the video, helped me out and I was easily able to fix the squeaky wheel !!!Thank you Sir!!
Your welcome, glad it helped
Zero dollars spent is the way to go 👍, thank you very much for the video!!!
Your welcome,glad it helped
great job thanks will be checking my pulley this weekend
Thank you for this video, i was able to fix this squeaky noise in my Maytag dryer!
Thank you so much for this video. I was able to fix it that terrible squeak. no parts ordered, no handyman, no husband's assistance even. (:
Great job!
you saved me a lot of grief. thank you.
Thanks, this helped me fix my dryer with the same issue
Thanks! Worked perfect except my squeal was one of the drum wheels. I had trouble getting the front panel off until I realized it had to be lifted straight up!
This helped. Thanks. Only I still didn’t know how to get the front panel off. It pops off clips pulling straight up from the bottom.
Thank you So much your video came in very handy. No more squeaks!
Your welcome, glad it helped
Great video. Wrapping that belt around the drum was a challenge but other than that I took your direction and presto. No more squeaking.
Glad it helped!
Gonna try this on Saturday, I have a Maytag Performa, same damn sound! Much appreciated!
Great job my bro!!!! Thank you! You saved my family some coins!!!
Glad I could help

@atlanticcoastfishing9235 I liked and subscribed too as I am a inland fisherman myself! Thank you again! 🙏
Just wanted to say thank you as it was one of my bearings along the back wall but like you did I cleaned it and it works perfectly!!! 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
Glad it helped
I've just fixed mine.thanks so much!!!!
Glad I could help!
Thank you for the video....I will try this today.
Don't stretch spring unless necessary, belt and spring tension are designed to lightly wrap around the drum where the clothes will tumble falling from the top of the drum during operation in to heat. If the belt is to tight due to stretching the spring or tightening of belt the faster spinning of the tub will cause the clothes to ride the inside of the tub during rotation and the centrifugal force will hold the clothes to drum wall taking a long drying cycle.
False. Tightening the belt tension spring does not cause anything to move faster. The motor spins at a set speed, tightening the belt won't magically cause the motor to turn any faster. The only harm that could possibly come from tightening belt tension would be premature belt wear, but you would really have to crank on that spring to cause any ill effect. Use your brain before making uninformed comments that are stated in a derogatory fashion to try to make yourself sound smarter than someone else. This guy posts a video trying to help people out, and here you come with your dumb bullshit.
Thanks so much! Great helpful video!
No problem
thank you, you just save me at least $500 I was about to buy a new dryer
Great, glad I can help!
Thanks buddy you saved me some money.
Thanks. Ours was making the noise a lot. Opened it up. Was afraid to remove the drum, so I lubricated any pulley or wheel I could get to, missing only the one on the left. When I restarted it, it made noise but not as much. After about 10 minutes running, it almost stopped completely. Whenever it gets worse, I may do again and remove the drum too.
It más have a little birdie in there. Very informative, thank you 🙏
You’re welcome 😊
Same dryer same problem. Thanks for the video
What lube did you use?
Wd40? Or any other?
I used the thickets oil I had on hand, it doesn’t seem to matter what you use you’ll have to do it once every year or so, but it will work.
Very good especially recording the squeaking sound before the fix so we may compare our noise to yours. Thank you.
Just wanted too say tHanku.. Came across this AS our Maytag Dryer started making "THE NOISE" 😂 Replaced nothing! but maybe soon.. a Lil Lube.. all quiet 🤫 on the WESTERN FRONT!!
So happy I could help
Oh wow, and to think was about to purchase a new dryer because mine's making this exact noise currently and I can't stand it. I'm sure my neighbors feel the same way, I always close the windows.
Thanks. Found $20 in loonies and toonies plus a bunch of guitar picks.
Such a helpful video.
Thank you for your video. My dryer has the same squeaking noise.
Glad it helped
Helped me out! THANKS
Good fix but the root cause is a cheap design in the pulley tensioner wheel. It is a metal to plastic contact that rotates instead of a more expensive actual bearing. The lubricant helps for a while then the slight wear from use brings it back to squeaking. I never had this problem in an older dryer that lasted decades but had an actual bearing on the tensioner pulley.
This works! Thank you!
Thanks for the video. It's very helpful.
You are welcome!
Thanks a bunch. Great video
My pleasure, glad it helped!

My pleasure
Well thx bro my dryer jusr started that same squeaking and its horrible sound but my.wife has been lokking on marketplace for dryer and then got me lookin but i got to thinking it still runs great and i dont thing it could be that big of a problem decided to take my.chances on yt and foundnthe exact.noise from your how to vid andnima tackle it tomorrow after work thx alot
This sounds like it might be the issue for my dryer and I want to give it a try. I have a gas dryer, though, so after I unplug and turn gas valve off, are there any other parts inside as I remove the drum I might need to be aware of as far as the gas connection lines go? I have never torn a dryer apart before, but the video seems easy enough...just want to be safe about it!
Thank you for downloading this video my dryer Is doing the exact same thing
Glad to help
Great video...I just fixed mine with a little oil. If your ever in Chicago I'll buy you a beer...HA
Sounds good!!👌🏻
Worked like a charm.. cost nothing but a couple sprays of wd-40.
Glad it helped out👍🏻
Thank you for sharing

You bet!
Awesome thank you huge time savings for me. Cheers
Your welcome!

My pleasure
Very helpful much obliged
Glad it helped
Thanks! Just did it on mine and worked well! No parts to buy!
Which type of lubricant is best to use to grease the pulley?
brake caliper grease is heat resistant. worked best for me
Thanj3 you good job bro.
My pleasure, glad it helped
Thanks for the video!!. I replaced the rollers and put it all back together and now i have a slight burn smell..is that normal when replacing with brand new rollers?
I haven’t experienced that myself but I would say it’s definitely possible, has it gone away now?
@@atlanticcoastfishing9235 yes it has gone away...thank you so much for your quick response!
Glad it worked!
Man thank you so much really
No problem
Appreciate the video
Your welcome
Please let me know how to adjust spinning wheel,my dryer make grinding noise
Can you tell me what your asking exactly, I don’t quite understand
Thank you Sir
Thank you!
Your welcome!
That's exactly what my sounds like..thank u
I hope this helps fix it
Shoutout to you !
Thanks!!
What if the dryer is making all that noise and then it hums? I thought maybe it was the belt so I got another belt but if it’s something else, I have no clue.
I really don’t know, it could be some sort of clothes or lint build up but that’s just a guess. If you can provide more clues others may be able to help as well.
Thank you !!!!!
Your very welcome
Thanks so much.
You're welcome!
See, ours is 24 years old... I think its best that we replace our maytag which has done beautifully for us. Getting a more efficient dryer and washer that use less power and water.
Let me know how the new one works out
Thank u so much!!
Your welcome, hope it helped
Mine's making more of a thumping sound and it sounds like it's in the very front on the right hand side. Do you by any chance know what that could be?
This is just a guess but either your belt has slid slightly off track, and it’s making the drum track back and forth a little so to speak when it turns…..or something has made it inside your dryer and it’s moving around with the drum.It could be like a sock, or something similar. These are my best guesses without seeing or hearing the noise.
@@atlanticcoastfishing9235 You know it's funny I watched the video on how to take apart the dryer so I started myself and then I got stuck when I couldn't get the drum out by myself. So as it was being held up by my butt I texted my neighbor and told him to come over. He was the one that was going to be doing this anyway. I couldn't help it I had to get my hand in on it. So when he comes over he looks and he doesn't see anything that's wrong so we put it back together and it didn't make another sound. I have no idea what was going on but I'm so glad that it wasn't anything. Then he points to the 10-year warranty under the logo on my dryer and said you didn't have to worry about it anyway it's under warranty. I hope I did send in that warranty card. Lol
Lol, great story and I like the projects that “ fix themselves”.If I can ever help again just let me know.Have a great weekend!
Thank you for the videos.06-22-23
