Nemesis Review, Alton Towers | Best Roller Coaster in the United Kingdom?

- Nemesis at Alton Towers is one of the most famous roller coasters in the world. This Bolliger & Mabillard inverted roller coaster stands just 42 feet tall, but it has a change of elevation of 104 feet since the park had to keep the coaster below the treeline. Does this highly praised coaster live up to its lofty reputation?

Having Alton Towers as my home park, I think I really do take Nemesis for granted, but I'm so glad that I have this at my home park, it's a great ride!
It's awesome.
OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR REVIEWING MY FAVORITE COASTER OF ALL TIME! 🤘
You're welcome!
Really enjoyed the review, thinking about it now, I really take Nemesis for granted. As you say the ride is forceful, has no major dead-spots and a fantastic setting. It is one-of-a-kind. Hopefully it stays on for a few more years because the ride is over 26 years old now.
I don't see Alton Towers ever removing it because you really couldn't fit anything better there. At worst, I think they'd do a Hulk-esque retrack if it came to it.
Stubwood when i first went on age 8 i never knew it was considered that good
@@CanobieCoaster This comment aged like fine wine
@@CanobieCoaster it came to it lol
@@CanobieCoaster that's exactly what they did 💀
just rode the new version for the first time and the theming is truly world class. The smoke and lighting reallly adds to the intensity as well as the additional near misses. I think now this is the worlds best invert.
The visuals looked awesome.
The fact that Nemesis was able to be built with the imposed restrictions is incredible; that it came out as good as it did is doubly so. I've been wanting to try this ride ever since first learning about it in RollerCoaster Tycoon.
It really is an engineering and design marvel!
Got my last few rides on the old track last week. Best part is definitely that insane helix into that insane zero g roll 🙏🏻
I hope that's as intense on the retracked version.
@@CanobieCoaster it will be cool to see how it rode back in 1994 tho 💪🏻
The ride that got me over my fear of coasters!
Nice!
another great, well thought out review from my new favorite coaster channel!!!
Thanks!
This is really high on my international bucket list. This truly does look like a top ten coaster in the world for me.
It's a really unique ride for sure. As is the entire park.
get to it while you can, its 27 years old
I wish more parks provided drone footage. Nice review!
Thanks and I wish more parks did!
Excellent review of a bucket list coaster
Thanks!
Nice review, as always!
Thanks!
Already looking forward to your new review of the retrack!
I plan to go back after all the new Merlin rides open.
Great review!
Thanks!
I too have taken Nemesis for granted over many years. First rode it in opening year 1994 before flying out to Orlando the month after. It was as good theming wise as anything I saw in Florida and was genuinely world class. I kind of forget that because Nemesis has kind of always been there. I've ridden it hundreds of times and just got used to it. But then I ride other things and always seem to come back to it as I've never ridden anything like it. You can get desensitised to it but the first ride every season seems to being it all back. 2022 marks the last year of it having it's iconic roar in echoing throughout it's pit before it gets it's Hulk style retrack. I just hope it never looses that intensity. Never experienced an element that has as sustained intensity as the downwards helix. I loose my vision every time. Back row is the most intense but almost 30 years later I still pull my legs up on front row as if they're going to hit the rocks. Excellent leg choppers
I don't mind if it loses the roar if it stays smooth and lasts for many more years.
Amazing video dude!!! Greetings from South East England!!!
Thanks!
Montu is my favorite invert, but I hope to get on Nemesis one day. I don't care whether or not it ends up being my favorite. I know I will love the unique aspects of it.
And it definitely is unique, that's for sure!
An epic review for an epic looking ride
Thanks!
This is on my bucket list!
And for good reason!
Someday I'll make it across the pond for this one!
This ride and Alton are worth it!
This coaster looks amazing!
It is!
When parks say height restrictions prevent them from installing things they really need to look at what B&M and Alton Towers did
The creativity to build Nemesis is amazing.
Fantastic ride
Absolutely!
What a unique ride!
Agreed!
Considering the fact that it was the second B&M invert ever built, it’s great.
In some ways the old ones are better since they tend to be more forceful.
Canobie Coaster yes I agree, personally this is my favourite coaster in the UK.
It's still the best rollercoaster in the world.
When you take into account everything... layout/environment/theme/firsts/spectator views/elements/relentlessness... It's incredible.
It's an impressive ride.
Hey, Canobie Coaster! This was the first B&M roller coaster outside of the United States!
Yup!
A legend!
Agreed!
Surprising to hear what you say about OzIris.
That ride surprised me too. It seems like anyone who has ridden it lately has raved about it while old reviews were subpar.
Canobie Coaster Yet another reason to get to Parc Asterix, which grows more attractive every year.
If only that blitz wasn't delayed until 2023.
the holy grail nemesis moments is if the operators let it go around twice.
Nice! I love when parks do that.
Love this ride so much 🫶
It's awesome.
I love Nemesis, Alton towers is only 90 minutes from me and it's for sure one of my favourite rides. It is the only B&M invert I've done though (I don't count SLC's lol)
I'm hopeful the refurb preserves it for years to come.
Will you be doing any more reviews to do with alton towers/the UK in general?
I want to get back there first.
Alright!
I’m so lucky to have Alton Towers as my home park
Sure are!
Do you know if the track was like that at opening, or has it just rusted? Either way, it looks fantastic with the setting and theming
The rust-like appearance is intentional and this was painted like that.
Canobie Coaster ok that’s what I figured
@@CoasterHorizons It actually opened with a different paint work design. It was a darker shade of a similar colour to what it is now and had a camouflage like texturing finish as the track is supposed to be the 'tenticles' of the monster reaching out to feed (with the track supports supposed to be the steel that was installed to pin the monster down). It was repainted in 2016 to it's current design and the "rust" is actually painted on. Up close, it's more of an orange colour with a pink hue.
@@mattcole9171 yeah i figured
I wonder if the whip of the og nemesis will be the same or removed with the retracking
I hope not.
Why would it remove the whip? The track parts are exactly the same.
@@bennickss the way the new profiling is
I remember being pretty blown away by Nemesis in the 90s (as opposed to the Big One which was OK but a bit disappointing), and still don't think it's been beaten by Alton Towers or even anywhere else in the UK. It's a bit sad in a way, but hopefully Thorpe's proposed new hyper will deliver.
That new hyper looks short but intense.
@@CanobieCoaster Sounds good to me! Of course, long and intense would be better but I'd rather have an intense short ride than a mediocre long one (as the actress said to the bishop...)
I do think its a bit overated but it is a very good ride! I prefer the smiler at alton towers myself though
Smiler was very good as well, but I definitely preferred Nemesis.
Lots of people say it’s got rougher since 2017 when you rode it. I wouldn’t be able to say about how it’s changed because I’ve only done it in October 2019. When I went on it all 3 times it was quite rough and I didn’t enjoy it. I can see why people would like it but I didn’t really like it. Great video though! 👍🎢
That's not good if Nemesis got rough. The only rough B&M invert I rode was Banshee, but that wasn't headbanging rough. That was a rattly kind of rough.
Canobie Coaster I had a headache after riding. 🤕
I was on it in late 2020 and it was OK then. The Smiler was rougher.
Yeah I rode it again in October this year and it was much better, not rough at all
I rode a week ago and it was glass smooth, so nothing to worry about
Nemesis’ helix is by far the best element of the ride! And is the only ride where a helix is the best element.
It's one of the few! I think the helix is the highlight of rides like Silver Bullet and Legend as well.
Canobie Coaster I’ve ridden Silver Bullet and I’d say that the overbank is the best element.
The overbank gives cool visuals but it's not very forceful.
It’s about to get a re-track
I saw!
You should try nemesis reborn it's even better now!
The aesthetic upgrades are fantastic!
It's a shame the blood water is gone but overall nice review
Thanks! I wish it remained as well.
They had to get rid of it over fears of the wildlife consuming it... It was non toxic food colouring... 🙄 I was lucky enough to ride it as a child with the blood coloured water, standing in the extended queue line hearing it roar past time and time again building the suspense while waiting an hour.
@@SuperBAZZAWAZZA It looked incredible and I'm glad I could see it in videos at least.
i think i might rly like it cuz i love the batman clones more than most
I feel like people would like Batman more if it wasn't a clone.
@@CanobieCoaster agreed i hate that lots of thoosies hate on clones cuz there is lots of them, isnt that a good thing cuz that means there is more of what u like, idk but i dont care i prefer batman to raptor tbh
I prefer Batman to Raptor as well (except the one at Over Texas). I hate bad clones. I don't mind good ones.
@@CanobieCoaster i never judge a ride by if its cloned or not, unless im judging how the ride sold and in that case the clones would win
You should review OzIris
I plan to!
Nemesis is the god of vengeance I think its a great name
Love the name.
been on it lots of times
Lucky!
Didn't Aarow technically make the *first* inverted coaster with The Bat at Kings Island - 1981? 11 years before B&M released an inverted coaster.
Aarow created them for a decade before B&M perfected their idea.
They built the suspended coaster, not inverts. Both below the track though.
What do you think of katun?
I have a video ranking all the inverts, but it's one of my favorite ones. Big elements and very forceful.
@@CanobieCoaster it looks great!
II've ridden five B&M inverts and Nemesis was one of them. It ranked on the low side for me. It was forceful but too short in duration. The best I've ridden is Raptor but Katun which I've not ridden looks like it could be my favourite B&M invert.
Raptor is fun but not one of my top inverts.
Do you think Alton Towers has the best coaster lineup in Europe?
It's one of the best coaster lineups in Europe.
theming good and pleasant
Agreed!
It is Walter bolligers favourite B&M coaster so..
Cool!
The reason the water is now clear is because the dye leaked into the local water supply a few years back, which was an environmental hazard. To prevent it happening again, the dye will never return.
That's a bummer, but understandable.
Seems strange, there much surely be some non-environmentally hazardous dyes they could use.
For some it is overhyped but for others there’s no other invert to compare
I love it.
I felt worse on wicker man to this
I still need to ride that one. It was under construction when I was there.
Great invert, but track could use a paint job
It deliberately is supposed to look rusty.
@@CanobieCoaster Yep, the "rust" is actually paint, as part of the theme. Always makes me laugh when people comment that Nemmy looks rusty.
I'm weird and I prefer inferno over it
I've heard a lot of people say that recently.
Right in the fart box
Sorry?
@@CanobieCoaster have you been on Nemesis?
Nemesis is begging for a paint job because I just don’t like how it looks so rusted.
I think the paint scheme works for the ride.
After thinking about it yah.
not very tall.
Nope
It doesn't need to be.
overrated
I thought it lived up to the hype, but I knew it was short going in.
