Tried all of that. Decided that citrus peels was the best. Cuties, oranges, grapefruit. Right after breakfast works best!
We always use the glisten cleaning packs in ours. We also plug the other side of the sink to keep all of the form in and helps it do a super good job. Disposable usual stays working and smelling good for at least a month or two
I've done things for a stinky drain like putting orange or lemon peels in the disposal and also the baking soda. But now I have to get that disposal cleaner if for nothing else but to watch it send blue foam up both sides. Pretty cool. 😊
Thanks Joel you give the best tips !!! Thanks soooo much!!! 😊
Very helpful! Thank you 👍
Welcome to Joel's chemistry class! I love learning from you!
Something else to clean is your nozzle for sprayer. I was shocked when I turned ours over. I used an old toothbrush after inserting nozzle in some vinegar and letting it sit for a while. Love your videos!
Judging by the rag you used to wipe inside your disposal, I have to start cleaning mine more often, lol
I love those glisten packets I use them once a week!
Small chunks of an orange peel, lime peel, or lemon peel with help as well! Gives it a nice fresh citrus smell ;)
Love your bloopers 😂. Thank you for showing us how to keep the garbage disposal smelling clean. Ima try all 3 😉
Best video with thorough and 3 ideas. Thank you.
Great job Joel! Love yur family!!!! 👍💞💖💞👍
Hey Joel, in your other video about remounting the kitchen sink, I noticed the pipe going to the disposal looked back pitched. That could be contributing to the smell. I could be wrong though! Love your videos especially the plumbing ones as I am a plumbers apprentice 😊
The baking soda and vinegar work well but you need to put as much baking soda as possible and just enough vinegar to start the bubbling. After a minute or 2 add some more and repeat until all the baking soda is gone. Follow up with hot water making sure you rinse out the drain from the other side as well
I’ve used the ice method, and the glisten packets as well. My favorite though is using frozen lemons leftover from making lemonade. Love the smell after running the lemon through it. And I’m nervous every time I do it. 😆
that is a great idea.
💪🏼 muscles poppin Joel
You are supposed to use COLD water. The ice is not supposed to melt. If it melts it will not do the job it was made to do when its used to clean the disposal. It isnt a tic toc thing. It is a real handy man trick.
Just a thought you could use a lemon as well
Thanks for sharing this❤❤
My pleasure 😊
Nothing to do with the vid... but dang Joel!! Check out those gains!! Nice work man!
Try baking soda and lemon juice ahhhhh fresh clean then pour hot boiling water dawn liquids sopa to finish
The blue cleaner can be bought at walmart
AWWW what kind of dog do you have? He/she is cute
The Tik Tok and other videos I’ve seen said to use cold water while packing with ice. I still don’t think that solves the smell, but I want to try for the cleaning, just afraid of breaking. 😬
It’s an older disposal.
Didn't you have a dishwasher in your old kitchen? Personally, I cannot live without one.
We did, and the cabinet next to the sink is plumbed and ready for one. I just couldn't give up that storage space on our small kitchen. There will be for sure in the new one.
Nice to see you again Joel! Did your test include smelling the other sink? Did it smell too? Just curious. 🙃
Yes I smelled both, and the strongest oder came from the disposal sink.
I cut citrus and throw down the hole and grind!
I'm guessing you're a huge fan of This Old House on PBS.
I am in an apartment and the maintenance manager swears by the ice cube method and that is what I do. Always use cold water to use your disposal. That is what my instructions are. Maybe because if you run hot water on it it makes the smell worse and melts the ice cubes too quickly. Keep pushing ice cubes in. To be honest, I sometimes do it without water at all because the shards of ice work like sandpaper to get the gunk off. NOISY but it works. I also buy lemons on sale and cut them up and freeze them in a bag and put some of those in with the ice. These apartments are 13 years old and I have yet to have anyone tell me my disposal stinks. Just saying. We all need to do what works for us. Forgot......I use an old toothbrush to scrub that rubber thing that sits in the opening because mine has ridges that catches food.
Even better, mix those lemon peels with a big scoop of kosher salt. Salt should help sanitize the blades and walls of the disposal.
@@vguitarman that IS even better! plus salt will work great with the ice, right?
@@Charis266 not sure it will change the ice much, it makes it colder due to increased surface area (i have no idea if that’s true, but using salt on ice freezes ice cream faster). But I’m sure it will function similar to the lemon peels, in that it will be distributed better inside the disposal instead of just being washed away.
The ice cleans butnalso sharpens the blades and prolongs the disposal life
I think you have to use cold water, instead of hot water with the ice. I saw a video and they used cold water and ice and all that brown dirt came up.
Hello I am coming here from Bonnie’s channel, since she doesn’t have comments I don’t have Instagram to contact her. Just an idea with her issues. Have they checked for Covid antibodies test?
Since I had Covid I have struggled terribly with coming and going insomnia. also the headache lingered for a long time! I just wondered if that could be her issue. She may have had Covid and not known it. Just a thought.
And if that doesn’t work?
Can you help tell or show me how to hang a chair from my Granddaughters ceiling. I don't want to ruin her ceiling but I want to get her the hanging chair hammock I know she will love.
I’d love to see tips for this as well. My husband did a diy closet project and we had a hard time figuring out where our studs were, what weight screws to use, drywall anchors or no, etc.
I use a whole lemon
Before cleaning, run your finger on the inside wall of the disposal and feel the grease, crud, etc. Then place a cup of baking soda and then a half cup of vinegar and let it sit for about five minutes, then flush and then add ice cubes and run. Now, feel the inside, the crease and crud should be gone. That is where your smell is coming from so long as the rest of your plumbing is up to code with a proper trap in the line to keep sewer gases from backing up in the sink.
Gilstin (sp) works too, it contains bleach (small amount) and lemon smell, but after it foams on both sides, let it sit for about five minutes then flush, then add ice. Basically the same results, but the lemon smells good.
You can get large bags of baking soda fairly cheap, so less expensive than the blue bag.
And for a lemon smell....drink some lemon water every day, and throw the sliced lemon into the disposal, let it sit or turn on the, free lemon smell. I love lemon water, so easy for me. Been drinking since I was a kid back in the 50s, and now they say it is healthy for you. Go figure that one out.
Uh oh... Stinky!😅
Did the ice a wrong ..
You’re not supposed to use hot water. The hot water melted the ice before it went down the disposal
What do you recommend if we do not have a garbage disposal and we have a stinky sink
I honestly am not sure, I would probably take the plumbing apart and clean each piece.
@@TodaysTask thanks Joel I will definitely try that
When I had a sticky sink I read to put baking soda, vinegar, let it do what it does then pour a large pot of boiling water. It worked
Disposal or disposer? I call it a disposer!!!
